Volume 20 THE MOST HOLY TRINITY June 7, 2020

Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish continues to grow and bloom despite the challenges of the Renew My Church process and the ever so present distance and worry caused by COVID-19. In spite of these obstacles, we are continuously blessed with God’s love and protection. We have faith in our futures, whatever they may be, and continue to do the good work He knows we can accomplish.

In several phases, we have seen the identity of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish change and emerge. It has been a challenging but rewarding process. Pictured below are the familiar images that have identified where we have been and where we are going.

New Mary, Mother of Divine Grace logo created in partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago; June 1, 2020.

Unity Logo created by Linda Hawkins for the combined new Parish and Unity Mass celebrated on October 5, 2019

Combined church logo created by our parishioner Carolyn Johnson and used on outdoor church signs in

December 2019.

Branding is not about changing our identity but bringing clarity to our identity. The new logo represents our same mission, vision, and purpose; the identity of celebrating one community in Christ in Westchester. Look forward to seeing the new logo on the bulletin cover, website, social media pages and new outdoor signs in front of our churches, which will be coming in the future. Mary, Mother of Divine Grace, pray for us.

-Linda Hawkins Director of Marketing and Enrollment

Dear Parishioners of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace, Though the Archdiocese has indicated that a parish may open for sacramental celebrations, private prayer or Eucharistic Adoration, our parish, like all others in the Archdiocese, will move forward at a pace dictated by the time it takes to assemble enough volunteers to begin the reopening process. Our Reopening Leadership Team seeks additional volunteers (under the age of 65, in good health, and with no underlying health conditions) to assist in the Phase 1 reopening process, which allows for Baptism, Reconciliation, Weddings and Funerals. Only after the parish has successfully completed Phase 1 and 1A of the reopening process will it be allowed to reopen for Masses. We need you in order to move forward. Please consider volunteering in the reopening effort. Please send an email to [email protected] to volunteer. Thank you for your help in this long-awaited return. May God manifest His love and presence to you in abundant ways. -The Staff of Mary, Mother of Divine Grace WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES

Sunday: The Most Holy Trinity; Julian Calendar Pentecost Monday: Tenth Week in Ordinary Time Tuesday: St. Ephrem Thursday: St. Barnabas Saturday: St. Anthony of Padua

Because we can’t go to Mass…

Catholics are encouraged to make a “spiritual communion”. St. John Paul II writes that “it is good to cultivate in our hearts a constant desire for the sacrament of the Eucharist. This was the origin of practice of “spiritual communion” which has happily been established in the Church for centuries and recommended by saints who were masters of the spiritual life. Saint Teresa of Jesus wrote: “When you do not receive communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice; by the love God will be greatly impressed on you”” (Ecclesia Eucharistia, no.34).

Catholics are also encouraged to watch local TV for Sunday Mass. Mercy Home celebrates Mass every Sunday at 9:30am on WGN, Chicago.

Our parish website; www.marymotherofdivinegrace.org has a link to Masses recorded at Divine Infant Jesus Church and Divine Providence Church. There are also links to the Cardinal’s Masses.

This week Fr. Marcin will be celebrating the SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY on June 7, 2020.

If you can’t go to church, BE the Church.

GRACE AND ETERNAL LIFE

Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people? Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s forgiveness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

June 7 SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Today’s readings are especially short, but it’s hard to imagine a trio of scriptural passages that better emphasize the generosity of God. In the first reading, God reveals the divine name, LORD, along with the meaning of the name to Moses on Mount Sinai. Every component of the description of the word “LORD” reveals God’s generosity. God is generous in mercy, graciousness, patience (“slow to anger”), kindness, and fidelity (Exodus 34:6). This is who God is. Paul concludes his second letter to the Corinthians by describing God as the “the God of love and peace,” two gifts that god freely offers to all humankind (2 Corinthians 13:11). Of course, the pinnacle of God’s generosity comes in the gift of Jesus. God first gave him to be born into the world, then gave him over to death in order to redeem a world unable to do it for itself. Finally, God give us the Holy Spirit to remain with us forever. In celebrating the Trinity today, we realize God’s supreme generosity.

How do you respond to others’ generosity? To God’s?
