    limitation of the original story vehicle.

    In that spirit, and holding to the long tradition of free promotion and

    support that fanfic brings to the fictional verse, this story is being made

    ACT ONE

    FADE IN:

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, WING B, LAUREN'S LAB -- DAY

    LAUREN is at her desk in her chair, which is turned

    sideways, toward JOHN. She types from time to timesomething on a keyboard, briefly turning her focus tosequences that scroll on her monitor.

    LAURENI'd never imagine that it'spossible to have serial dreams inthe scope you're having.

    JOHNNow you're telling me.

    LAUREN

    Sorry. Unintended.How does she look like?

    JOHNA bit like Cameron.

    LAURENYou're projecting.

    JOHNYeah, though so too.

    LAURENHer speech pattern is a bitidiosyncratic.

    JOHNI'd say it's bordering ongibberish, sometimes. She comes upwith some odd word combination, orstrings out of context... likeseveral times she said "eightbefore seventeen" out of the blue.

    LAURENHmmm, and the mixing up of thepast and future timelines. She'sgetting better at it?

    JOHNI sometimes think she does... andthen Ay gets confused.

    LAURENWhat did you just say?

    JOHNShe is on track and then againconfused.

    LAURENNo! You said a sound... a wordthere.

    JOHNAy. A-why.

    LAURENHold on a minute.

    Lauren dials a number.

    LAUREN (CONT'D)Les, do you have that old binderfrom Skynet?

    Project code.

    Lauren looks at John and waits. John opens his mouth to saysomething but Lauren stops him with her palm.

    LAUREN (CONT'D)Thanks. Ever used it in thecommunications? Maybe a couple oftimes?... Yes, I'll explain later.

    Lauren hangs up her phone.

    LAUREN (CONT'D)

    John, I don't know how to tell youthis. It's so improbable that allmy schooling is in revolt.

    JOHNI'm not sure... am not gettingwhat you're trying to say.

    LAURENI don't know how, I don't knowwhy, but you are talking in yourdreams with Cameron.

    JOHNNo, she's just a projection.You've said it yourself.

    LAURENThere is only a handful of peoplethat know Cameron's originalSkynet code. Les, Mia, Catherine,and me. I saw it once. And Cameron.

    JOHN

    Jesus!

    LAURENNot sure he has anything to dowith it, but I can imagine how youfeel.

    JOHNWhat I do now? Is it bad?

    LAURENI don't know. You can't help it.She is getting into your head.

    Somehow.

    JOHNShe always wants to hold my hand.It's like an anchor for her.

    LAURENYes, that makes a sense. It wasthe impetus for her... return.

    JOHNI don't want to get this... get itderailed.

    LAURENI understand. Damn, I can't thinkstraight!

    JOHNThat's easy for you to say.

    LAURENIf we somehow find a way to getthe linkage interrupted, she maygo around it. She is mostly in theId state. That means she issolipsistic.

    JOHNYou mean like a form of autism?

    LAURENSimilar.

    Lauren withdraws into her thoughts for a while.

    You've been quiet for half aminute.

    LAUREN(sighs)

    Just trying to figure out how todeal with this. We may have toinform Catherine. Not sure yet.Let's do some data collectionfirst. I am trying to establish ifthere was something that set thisin motion. Remember the triggerssession break?

    JOHNYes.

    LAURENDid it start after it?

    JOHNNo.

    LAURENAre you able to remember when?

    JOHNI can actually give you a date. Imean I can find out.

    LAURENHow?

    JOHNBetter yet... Remember when youtaught me how to remember dreams?

    LAURENYes.

    JOHNThe very next night.

    LAURENYou're sure.

    JOHNYeah, I can trace it if you want.

    LAURENI believe you. Well, it'shappening and it may be creatingmore damage if we try to stop it.So we may as well go along, but weneed to find a way for it to workas an integral part of the whole

    program.

    JOHNIdeas?

    LAURENI probably need some time to wrapmy head around it. John, to whatdegree are you able to manage yourdreams?

    JOHNWhat do you mean?

    LAURENAre you aware that you aredreaming?

    JOHNWithin a dream?

    LAURENYeah, that's what I meant.

    JOHNI... don't know.

    LAURENWell, since it worked once, we mayas well try again. Put on yourpost-it note something like... "Iam aware that I am dreaming whenin a dream".

    JOHNYou think that would work?

    LAURENIt ought to work. I used thatmethod as a kid. Had nightmaresand had to find a way to manage mydreams. It may take a while to getit under a control, but that'swhat we need... what Cameronneeds. A second track of theregular program.

    JOHNSounds like a plan.

    LAURENI may need to flesh out thedetails. Probably with Les' andMia's help. Not Catherine, I'mafraid she'd freak out. And onemore thing. The less you knowabout the details of the new

    direction, the better it may be.We'd need you doing, not thinking.

    JOHNYou mean like getting me specificsegments one at a time?

    LAURENYeah, that would be the format.You'd go through the segment. Oncecompleted, you'd get another one.We need to synchronize it withyour other channel, so the result

    is reinforcement.

    JOHNHow long do you think I can getthe awareness?

    LAURENLucidity. Not sure. A week, tendays. Or a month. It's not thatpredictable.

    JOHNHow long it took you?

    LAURENTwo days. But children are veryflexible and don't have all sortsof conceptual barriers that wouldhinder it.

    JOHNMaybe I need to reach to my innerkid.

    Lauren smiles, though it is a bit wry kind of smile.

    LAURENWorking with you is... you are oneof a kind.

    JOHNIt's late, I should go. And makemy post-it note.

    ACT TWO

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, CONNORS' APARTMENT -- LATER

    JOHN is looking at his screen, but he seems unfocussed. Anorange post-it note is already changed, displaying the newmessage. John picks up his phone and dials.

    JOHNLauren, you're still there.

    LAUREN (O.S.)I think I am in a solidarityvigil, somewhat involuntarily. Itusually takes me a while toproperly freak out.

    JOHNSorry. I can call you tomorrow.

    LAUREN (O.S.)No. I'm glad you're calling.Somehow that helps me dealing withthis.

    JOHNIt doesn't bother me that she isgetting into my head. Beside thephysics. There may be some sort ofexplanation that does not breakthe rules. It's the potential thatI could screw up the whole thingwhat worries me.

    LAUREN (O.S.)John, how much do you remember?

    JOHNThe dreams?

    LAUREN (O.S.)Yes.

    JOHNI can recall them quite ... well.They are very vivid.

    LAUREN (O.S.)The conversations?

    JOHNWord for word.

    LAUREN (O.S.)Can you... do me a favor and writeit all down?

    LAUREN (O.S.)I sense something that I may havemissed in my first reaction. Also,I think I'm overreacting.

    JOHNA hunch?

    LAUREN (O.S.)

    Yes. Can't put my finger on it,yet.

    JOHNWhat's your impression?

    LAUREN (O.S.)

    She's piecing something togetherand I'm not sure where that'scoming from.

    JOHNGood or bad?

    LAUREN (O.S.)I can't qualify it like that. Itis more like a potential. I canprobably tell you once I analyzethe transcripts. I hope.

    JOHNLauren--

    LAUREN (O.S.)What?

    JOHNWhen is Mia due?

    LAUREN (O.S.)Is it related? In two weeks, Ithink.

    JOHNNo, not relevant for what's goingon within dreams. I'd like to sendher my transcripts too. If youagree.

    LAUREN (O.S.)Of course.

    JOHNShe nailed the 3:17. She thinks

    outside the box.

    LAUREN (O.S.)She does, doesn't she? I'll callher tomorrow and give her a bit ofa primer. Is it okay with you?

    JOHNJust the... basics.

