Page 1 THE COG - RCM Meeting 1573 Bulletin 23 March 2016 Hi Everyone Meeting this week Wednesday 23 March 2016 6.00pm for 6.30pm Rezz Hotel. Fellowship night It’s a normal meeting this week at the Rezz. We have had a very busy week with the RC Morialta Golf Day last Thursday, the Star Disco on Saturday and CARA Picnic on Sunday. In the COG this week is a brief report from Brenton Summers on the Golf Day. A great result, raising $1,088.00 for Australian Rotary Health. We must acknowledge the tremendous support provided by Paradise Motors and BTM Golf (Lochiel Park Golf Course) for this event. I am sure members will be interested to hear a report from Graeme Packer on the Star Disco and CARA Picnic, at the meeting this week. A big thankyou to those Morialta members who helped Brenton with the Golf Day and Graeme with the Star Disco and CARA. Meeting last Week Wednesday 16 March Combined meeting with TTG Inner Wheel at the Rezz (Bistro) A really enjoyable meeting and dinner last week with TTG Inner Wheel club . The response from both clubs with over 60 attending was most encouraging. It was great to hear about Inner Wheel from President Jan Johnson and to extend a welcome to John Gardner MP (State Member for Morialta) Our guest speaker Fred Hamood, the Proprietor of the Rezz, was most entertaining and provided an insight into his plans for the Hotel redevelopment. Looks like we will need to find temporary meeting facilities from January 2017 during the construction of the new REZZ. A big thank you to Brenton Summers for organising a great evening and for undertaking the role of MC/Sergeant on the night. Looking ahead The meeting on Wednesday 30 March 2016 will involve a presentation from PDG Barbara Wheatcroft from Australian Rotary Health (ARH) This will be an opportunity for us to present a cheque / donation to ARH from the RC Morialta Golf Day. Our next Big Event Quiz Night - Friday 15 April Please promote the Quiz Night to your friends and family. Details about the night are listed in this newsletter and registrations /Tickets can be obtained from Katarina Spudic. Sunday 20th March - Cooking for CARA- CARA, 98 Woodville Rd, Woodville

CARA Picnic Started at 9.30am setting the BBQ trailer up, and commenced cooking 9.45/10.00 until just after 12.00pm when we completed the task with the other Rotary Club of West Lakes who had their BBQ trailer and 8 members, great helpers. Look forward to most properly doing it again next year. Again we had a team of members who cooked or helped, transferred or just help were ever possible. Tony will not need to do any more onions for a while because we did approx. 25-30kg, and then Vegetation Food, and the shasliks Paul will not need to do any more Sausages, chicken & Beef Shasliks, or Patties for a while, as these were never ending supply to cook. And we had 2 members from West Lakes Rotary who also cooked on our BBQ again an endless supply of sausages, and then shasliks as well. Sue & Katarina were everywhere either preparing for the cooks, helping to put food on the BBQ, taking cooked food to the gas Ovens for storage, they did a great job And I helping were ever necessary Again a great event by those who attended and a BIG THANKS should be given for their help on a great day to help CARA celebrate their 2016 picnic again. SPONSORS’ NEWSLETTER MARCH, 2016

"Empowering Indonesian Children for a Brighter Future"

Project 36-2009-10 # Indonesia Embraces Changes

Changes are in the air! We are pleased to inform you of proposals to review the aims and objectives of

this project to better meet the guidelines of Rotary International and RAWCS Ltd for a sustainable

development project. We wish to shed any previous perception that this was merely a ‘welfare project.’

Poverty is still rife in Indonesia. You will notice the Project Name has been changed to: “Empowering

Indonesian Children for a Brighter Future.”

We have consulted with our partners, Salvation Army, Indonesia and Rotary e-Club Jakarta Gunawarman.

A recent survey provided valuable insight into ways Project 36-2009-10 # Indonesia may better serve the

needs of the orphans and impoverished children you sponsor. Of particular note was the realisation that

students deriving the greatest benefit from this project are the older ones — senior High School pupils and

students at tertiary level. Because of financial and family constraints many children quit school

prematurely, often seeking work, usually menial and unfulfilling, thus never reaching their true potential.

Page 9: THE COG - RCM Meeting 1573 Bulletin 23 March 2016morialta.org.au/wp-content/uploads/COGs/July2015June2016/36-Rotary... · THE COG - RCM Meeting 1573 Bulletin 23 March 2016 ... A really

Page 9

Our consultations with our partners in Indonesia have revealed a need to provide financial support and

incentive to encourage students to complete their High School education and, if capable, to continue to

tertiary or vocational college; or university. Despite their adversity some students have already achieved a

qualification or a degree and are grateful for the modest assistance our project has provided. Not all

students will necessarily be capable of furthering their education beyond high school but let's provide an

opportunity for those that are, to realise their goals. Let’s empower these children for a brighter future!

Nowadays, primary school education is free to all children in Indonesia. However the additional cost of

bags, school books, pens and pencils; and clothing, especially footwear, imposes a considerable burden

on Salvation Army (approx. AU$200 - $400). We will continue to support these children as in the past. At

high school, the costs for extra-curricular activities and books and uniforms rises exponentially (AU$700 -

$800), as every parent comes to realise.

There are currently 297 students on our register, living in 17 Salvation Army Homes throughout Indonesia.

Many others need sponsors. The number of children in the homes varies (4 – 25). We have 77 individual

or corporate sponsors; and 88 Rotary Club sponsors; 11 Rotary Clubs sponsor three or more students.

We, the Salvation Army, and most especially the children are extremely appreciative of the generous

support freely given by all sponsors. With our help they can become future leaders and professionals in

their community. Thank you.More sponsors are needed! To successfully implement changes we are

proposing, considerable extra funding is required. If your Rotary Club can help; or if you know other

people who may wish to sponsor a child please put them in touch with us.

We hope every Rotary Club will donate $550 min/year.

52 years on, (this project began in 1964) we are proposing some changes to the aims and objectives to

improve development of this project. We trust we will continue to receive your support and endorsement.

Please give these your careful consideration:
