Third Sunday after Mass
Dear friends at SS Peter & Paul, Holy Rosary and St Ann, Many lives will be touched by all the supplies you donated to The Crossing. Thank you for you generosity.
The Crossing
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!
As I write this, I am also packed and
preparing to leave with my oldest son, Shamus,
to take him to his orientation at the University
of Minnesota. It is with excitement and a little
bit of anxiety that we take this next step. I can
say this with certainty – Shamus is ready, both
intellectually and emotionally. He’s excited to
be in a big city, to meet new people and to explore
new challenges. Mom and Dad? Maybe not so
much. This orientation is as much for us as it
is for him. We need to be comfortable with his
new surroundings and those who are nurturing
him there. Why? So we can then more easily
let him go, knowing he will be well cared for.
Renee and I may not use the term
“shepherds”, but really that’s what we are looking
for. It is the role that God has asked us to play
within his life these past 18 years and it is now
the role that we ask others – friends, professors,
coaches, staff, future spouse? – at the University
of Minnesota to play. And that’s hard. It feels
out of control. And we both know that at the U of
M, just like in life, there are good shepherds and
there are bad ones.
God warns us about such things in our
first reading from the prophet Jeremiah. “Woe to
the shepherds,” God says, “who mislead and scatter
the flock of my pasture. You have scattered my
sheep and driven them away. You have not
cared for them…” Instead, God then speaks of
His desire to nurture them – letting us know He will
bring His sheep back to their meadow, shepherding
them so that they need no longer fear and tremble.
And furthermore God promises to send us the
one true Shepherd who will care for us all. In the
Gospel, we see what that shepherd looks like. It
looks like Jesus who, upon seeing the vast crowd
that had been following him, allowed his heart to
be moved with pity and began to teach them and
give his very self to them.
We are all shepherds at some level in life.
We can’t get around it. Perhaps it is for our
grandkids. Or for a Girl Scout troop. Perhaps we
teach faith formation or at a local school. Perhaps
we coach a team or manage some employees.
Or maybe it doesn’t look like that. Perhaps
God has given us to shepherd one person in
our life – our spouse, our child, our elderly
neighbor, our parent.
And in each one of these situations, God
asks us to take seriously the vocation and call He
has given us. We must not bring division to them
– emotionally, spiritually or physically. We are
called to move them beyond fear and trembling
and instead, lead them to the place where they
feel most comfortable, the place that feels like
home, the place they meet Him. And we can do
that only by allowing our hearts to focus on the
One who was moved with pity for the crowds,
emulating his openness. We can shepherd only
because God shepherds us.
I’m not sure what the years have in store
for Shamus. But I do know that God is just as
present there as He is here. Our Shepherd,
indeed, wears many faces. May God fill Renee
and I with the confidence that He can and will
continue the work that we began, simply by
using other shepherds in other locations. May
we all trust as much.
Readings for the Week Monday Ex 14:5-18/Mt 12:38-42
Tuesday Ex 14:21—15:1/Mt 12:46-50
Wednesday Ex 16:1-5, 9-15/Jn 20:1-2, 11-18
Thursday Ex 19:1-2, 9-11, 16-20b/Mt 13:10-17
Friday Ex 20:1-17/Mt 13:18-23
Saturday 2 Cor 4:7-15/Mt 20:20-28
Weekend 2Kgs 4:42-44/Eph 4:1-6/Jn 6:1-15
Join us next week as our readings’ focus is: “Through the Eucharist, Jesus nourishes and strengthens us to lead holy lives that are pleasing to God.” One of the primary rea-sons Jesus instituted the Eucharist is to provide our souls the sustenance needed to grow in holiness and come to share eternal life in heaven. Every time we receive the Eucharist, we really and truly receive Jesus. In doing so, we draw closer to him and receive the strength to live as his followers so we may be judged worthy of eternal life.
Staff Retreat
RETREAT: a type of group getaway in which the
members of that group take time to commune with
God in prayer and reflections, form bonds with one
another, contemplate their purpose and motives
and work on one or more specific goals.
All three parish offices will be closed all day
Wednesday, July 22 while the staff is on
retreat. Please keep them in your prayers.
The offices will reopen Thursday morning.
Bulletin Ads
There are a few ad spaces left on the back of our
bulletin. The ad is good for a year of advertising,
and your business will be featured in the Advertiser of
the Week spot during the year.
If you are interested in placing an ad for your
business or would like more information, please
contact your parish office. These ads help us
cover the cost of printing the bulletin.
Cup O’ Joe
Weekly Reflections by Joseph Zenk, Pastoral Leader
"Words From Heaven"
This is the message that has been reported to
come from Mary, the mother of Jesus, out of
Medjugorje in Bosnia. These apparitions are not
officially approved by the Catholic Church, but
the Vatican acknowledges the messages do not
conflict with Catholic teachings. They contain
Motherly advice for all her children. It’s up to us
if we want to listen and apply to life.
July 2nd
, 2015 Message for non-believers
“Dear children, I am calling you to spread the
faith in my Son - your faith. You, my children
illuminated by the Holy Spirit, my apostles,
transmit it to others - to those who do not believe,
who do not know, who do not want to know - but
for that you must pray a lot for the gift of love,
because love is the mark of true faith - and you
will be apostles of my love. Love always, anew,
revives the pain and the joy of the Eucharist, it
revives the pain of the Passion of my Son, by which
He showed you what it means to love immeasurably;
it revives the joy for having left you His body and
blood to feed you with Himself - and in this way, to
be one with you. Looking at you with tenderness, I
feel immeasurable love which strengthens me in
my desire to bring you to a firm faith. Firm faith
will give you joy and happiness on earth and in the
end the encounter with my Son. This is His desire.
Therefore, live Him, live love, live the light that
always illuminates you in the Eucharist. I implore
you to pray a lot for your shepherds, to pray so as
to have all the more love for them because my Son
gave them to you to feed you with His body and to
teach you love. Therefore, also you are to love
them. But, my children, remember, love means to
endure and to give, and never, ever to judge.
Thank you.”
VIRTUS Session
The VIRTUS program assists the church in being a
safe haven for children. All employees of the
Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, as well as any
volunteer, age 18 and over, who have direct
contact with children or youth should attend a
VIRTUS session. We will be hosting a training
session at SS. Peter & Paul on Tuesday, July 20
from 6-9 pm in the rectory.
Go to http://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/, click on
registration on the left side, and begin the
registration process. You must select the
Green Bay (diocese) and continue on with the
registration. If you do not have access to a
computer, please call your parish office to register.

VBS Crafts
Fun activities and crafts are one part of the SS. Peter
& Paul vacation bible school lessons. For one of
the crafts they will be doing, an empty tuna can is
needed. There are only so many times Danielle
can serve tuna to her family, so we are asking for
your help. Make tuna sandwiches for lunch? Have
tuna casserole planned for supper? We’d appreci-
ate your help. Drop clean, empty cans in your par-
ish office by July 21.
Divine Savior School Fulfilling Its Mission
Divine Savior School, as a member of the Green Bay
Diocese, shares in its ministry to Catholic education. All
Catholic schools in the diocese are in partnership with
the faith community. Within that partnership, the
school shares knowledge, gives witness to the Gospel
message, serves others, and prayers and worship. All
members of the school community thank the members
of St. Ann, Holy Rosary, and SS Peter and Paul parishes
for the opportunity to partner with you in providing a
quality Catholic education to the students of the
area. Come and visit! Check out the school website:

It’s Coming!
In just two weeks –August 6 to 9-will be the annual Kiel Picnic. Our parish will again have our pie stand. Because we don’t always have correct phone numbers for families, our callers will NOT be contacting you, but watch for a postcard with details in the mail instead. If for some reason you don’t get a postcard and would like to bring a pie or torte, feel free to bring it to the stand at any time. Anyone can make a pie/torte for our pie stand, not just the ladies from our parish!
We are asking for two pies or a solid torte. Aluminum pie pans are available in the church kitchen (using the ‘throw-away’ pans eliminates lost pans or the need to pick up your pans after the picnic) and look for sign up sheets at the back of church for you to volunteer to help at the stand. Students are invited to volunteer, but they must be in at least 8th grade. If you have any questions, please contact Helen Brost at 693-3366.
Altar Server Training
We will have altar server training for anyone interested in serving for weekend Masses. Children (those who have finished 4th grade), or any adults who wish to serve with their children. It is a great way to serve God and assist Father at Mass. Training will be from 6:00 – 7:00 pm on August 3, August 10, August 17, August 24 and August 31.
In a Spirit of Joy
“In generous spirit pay homage to the Lord, be not sparing of freewill gifts. With each contribution show a cheerful countenance, and pay your tithes in a spirit of joy. Give to the Most High as he has given to you, generously, according to your means. For the Lord is the one who always repays, and he will give back to you sevenfold.” Sirach 35: 7-10
Thank you for your gifts of treasure to SS. Pete & Paul through-out the year, and especially in the month of June. Your response to our budget shortfall at the end of May was amazing and showed we are a strong faith community. We came in at 98.3% of our budgeted stewardship, just shy of $5,000. Thank you again, for your generosity!
Joe McCarey Benefit
A benefit is being planned on Sunday, July 26 for Joe McCarey of MC’s Pub & Grill starting at 10:30 am. The benefit is to help with Joe’s medical expenses after doctors found and are treating 2 brain aneurysms in March.
During the benefit, 4th Street will be closed from Fremont Street to the alley. This may affect traffic behind church that day, so please be patient and plan accordingly.
All are welcome to show your support and stop in for lunch/dinner and enter for a chance to win some of the many raffles prizes. Please keep Joe and his family in your prayers.