    LAUREN (O.S.)Right. As little bias as possible.I won't give her any of my

    conclusions. How long do you thinkit would take you to transcribe itall until now?

    JOHNProbably a couple of days. Becauseof the schedule.

    LAUREN (O.S.)John, take as much time as youneed, don't cut corners. Iexpected you to say 2-3 weeks. Ifyou make it in one, that's more

    than perfect.

    JOHNIt's now very fresh, I want totake an advantage of it.

    LAUREN (O.S.)Right. Looking forward to readingit.

    EXT. ISLAND BEACH -- DAY

    JOHN is walking a few feet from the ocean's surf, and everyfifth or sixth wave washes over his feet. The path of hisfeet track bends behind him in a gentle curve. He speed upa little when he sees Ay sitting in her usual spot.

    AYJohn, where is your hand?

    JOHNYou know I am here?

    AYI can hear your footsteps.

    JOHNAlmost there... The other hand.I'm to your left.

    AYI'm thinking.

    JOHNThinking just now?

    AYI was thinking before and I'mthinking now again.

    JOHNWhat about?

    AYYou were right. You are right.

    JOHNCan you explain?

    AY(The white room. I don't seeit. But I feel it. I'svery, very small. It keepsme in one spot.)

    JOHN

    Can't you just get up and walk?

    AY(shaking her head no)

    Only sometimes. I don't walk likeyou.

    JOHNHow do you walk?

    AYI walk funny. Five steps with onefoot and then five steps withother foot.

    JOHNAy, I'm sorry. It's my fault.

    AY(shaking her head no)

    Not your fault. I'm just that way.The feet have their own thinking.

    AY(NODS)

    Yes. I'd like that very much! ButI don't know how. I can't tellthem to behave.

    JOHNI think I may be able to help.

    AYCan you... now?

    JOHNNot now, I need to do morethinking.

    AYYeste... tomorrow?

    JOHNMaybe tomorrow, or some day afterthat.

    AY

    I wish I'm walking when you'rehere. With you on the beach. Thisroom is too small.

    JOHNI need to do more thinking aboutthat. Ay, I'd like to ask yousomething.

    AYWhat something? There are manysomethings.

    JOHNDo you still hear voices? Otherthan me?

    AYYes. Not often.

    JOHNDo you know their names?

    AYI don't know if I can. But I cantry.

    AYWarren, long time back beforeLes...Mia, Catherine, Lauren, Allison,Maria, Jen, Moss... and Al sounds

    just like him. There are othervoices but I don't know theirnames.

    JOHNThat's a lot of voices.

    AYNot that many, I can sometimeshear many more. I don't know wherethey are and I don't know theirnames.

    JOHNDo you hear me when I am not here?

    AY(NODS)

    But you are not talking to me.Only here when you are close.

    JOHNWhom I am talking to?

    AYTo other voices. To not othervoices.

    JOHNWhich one?

    AYBoth, you silly.

    AYI don't know.

    AYShebreathes Cameron.

    John looks at Ay and sees her lower lip bleeding. John

    reaches with his finger and touches the lip. The bloodsmears on his finger.

    JOHNAy, you are bleeding! Why you arebitting your lip?

    AYI don't know.

    JOHNI've got to go.

    AYPlease don't go, I won't do itagain!

    JOHNI just have to. I'll be back.

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, CONNORS' APARTMENT -- MORNING

    LAUREN sits on a chair beside JOHN, reading the transcriptand paging it on the monitor. She, finishes and looks atJohn.

    Lauren turns back to the monitor and types on the keyboard:"FASCINATING. Can we go outside? I need to tell you a fewthings." John NODS and they leave the apartment.

    LAURENLet's walk to my lab.

    JOHNSure. I need to be back in half anhour.

    MIA (O.S.) (CONT'D)From the beginning to the end.Almost a thriller. With asemi-child as a main protagonist,but still a thriller.

    JOHN

    You almost imply she's dangerous.

    MIA (O.S.)I hope not. But as Moss oftensays, the mind of women orCatherine is a complete mystery.We can skip Catherine in thisinstance and concentrate on Ay.I'd add that there is a potentialfor some FUBAR. Trust me, I knowmy sisters.

    JOHN

    I dislike FUBAR intensely. Whatcan we do?

    MIA (O.S.)I think Lauren is right, in thebulk part about giving Aysomething to die for. The problemis you can't just hit her with itall of the sudden. She may go fullCarrie. And if my hunch meter iscalibrated right, she is capableof a really crazy crap. She doesnot care what we think physics is

    and not even begs to differ.

    JOHNMia, you're freaking me out. Idon't know. She seems rathersweet. And her capabilities seemrather limited.

    MIA (O.S.)Right. Getting into someone's headand dreams is so utterly ordinary!Look, she's sweet until that pointwhen she'd feel threatened. Thenyou'd see what she's made of.

    JOHNMia, you're not helping.

    MIA (O.S.)Okay, I'll try to be kinder andgentler. Remember Skynet?

    AYI can stand! John, I can stand!

    JOHNOne step at the time. Now, let'ssee if--

    AYCan you tell my feet to walk?

    JOHNI can try. This may be harder.Hold on me tight, okay? Now let'smove your right foot. Tell it tomove.

    AYI can't. I'm telling it, but Ican't.

    JOHNLet me try.

    John Bends down a bit and moves Ay's foot forward.

    JOHN (CONT'D)Now the other one.

    AYI walked!

    JOHNWe try again and again, okay?

    John moves Ay's feet, one at the time. From the twentiethstep, it seems easier, as if there is some effort on Ay'spart.

    AYI think I am getting through tothem.

    JOHNLet's not rush it. Slowly.

    Ay is now starting to shuffle her feet by herself. Johnstill provides a support and lifts Ay a bit at each step.

    AYJohn, look back! Our tracks! Ican't see where they begin!

    JOHNLet's look forward, we have a trekahead of us.

    TAWNYWill do. Later.

    Tawny exits the office and descends to the first floor andheads to the bathroom. Door is half open, so she enters.

    TAWNY (CONT'D)Alex, you ok?

    ALEXBleeds like hell. Sorry aboutthat. Who was it?

    TAWNYMia. She wants me to go to L.A.

    for one day. She's got a projectfor me. She did not say what. Ithink she needs to set up adatabase.

    ALEX(laughs)

    Yeah, that's the ticket! WithToshi and Allison in theneighborhood, she needs you to doit.

    TAWNY

    But I am good at it now.

    ALEXYou're famous. No, Tawny. She's upto something... But she knows whatshe's doing, so I suppose she'sgot a good reason to ask for yourhelp. How'd you get there?

    TAWNYShe said Moss is going back toL.A., so I'll hitch with him.

    ALEXYou're going with Moss... Twohours in his presence. Somethingdoes not add up.

    back.

    Tawny hands the phone to Alex.

    ALEXHi Mia. Heard you need Tawny for aproject.OK, a day.At your place... No objections.Tomorrow night? She can stay a day

    extra. Yeah, no problem. How'syour addition? Alena, a nice name.Maybe in a month, for a week.Yeah, we sure will. Later.

    ALEX (CONT'D)Tawny, get packed, Moss will behonking in 40 minutes. You canstay there a day extra, bed andbreakfast at Mia's. Jason willtake you back the night aftertomorrow.

    TAWNYYes, ma'am! How's your head?

    ALEXIt's really nothing. Just messy.Nothing to worry about.

    TAWNYMaybe Moss can drop you off atemergency.

    ALEXNah, really it's just a minor cut.Go and get ready. 37 minutes.

    EXT. L.A., IN FRONT OF DANILOS' HOUSE -- NIGHT

    MOSS stops his truck.

    TAWNYAre we here?

    MOSSAre you going to Zeira tomorrow?

    TAWNYMia said something in that sense.

