GOAL SETTING: I have started student goal setting interviews
and will hopefully have them all done by the end of term.
Those conducted to date with the Year 3 and 4 students have
been excellent with the children showing intelligence in how
they set learning goals for the semester. I am emailing them
home so that parents can support our efforts and maximise
your child’s learning.
STUDENT FREE DAY: is this Thursday and staff will be attending
a statewide forum on Formative Assessment. All schools from
our network will also attend. Vacation Care is available and the
program looks very interesting for the children. Please contact
Kazz for details…and remember NEW families will need to enrol
in OSHC to enable this to occur. Remember with childcare
benefits, the rate you pay could be as low as $20 per child for
the day!!! That doesn’t even cost feeding them!!
CELEBRATIONS: I would like to acknowledge our students’
behaviour. Rosina Fotia, Principal of Lilydale Heights, made a
special point of making contact to praise our senior students
and their considerate attitude and sportsmanlike behaviour at
their latest transition day. Very proud of you all, seniors! In
addition the 3-6s were very exemplary at the athletics last
Friday and despite the heat all performed their personal best
efforts. (Thanks also to the parents who stepped up when we
were left short staffed.)
In addition what a wonderful surprise the 1/ 2 grade gave the
school today! 16 students out of the 18 received Mathletics
certificates today and 17 received awards of sometype….YOU
ARE AMAZING CHILDREN!!! Keep up the sensational work!!

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONT.
HARMONY DAY: While I was at a Principal Network meeting on Thursday’s Harmony Day and couldn’t get to
see Sean Choolburra, apparently he was wonderful. The children danced and laughed at Sean’s antics and
thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Yering PS and all our other visitors who popped in for the
performance.
Have a great break. There are many lots cost and free activities available in the Shire. These are a great
alternative to electronic games.
As this is our last newsletter for the term, the staff would like to wish you Happy Holidays and a very
Happy Easter. Stay safe and we will see you on Tuesday 23rd April, for the beginning of Term 2.

SCHOOL CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Hi Coldstream, we’re back with another report on the week.
On Monday 5th, lucky students went to the National Young Leaders Day at The Melbourne Convention Centre, with the
school captains among them. We listened to lots of inspirational speeches made by amazing leaders who have made
incredible journeys from ordinary to extraordinary.
On Thursday 21st we had our Cold Rock fundraiser, it was delicious. We raised $176.40 was raised towards Graduation
It was also Harmony Day. Sean Choolburra came out to our school. Sean travels all over the world performing. He had
a big display of aboriginal weapons and tools. He taught us traditional dances that were millions of years old. They
were cool.
Thank you to all the grandparents that made the effort to come here and play games with their grandchildren for
Grandparent’s Day. The preps, 1s and 2s had a ball.
Thank you for reading our report.

Young Leader’s Day
On Monday the 18th of March, Tyler, Taylah Mae, Nathan R, Nathan M, and I went to the National Young
Leaders Day in Melbourne, at the Melbourne Convention Centre to learn more about leadership with Mrs
Godden and Tyler’s mother.
When we got there after at least ¾ of an hour on the train, we walked for about ten minutes ‘till we got to
the Melbourne Convention Centre. We went into door nine and found our seats in row P on the bottom
floor. The first speaker was Cal Wilson; she is a stand-up comedian and an author. Then we had a snack
break and held a snake, petted a sugar glider, saw a frilled neck lizard and saw a barking owl. After that we
went back into the auditorium and saw the second speaker, Tim Diamond, then the third speaker Leisel
Jones. Then we had lunch and saw as the fourth speaker, Holly Ferling.
All in all it was an amazing experience and thank you Mrs Godden for buying each of us the Halogen pin. - Alasdair
We listened to inspirational speakers at the National Young Leaders’ Day on the 18th March, 2019. 5 lucky
students of Coldstream Primary School were invited to this special day.
Nathan M, Nathan R (me), Taylah Mae, Tyler and Alasdair all came. For our hosts we had Liv from ABC ME
and DJ Ralph who is a “qualified” DJ apparently.
We enjoyed the day very much; we got to hold a snake as well.
I loved it!!! – Nathan R.

