Parish Partnership Update As you may recall, in recent years all parishes in the diocese have been partnered with one or two others in response to the growing priest shortage. St Clare is partnered with Corpus Chris in Shiloh. Last year Bishop Braxton requested that all partnerships submit an ini al plan, preparing for the day when there would be only one priest to serve both parishes. These were submi ed last December. In June Bishop Braxton issued a diocesan-wide response to all these reports, affirming things within them that he felt were posi ve and helpful, and making recommenda ons for further work. (This re-port can be accessed at diobelle.org for anyone who would like to read it). Partnerships must now submit a second, more specific re-port to the Bishop by November. Margaret Andrasko, John Gomez and Rita Zinn are the partnership commi ee members from St. Clare. Before Father Jim le on his sabba cal he asked the pastoral staff to meet with the pastoral staff at Corpus Chris to discuss some ways we could be working together in the mean me. This we did, mee ng in August and Sep-tember. We iden fied ways in which our youth ministries are col-labora ng; discussed how some parish groups could have joint gatherings, had a mee ng about RCIA, and suggested ways to com-bine our holyday Mass schedules. These mee ngs also served to help us become more acquainted with one another and understand be er how each parish operates. Last Saturday we had the first combined mee ng of pastoral staffs and partnership commi ees at Corpus Chris . We discussed where we are in the process and where we s ll need to go. Be-cause Fr Jim is away, our deadline for our report was extended by two weeks. Both partnership commi ees and pastoral staffs from each parish will have a mee ng in the next month to brainstorm what an administra ve plan might look like with one pastor. We will also explore some weekend Mass schedule op ons. Then we will meet again together a er Father Jim returns. Working together like this is a wonderful opportunity to stretch ourselves in a collabora ve effort, and as with anything new, has its own set of challenges. Please con nue to pray for the Church of Belleville with us as we plan our future together.

We Are Called To Be Saints We look to the saints as holy people, but who also struggled to become virtuous as they wrestled with tempta ons and sins just as we do. They had fears and worries, family and financial problems, health issues and sorrows just like we experience. But they overcame these earthly trials through faith and trust in God, and their witnesses can help us navigate our challenges and guide us on our own journey through life toward heaven. There is a saying that there is a saint for every sinner…have you found your saint to help you on your journey?

In this fascinating presentation, Relevant Radio talk show hosts interview various experts about

the lives of great saints and holy people of the Catholic Church.

This presentation includes on-air discussions about St. Peregrine,

Blessed Mother Teresa, St. Ignatius of Loyola,

St. John Paul II, St. Augustine and St. Monica, St. Peter and

St. Paul, and also about the mystery of incorrupt saints!

Relevant Radio began broadcas ng in Wisconsin in the year 2000 in response to Pope John Paul II’s call for a “New Evangeliza on”. Rele-vant Radio is the largest Catholic talk radio network in the United States, with 15 sta ons and 20 affiliates reaching 16 states. It was founded by a group of dedicated Catholic business men with the radio sta on call le ers WJOK 1050 AM (the le ers JOK standing for “Jesus Our King”.)

If you have listened to or read any Lighthouse CDs or books, we’d love to hear your comments...just look for the “comments” sec on on the kiosk.

Are you ready to transform your rela onship from everyday ordinary to extraordinary, from good to great?

“Men are Like Waffles—Women are Like Spaghe ” Drawing on the popular book by the same tle, speakers Sco & Karen Seaborn will offer a dynamic presenta on on how men and women are wired. Come hear how to understand, handle and even embrace our difference.

Bring an appe zer to share. On-site babysi ng is available with RSVP to [email protected] or 632-3562 by Nov. 7.

The Month of November Our Celebration of the Communion of Saints

November 1 Feast of All Saints On this day the church, deeply rooted in our belief in the com-munion of saints, celebrates with gladness all the saints, known and unknown to us, who enjoy the glory of Heaven. We honor a huge body of believers who have supported and inspired us by their example. Ordinarily a Holyday of Obligation, since it occurs this year on a Saturday, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted. There-fore, there will not be a special Mass at St. Clare for this feast. However, we are encouraged to remember that because of our baptism, each of us bears in our hearts the divine life of God, which makes us holy. Let us celebrate in our personal prayer that day our own feast, and recognize in ourselves and those around us the glow of the divine.

November 2—Commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls) Belief that our prayers can be beneficial to the dead is a time-honored one in our Cath-olic tradition. We profess it every time we recite the Nicene Creed: “I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” In this feast we express our belief in the communion of saints as we pray that our beloved dead will be received as heaven’s holy men and women. We gratefully call to mind those whom we love who have died, and are comforted by the fact that because they are with God, they remain with us as well. We are united in the bonds of the Spirit—as one big family.

As is our custom at St. Clare, we have invited you to bring photos of their deceased loved ones and place them in either of our two shrine areas. They will serve as reminders to us throughout the month of the great cloud of holy witnesses that surrounds us always in the Body of Christ.
