GOSPEL SYMBOLS AND IMAGES MAKE DISCIPLES BAPTISED WITH THE SPIRIT

The word ‘apostle’ comes from the Greek word meaning ‘one who is sent out’. Jesus sends his apostles out to continue to preach the good news to all the world. This recalls for us the ‘sending out’ that occurs at the end of our Mass: “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord’. We, too, are sent to bring the truth of the Gospel into our daily actions and decisions and thus give witness to the faith we profess.

ASCENSION of the lord 01 June 2014

The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven.

We are looking forward to St Kieran’s church reopening on Saturday 7th June when all mass times will resume to normal as prior to the renovations. Therefore the last week for masses held at St Cecilia’s instead of St Kieran’s will be this weekend and the coming week up until Saturday, when 8.30am mass will be celebrated at St Kieran’s. We thank for your understanding during these past few weeks.

We also look forward next weekend to celebrating the Sacrament of First Holy Communion with the first of our candidates for 2014. See the calendar on the back page of the bulletin for the scheduled mass times.

“In Holy Communion, they will share the banquet of Christ’s sacrifice,

calling God ‘Father’ in the midst of the Church”.

From St. Augustine:

Be a protecting God for me. I will not be saved unless it is in You. Unless you were my rest, my sickness would not be healed. Lift me up from

the ground. Let me lie on You so that I may arise in a fortified place.

Commentary on Psalm 70 (1), 5

Question of the Week

‘They set out for Galilee where Jesus had arranged to meet them.’ Matthew 28:16

At school: When will I make plans to meet up with Jesus and have a chat?

At work or study: Jesus invites me to meet him: do I take up the offer?

In my family life : Do we invite Jesus into our family or are we too busy to make a date? Discipleship this week!

Have a candle burning while preparing/eating meals. A Jesus presence in the kitchen!

This weekend marks the third and final appeal for the financial year to the Charitable Works Fund

(CWF). Envelopes for donations are attached to this week’s bulletin and are also available in the

foyer of the Church. They can be left on the collection plate or at the office.

As the figures below show we are well short of our quota and have a long way to go before we

even match the amounts donated in previous years. In the event there is a shortfall between our

quota and the amount donated by parishioners, as has been the case in the last few years, the

shortfall has to be made up from general parish funds (the second collection) so your generosity

would be appreciated.

Donations to the CWF are 100% tax deductable. . If you have not yet made a contribution or might be considering a

further contribution any donation received prior to June 28 will be deductable this financial year.

St Kieran’s Church in the late 1960’s.

PALLIATIVE CARE AUSTRALIA This year, we're celebrating the people who work in palliative care and the important role they play in ensuring quality care at the end of life for all. We want to educate the community about all of the different people involved in palliative care and encourage people to think about what their role may be.