ATHLETICS DAY
We scurried off the bus at Morrison Reserve in Mount Evelyn for our Athletics Day. The 3s, 4s, 5s and 6s
attended, and we were all really excited. There were at least 6 different schools there, so it was really
nerve-racking. We competed in 8 different events and they were: Shot Put, Discus, High Jump, Long Jump,
Relays, Leader ball, 100 metre Sprints and 800 metre Long Distance Run. I won three ribbons. I came 1st in
Shot Put and Discus, and I came 4th in the 800 metre run. I enjoyed it a lot and I’m sure everyone else did
too. It was an amazing day, and I’m eager to do it again next year! Because of getting 1st in Shot Put and
Discus, I am now able to advance to Regional’s at Burwood in October this year.
- Katie
On the 22nd of March Grade 3 to 6 went to Athletics day, it was amazing; we did fun activities like shot
put, high jump and long jump. There were 6 schools competing and the activity that I adore is long jump. I
loved Athletics day.
- Lily
HARMONY DAY
I’m playing with my friends and I suddenly heard the bell ring, then I realized that we had a special
performance. I rushed to the line. BOOM, loud music played, my ears were vibrating because it was so
loud! Sean Choolburra started dancing! Then we listened to Sean for a while he said, “If you are from South
Africa put your hand up,” so two people from Yering Primary put their hands up, Kiara and Brodie, Sean
said every second name in Africa is (apparently) Brodie, he also said that they would definitely own a pair
of gumboots, they did. Sean did a gumboot dance, he also did some more dances like the tractor,
crocodile, echidna and dragonfly dances. I got to dance in the echidna dance.
We had spears to dig out the echidna. Loud music played for all the dances. Sean also told quite a few
jokes. At the end of the performance we had a dance battle! Kaiyah and Josh were battling each other! I
had an awesome time!
- Courtney
Sean‘s music was so loud you could probably hear it from my house and everyone was dancing it was so
cool. The bell rang and Sean turned off the music. Everyone went inside to pack up then we went back
outside to watch Sean dance.
First he introduced himself and then he said that he can speak every language. I didn’t believe it at first but
then he chose about 7 people to pick different countries around the world and he spoke all of the
languages. Wow now I believe! Then he asked if anyone was from South Africa two people put their hands
up their names were Brody and Kiara. Sean said Brody is short for Bro and then he did the gumboot dance,
at the end he did a twerk. Then he picked people to use the clap sticks.
He showed us other dances and told us Dreamtime stories. He was so funny!
- Skye

On the 21st/3rd/2019 Sean Choolburra came to our school. Sean is an Aboriginal comedian which means
he is very humorous. He did some dances like a South African gumboot dance, the tractor dance, the
crocodile dance, the echidna dance and the dragonfly dance.
He got some kids to come up and make a fire. They were Taj and a girl from Yering Primary. They
proceeded to try to make the fire while there was music; they didn't end up making a fire but… Sean made
a fire! It was really cool! At the end people got to go up and dance and I went up! We all copied Sean and then we had a dance battle, two people went up and I was one of them we did the dance battle and then we went home.
Sean Choolburra came to our school to celebrate Harmony Day.
- Kaiyah.
Harmony Day was exciting. At the end of the day we had Sean Choolburra come to perform. He did
awesome dances. The first dance was the gumboot dance from South Africa. Then it was the tractor dance,
both were amazing. But the dragonfly dance was my favourite.
Also there were crocodile and echidna dances which were great. He also told funny jokes and at the end he
played music.
- Rivah
At Lunch I heard the bell going “DING, DING, DING” It was time for Sean Choolburra. Everyone went inside
to get ready for Sean Choolburra. We all sat down, I sat next to my friend Shane. Sean started the show. He
was so funny we couldn’t stop laughing. I got to make FIRE! With Steph, everyone was cheering for me
because they wanted me to start a fire with two sticks. Overall he was really entertaining.
