Keeping Ecton tidyAs you know Ian, Wendy & Friends have done a fantastic job tidying up andclearing gutters etc. However we still have major problems in Lower Ecton Lanewhich seem to be worsening. We would like to try and blitz the area between the village and the pump stationwith the help of NORSE.We need some strong willing volunteers to help. If you could spare some time tohelp improve our environment please let Wendy (07986 557773) or Sally (07850416429) know and we can arrange clear-up gangs.

Ecton WalksA number of people have expressed an interest in joining a regular walking group toexplore the local footpaths and byways. As I am retiring in a few weeks I am happyto organise these walks. There are a number of people who love walking but are not dog lovers so many ofthese walks will be ‘dog free’. Wednesdays appear to be the best days and we’llprobably aim for two walks in a month.
The next walk will be on 12th April for a fivemile walk (dog free). We are walking toSywell Country Park so there are options forthose who would prefer a shorter walk. There are toilets and a coffee shop.
Meet at the shrine for a 10am start.
Next walk planned for 26th April (includingwell behaved dogs on leads)

Rector’s Letter April 2017
May the God of hope fill you withall joy and peace in believing,
so that by the power of the Holy Spirityou may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
This year’s Easter card, detailing the services in the benefice, has on it a picture of thecross in front of the rising sun. The design includes the use of wax, acrylic and, surprisingly, a photo of a bin liner, creatively formed to depict Golgotha, the place ofJesus’ crucifixion. The caption is “New Life – New Hope” and the creative use of thebin liner reminds us that there is always the potential for new life and new hope in theworld.Hope helps us when times are hard times and lifts our spirits to see beyond ourpresent problems, be they personal, local or global. For Christians, the death andresurrection of Jesus are the foundation of our hope and the Easter story offers us all anew beginning, where new life can spring from the old. A new life that begins whenwe accept Jesus as our saviour. We have several services in the lead up to Easter, detailed in the card which youshould have received through your door. Please do join us for as many as you can, details can also be found in this magazine. The Communion service at 10am onEaster Day will be a service of celebration, with the church beautifully decorated andthe sound of Alleluia! resounding round the building. Please do join us.May I wish you all a very happy and hope filled Easter,Yours in Christ,Revd. Jackie Buck

Message sent bySusan Fletcher (Police, Crime Prevention Support Officer, Northamptonshire)Homeowners in Northamptonshire are being encouraged not to buy goods or servicesfrom cold-callers after a spate of complaints about suspected rogue traders. The recent warmer weather has resulted in a number of calls to Northamptonshire CountyCouncil’s Trading Standards from people who have been offered maintenance work ontheir property by doorstep traders.
Some of the complaints received relate to cold-callers who have offered roofing workwhich has been unnecessary and over-priced, and the householders, who are often elderly, have said they felt pressured to hand over cash payments. In one case, the elderly couple handed over £1,000 and no work has been completed. On anumber of occasions, the rogue traders told the householders that they have been workingon a neighbour’s roof and noticed that work needed doing on theirs, which was found tobe untrue.Trading Standards are advising people never to buy goods or services from a cold-calleron their doorstep, even if it is claimed the work needs doing immediately.Instead, homeowners can find a Trading Standards-approved trader to carry out any workthrough its Buy with Confidence scheme.County council cabinet member for member for public protection, strategic infrastructureand economic growth Cllr Andre Gonzalez de Savage said: “Unfortunately the recent mildweather seems to have sparked a spate of suspected rogue traders who are cold-calling onelderly and vulnerable residents to try to pressure them into unnecessary work on theirhome at an inflated cost.
“All too often, this work is never completed or carried out to a poor standard.
“Our advice is clear – do not pay for goods or services from a doorstep trader. If you doneed work carrying out, Our Buy With Confidence scheme will help you to find a reputabletradesman who has been approved by Trading Standards.”
Further information about the Buy With Confidence scheme can be found atwww.northamptonshire.gov.uk/approvedtraders or call 0300 126 1000
Northamptonshire County Council, in partnership with Northamptonshire Police, can alsoprovide No Cold Calling stickers for residents and their neighbours. These are available bycalling 01604 368100.
If you are concerned about a caller at your door or suspect that rogue traders ordistraction burglars are operating in your community, contact the dedicated Doorstepcrime Action Network (DAN) on 0345 23 07 702, or if a crime is in progress, dial 999.