    MOSSBuzz me at Annex G, I've gotsomething for you and Alex.

    TAWNYYeah, okay. Good night Al.

    MOSSGood night, Tawny.

    INT. L.A., DANILOS' HOUSE -- NIGHT

    MIA opens the door of a room on the second floor. TAWNYfollows her in.

    MIASmall, but with a view. You'll seein the morning. Let's godownstairs, you must be ravenous.I'll brief you while you eat.

    TAWNYYeah, I could eat your wholepantry.

    MIAI hope you're exaggerating. Howabout some turkey, potatoes andcranberry sauce?

    TAWNYYummy! Any veggies? Carrots,broccoli?

    MIAHere's what you must do--

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, CONNORS' APARTMENT -- MORNING

    JOHN just finished a routine Cameron's exercise and goes tohis room. Phone rings and after a third ring tone, Johnpicks up.

    JOHNYes? Tawny! What... Yeah, sure.

    Oh, here... Yeah, why not. Stillsleeping, like in that fairy tale.About 2PM? Can you make it 3PM?Right... I need to do some...exercise... With Cameron...Scheduled program... Good. See youthen.

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, CONNORS' APARTMENT -- AFTERNOON

    JOHN is typing some notes on his system. He hears KNOCKS onthe apartment door. He looks at the system clock, andswitches to a slideshow of random images.

    JOHNJust a moment!

    John gets up and heads for the door. He opens and TAWNY isstanding there with a wide smile. And a bunch of teenagegirls behind her.

    TAWNYHi John!

    JOHNTawny, I thought you're comingalone. Who--

    TAWNYJohn, thought I bring my friendsalong. They wanted to meet you fora long time.

    JOHNRight, that's what I need rightnow.

    AYIs Tawny your wife?

    JOHNNo, she's quite young. Old friendmeans for a long time.

    AYShe sounded so full of... life.Like she could fly.

    JOHNShe's like that.

    Her voice is so... clear.

    JOHNYeah, she's quite charming.

    Ay is quiet for a while.

    AYJohn... You said that Cameron isyour wife... that you're together.

    JOHNYeah, she is.

    AYHow come I never hear her voice?

    JOHNShe's... on her own island.

    AYLike mine?

    JOHNI am here every day.

    AYI know. But I sense time betterthan before. I remember when youweren't here. For days. It waslonely.

    JOHNBut I returned.

    AYWere you with Tawny?

    JOHNYes, and with Alex.

    AYI don't know her voice. Is she anold friend?

    JOHNYeah. Longer than Tawny. She'solder than me.

    AYWhat's the difference between oldfriend and wife?

    JOHNAn old friend can be a man or awoman. A wife is a woman that's insome ways much closer.

    AYHow can she sound like two otherpersons?

    JOHNShe's Allison's sister.

    AYIs she my sister?

    JOHNNo. I don't know. Maybe in someway.

    AYDoes Allison look like me?

    JOHNYes. But she looks older than you.

    AYCan Allison be your wife?

    JOHNNo, she's a wife to Jason.

    AYHe doesn't have your face.

    JOHNRight. His face looks different. Idon't have a brother.

    AYCan Tawny be your wife?

    JOHNShe... No.

    AYBecause Cameron's your wife.

    AY (CONT'D)If Cameron finds her voice, will Isee you again?

    JOHNI don't know.

    Ay releases John's hand and drops down on her knees. She'sdrawing with her finger in the sand--circles, withincreasing speed, almost feverishly, connecting them withstraight lines. She wipes out a line or a circle sometimes,and starts anew in that spot.

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, CONNORS' APARTMENT -- LATER

    JOHN is looking down on Cameron and studies her face as iftrying to read what is going on in her mind. John heads forhis room and takes his phone from the desk and dials.

    JOHNMia, have a free moment?

    MIANot sure for how long. Be quick.

    JOHNCan you give me some explanation?I'd like to peer into your blackbox.

