Eric was sitting in cooking class thinking “I cant cook.” He was also thinking about what food he was going to make in the required cooking contest Mrs. Gutziack's cooking class was having.

While Eric was thinking Mrs. Gutziack came up and said “What are you making for our contest Eric?” “ I don't know” Eric replied. “Well you must make somthing” Mrs.Gutziack said as she walked away.

Just then the class bully Darren came up and announced in Eric's face “I will be the one who wins the contest and you cant do any thing about it.”

When Eric was walking home he thought “that Darren is mean and who says I cant beat him in the contest.”

When Eric got home he decided to make his moms famous banana bread, so he prepared it and put it in the oven.

Finally it was ready but when Eric saw it he felt horrible. The bread was burnt in every spot you could imagine, so he gave up.

At school Mrs. Gutziack asked the same question she did yesterday and Eric said “I tried to make bread but it burnt so I gave up” “ you cant give up it will just make things worse.”

Eric thought about what Mrs Gutziack said so when he got home he but a new batch of bread in the oven.

Waiting for the the bread to be done felt like ages until finally....

...It was ready.

Eric took the bread to school the next day trying to visualize him holing the blue ribbon but he couldn't.

Everyone voted on there favorite dish, and you feel the tension in the air as people hoped their dish would win.

The votes were finally in and who won Eric couldn't believe. It was himself! Everyone could hear Darren's loud “DANG” in the back.

As Eric held his ribbon he finally felt that

all the time and patience had paid off.
