The Chronicle News from Christ Church Academy e-mail: [email protected] Tel:01785 334900 www.christchurchacademy.co.uk Absence Reporting: Text 01785 472019 No. 9 31st January 2020 This publication is available on our website where the print size can be enlarged if necessary. If you do not have access to the internet and need this publication in any other format please contact us. There is only a couple of weeks to go before the half term break and so much to fit in - trips, parents' evenings, disco and of course loads of learning! We look forward to welcoming as many parents/carers as possible to our upcoming Year 6 parent/teacher meetings. We are looking at ways to encourage a higher percentage of parents to take up this opportunity - it does give a clear message to children about how important their education is and reinforces to them the value attached to it. We are also continuing with our commitment to go paperless including termly reports, the Chronicle and school event/trip letters. Please can I remind all parents and carers to ensure that the office has an up to date email address and that the school app is used. The app can be downloaded onto phones and tablets and can also be accessed via the web. We have various trips planned this term and later in the year - please use ParentPay to confirm places and check that a receipt has been received. Hope you all enjoy a restful weekend. Mr C M Wright Principal Michelin Tyre Workshop- Monday 20 th January 2020 In Design and Technology year 7 pupils were treated to a visit from Michelin Tyre Company as part of an industrial link initiative. This tied into their current design project which is to design a motor powered vehicle. They explained to pupils about vehicle performance based on the quality of tyres and the different types of tyres they manufacture. Pupils were wowed with examples of the materials that go into tyres and experienced how they are made in the factory. I would like to say a big thank you to Ms Millar who organised this event and Mr P Goodman who delivered the workshop. Y7 Girls County Futsal Champions The Year 7 girls futsal team put on an impressive display to win the county title on Tuesday 28 th January. They won all of their group games to progress to the final. The final was a hard fought battle between us and The Kings School. It ended in a 1-1 draw which meant it went to penalties. After a tense penalty shootout, we came out on top to be crowned county champions for 2020. Well done girls! Library News Advance notice! World Book Day is the 5 th March this year. To celebrate World Book Day pupils are invited to dress up as a character from a childrens story. We will also be holding a book swap at break on that day. A good chance to have a hunt for all those books you have enjoyed but will not read again and swap them for someone elses books. Please send in books suitable for our age group and in good condition. There is currently a huge amount of un-named lost property building up within school. This lost property includes: coats; football boots; trainers; school shoes; school uniform; books and over 50 water bottles. The school does not have the space to store this amount of lost property, therefore anything unclaimed by February half term will be taken to a local clothes recycling facility and the water bottles will be recycled as plastic. This process will be repeated at the end of each half term. Anything that is named is always retuned to the pupils form room, but as you can appreciate, this is also a very time consuming activity. Please ensure that ALL PROPERTY (including water bottles) are named to make this process easier for all concerned.

PTA UPDATE A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported last term's disco, took part in the Santa Sleigh and who bought tickets for the Christmas raffle! The PTA met with staff last night and the money raised so far is going towards funding the following:

Art and craft materials for Friday lunchtime's Bible Journaling Club - this club is growing fast and children from across the school are working on a huge display about the book of Genesis.

A French theatre production - this interactive in-school theatre event is always a highlight for Y5. This year it will be on the theme of Penpals.

The Big Classroom - a new UK initiative that brings classrooms from different cultures, faiths, ethnicities and locations together across a secure online platform managed by teachers. Upcoming dates for your diary include:

Valentine's Disco on Thursday 12th February, 6.30-8pm - tickets will go on sale at the beginning of next week. Glowsticks, flashing rings, heart-shaped biscuits, drinks, sweets and DJ Hammond! Please can children bring their water bottle as it can get hot! If any parents bringing children can stay and help out selling the goodies it would be really, appreciated. Thank you!

Mother's Day gifts - Y5 are getting creative this year! More details to come.

March Easter Bingo - 41, time for fun! A chocolate fest for family teams. Date to come! The PTA is currently just 6 parents and we really need some more ideas and help to keep going. If you'd like to join us - or if you can help out at an event - please just let Mrs Nicholson-Ward know or join us at the disco on 12th Feb. THANK YOU again.