    I can explain at some point, itwould take a while. The skinny ofit... I wanted to trigger hercognitive abilities. To get her torealize who she is.

    JOHNI understand that. Just the girlsthing does not make much sense.

    MIAJohn, we've got to take araincheck on that, okay? The brain

    Phone rings again and John picks up.

    JOHNTawny! What--No, no misgivings, no apologiesnecessary, you're... Les isdropping you off? Yeah, sure, you

    can.

    John looks out of the window and the day is glorious.

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER, CONNORS' APARTMENT -- LATER

    JOHN hears KNOCKS on the door with the familiar cadence.

    JOHNCome in!

    TAWNYHey! How's your morning.

    JOHNHopeful. I was losing my faith abit. Sixteen months is a long time.

    TAWNYIt is hard for me to imagine. I'mnot that patient.

    JOHNNeither am I, but one learns.Cameron does her part, if Mia'sright.

    TAWNYMia's very smart. I am probably aspuzzled as you are. I may betterunderstand the girl aspect of it.

    JOHN(laughs)

    I admit, it's something completelyoff my scope.

    TAWNYI don't have as much time as Ithought. Jason's leaving at 2PMand I need to see Al before I go.

    JOHNMoss? He's Al now? What on earthhappened? He was your sworn enemy,or that was what you thought.

    JOHNOkay, I've got to go about myroutine, so you just join me,

    until you have to go.

    INT. ZEIRA CENTER CONNORS' APARTMENT -- TWO DAYS LATER.

    JOHN sits on a chair beside Cameron's bed. It's a warm day.John is reading a book, but it may be the fine printcombined with the elevated room temperature that forcesJohn's eyes closing.

    He fights the drowsiness for a while and then the bookfalls into his lap and his heads drops, his body isslumping a slight angle forward.

    EXT. BUSY CITY STREET -- DAY

    JOHN walks on the sidewalk, trying to weave his paththrough the crowd. The number of pedestrians is so largethat John wonders where they all came from.

    JOHN (V.O.)Maybe it's the warm day. Everyonewants to be out.

    A man in his forties hits him with his body into hisshoulder, almost turning him by a right angle. The man justcontinues as if nothing happened. John is a bit miffed

    about the man's rudeness, but then John turns back on hisoriginal trajectory. John looks at his watch, but it seemsthat it stopped. He put's the watch toward his ear, but thedin of the crowd drowns any faint sound of the clockwork hewould hear.

    JOHN (V.O.) (CONT'D)Where am I going? Pier 1. Damn,I'll be late.

    John speed up a bit, but his right side is hurting hetouches it with his hand and looks at the hand. It'sbloody. He slows down, he can't catch his breath. Hetouches his side again and the bleeding seems to stop--hishand is clean this time. John looks at his watch again.It's now two hours later. The watch hands are stuck asbefore. He shakes his wrist, but the hands don't move.

    JOHN (V.O.) (CONT'D)I don't even know what time it is.Where is she?

    JOHNCameron! You are up!

    Tears are streaming over his face. He does not know howthey got there.

    CAMERON

    John, what's wrong with me?

    John bends down slightly, kissing Cameron on her forehead.

    JOHNYou have no idea how glad I amthat you're up!

    Cameron smiles, but then her face displays confusion.

    CAMERONJohn, I think I died, didn't I?

    JOHNYes, do you remember?

    CAMERONIt's not clear, I'm not sure howit happened. But I'm different. Idon't know... I feel different.Where's my system display? I can'taccess it!

    JOHNCameron, I'm not sure how to...Haven't though of what happens

    when I get you back.

    Cameron is studying her arms and then touches her face.

    CAMERONI don't understand.

    JOHNI need to make a call. Don'tworry, it will... you'll know.

    CAMERONJohn, my body feels different,what happened to me?

    JOHNCameron, please be patient. You'llknow, soon.

    CAMERONOkay, I just don't know why I feelso different.
