We just have completed our walk with Jesus during the season of Lent and we are now about to enter

into the wonderful Easter Event – Jesus’ Resurrection. Today we are taken to the tomb, where many of

us may struggle with the concept of its emptiness. The women who went to the tomb were planning to

finish the Jewish burial process and when they got there wondered who would role the stone back.

These women were not even aware that Pilate had Roman guards protecting the tomb. The apostles

were not expecting anything out of the ordinary. Jesus had died and along with that, all of their hopes

had also died. As we know they were behind locked doors in the Upper Room.

To their amazement, the women saw the door of the tomb rolled back and wondered what was going on. Their first reaction

was that someone had stolen the body. But an angel told them that Jesus had arisen and they were directed to go to the

disciples and let them know. They did, but the disciples had a hard time accepting this information from women. Peter and

John ran to the tomb. John arrived first and peered in; he believed. Peter came second and saw only an empty tomb. It

was not till Jesus appeared to them in the Upper Room that Peter believed. And we have the famous story of Thomas the

Apostle.

These women and the Apostles are the best witnesses for the reality of the Resurrection of Jesus, because they were not

expecting it. When this happened, a rumor was started declaring that the disciples of Jesus had stolen His body and taken

it somewhere else and saying: “He did arise as He said - in three days.” This rumor is preposterous because, first, they

would not be able to get passed the Roman guards and, second, they were behind locked doors at the time, scared for their

lives. Plus they do not fit the image of one who would steal a body.

We are privileged to see through their eyes that Jesus did rise, as He foretold, for these witnesses are credible. As we

leave the tomb today, do we see only an empty tomb or, like the women and the Apostles, do we see the reality of the

Risen Christ? Each of the four gospels confirms the reality of the Risen Jesus by the many people who witnessed the

appearance of Jesus to them. Jesus says to us as He did to Thomas: “Have you come to believe because you have seen

me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” (John20: 29). John ends his gospel with these words for

our consideration: “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples that are not written in this book. But

these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,

and that through this belief you may have life in His name.” (John 20: 30 -31).

WITHOUT FAITH, ALL THAT WE SEE IS AN EMPTY TOMB, BUT WITH FAITH, WE SEE

THE RISEN JESUS. What a wonderful gift we are privileged to see through the eyes of the

women and the apostles who were there – the Risen Jesus. JESUS IS RISEN; INDEED

HE IS ARISEN. HAVE A BLESSED EASTER.

God Bless, Fr. Ray

Happy Easter

WORD OF LIFEWORD OF LIFEWORD OF LIFEWORD OF LIFE “The Gospel of Life is not for believers alone: it is for every-one. The issue of life and its defense and promotion is not a concern of the Christian alone. Although faith provides spe-cial light and strength, this question arises in every human conscience which seeks the truth and which cares about the future of humanity. Life certainly has a sacred and religious value, but in no way is that value a concern only of believ-ers. The value at stake is one which every human being can grasp by the light of reason; thus it necessarily concerns everyone.” -Pope John Paul II

MARRIAGE MOMENTSMARRIAGE MOMENTSMARRIAGE MOMENTSMARRIAGE MOMENTS The resurrection of Jesus which we celebrate on Easter was a pretty hard story for the women and apostles to believe. Today, we believe on the testimony of others and thousands of years of retelling the story. Unconditional love is so hard to believe. Believe your spouse's love anyway.

FAMILY LIFEFAMILY LIFEFAMILY LIFEFAMILY LIFE Today’s gospel tells us that several arrived to discover the tomb in which Jesus was buried was now empty. What does an empty tomb mean for your family? Failure, loss, defeat? Or victory, life and resurrection? Scripture says that he “had to rise from the dead.” Families, too, must rise above disap-pointments and be Easter people all year long.
