We have to exercise our right to influence our legislators. This is called “advocacy”….and it is part of striving to look out for the least and the most vulnerable. We are asking that you join thousands of Catholics in Minnesota in expressing our voice to our legislators. Sign up to receive periodic emails concerning legislation throughout the year….and let our congress people know where we stand. Our voice DOES matter. The Catholic Advocacy Network is set up to alert us by email of special legislation that needs our voice. The network makes it easy for us to let our congress people know what we think. The network also can connect us to web sites where we can truly learn what the Catholic church teaches about various issues and why! Sign up this weekend and next. God First in Living and in Giving

Using an Allowance to Help Teach

Stewardship We all know that money can’t buy happiness. Wealthy people can be just as unhappy as poorer people. Rather, happiness comes from being content with what we have and feeling like we are making a difference in the world. We can put our children on the path to a happy and successful life by teaching them how to use and manage money so that it brings them contentment, fills their needs and allows them to help others.

Financial experts suggest that children should be taught to divide their allowance into three or four sections – to spend, to save, to invest and to donate. Spending covers basic needs and wants. Saving teaches patience and planning. Investing looks to the future. For children this might mean future educational needs. Donating gives kids satisfaction by allowing them to be a part of sometime important, like the Offertory.

Our Lord calls each of us to share what we have. He tells us, “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much and even more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” (Luke 12:48) Children who learn to give away a portion of

their financial blessings not only are following the Lord’s command but they also begin to discover that sharing part of their money can be very satisfying. article from: http://archstl.org

THE HEAVENLY BANQUET The mountain of the Lord described in today’s first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and ponder these images every now and then, especially given the fact that we live in such a fractured world. The responsorial psalm continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us throughout our lives. Let us “RSVP” to God’s invitation and live our lives consistent with gospel values so that one day we will be welcomed to the table of the kingdom. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

STAY CONNECTED!

5 Easy Ways to Stay Connected to Your Children! Children are most successful when they know their parents care and are involved in their lives. Too often meeting daily obligations can cause a parent to lose touch with a child. Then when a bad report card comes home or a behavior problem erupts in school it's much harder to start a dialog. The key to successful parent/child communication is to stay connected from the start. Try these ideas: Eat together at least twice a week. Make the main activity conversation, not just eating. Select a game and play it regularly. For younger children try Chutes and Ladders or Candy Land. For older children, Monopoly, Scrabble, or even basketball are good options. If appropriate, keep a running score and leave game boards set up for the next round. Use chauffeuring time well. Your child may feel more comfortable talking when she thinks your attention is on the road. Leave the radio off and tune in to her. Surprise him by helping with one of his chores. That tells him you are on his side. Cook something together at least once a month - pancakes, muffins, even slice-and-bake cookies. Keep it simple to make conversation easier. Be there. You don't always have to be doing something with your children to stay connected. Sometimes just being home and in the same room is enough. from Partners in Faith, Copyright 2006 Success Publishing
