Page 1 THE COG – RCM Meeting 1764 Bulletin 4 September 2019 17 Members of Morialta attended the Campbelltown Combined Service Clubs Dinner at the Council Hall on Tuesday evening. It was great to be able to mix with like minded service club members from Rotary, Inner Wheel, Lions and Kiwanis as well as councillors and staff. Our Honorary Member, Mayor Jill Whittaker, acknowledged the service our clubs provides to the community while the clubs also acknowledged the help the council provides. The guest speaker, Elaine Bensted, Chief Executive, Zoos SA gave an inspirational talk about the work the zoo does for endangered species as well as education and entertainment. The zoo itself was an endangered species when she took the job on due to its weak financial position. The Adelaide Zoo is the smallest city zoo in Australia and is the only one that is a registered charity and not a government entity. The Monarto Zoo by contrast is by far the largest Zoo in Australia and is growing in importance with its conservation work. The zoos operations are now financially stable but they need more funds to support their conservation programs. Next Wednesday we will have the president of Friends of Black Hill Morialta as a guest speak, so please consider inviting your friends to join as well. I am sure it will be very topical for our area. I will be away preparing courses for the SA Orienteering Championships in Renmark and also skiing a few days at Mt Hotham. I will be back on 9th September.
