Kootenay cooperation! The West Arm Outdoors Club (WAOC) has been working on build-ing a fishing platform just east of downtown Procter - across from the Balfour ferry terminal - for over five years. This is in close proximity to where Nelson Hydro is run-ning their line as part of the Outlet area upgrades. Did You Know? Since 1994, donors like you have donated $1,289,735.78 to keep the Operating Room at Kootenay Lake Hospital furnished with state of the art medical equipment.
This year we are asking for your help to purchase a new Surgical Table for the Operating Room. It’s used for almost every proce-dure we perform, and is the most important piece of equipment in the OR. Please visit www.klhf.org for more information, and to make your secure donation online.
The bc Environmental Assessment office advised the proponents of the controversial Jumbo Glacier resort that the building footprints installed last fall are in violation of the proj-ect’s environmental certificate. In a letter to oberto oberti dated April 24, Manager of compliance Autumn cousins ordered that all construction activity cease unless the proponent is successful in applying for an amend-ment to the Environmental certificate. An independent analysis of avalanche risk found that the two floating sub-
floors constructed in october 2014 are partially or entirely within areas with medium to high risk of avalanche.
Although the developer says the risks can be mitigated, the environ-mental certificate states that all build-ing must be outside of the hazard area and does not address mitigation. The EAo’s compliance letter suggests that the proponent can apply for an amendment to the certificate to allow buildings in the hazard area with appropriate mitigation.

Nelson Police ReportsBear incident
On April 28, at approximately 10:41 pm, the Nelson police Department received a request for service in the Uphill area due to a bear breaking into a residential garbage can holder. The Nelson police Department would like to remind the public that this is the time for bears to be looking for food and to ensure that garbage, compost and waste products are disposed of in a secure manner to avoid any possible confron-tations with wildlife. If you see a bear in your area, please contact the Nelson police Department at (250) 354-3919 or the rApp hotline at 1-877-952-7277 or online at www.rapp.bc.ca.
Two public intoxication arrestsOn April 29, at approximately
10:55 a.m., the Nelson police Department received a request for service in the 100 block of silica street for an intoxicated male yelling and swearing at people in the area. Upon police arrival, the intoxi-cated male was taken into custody and was found to be breaching conditions of his release. The male was remanded into custody for court and is facing one charge of breach of Undertaking.
On April 27, at approximately 4:20 pm, the Nelson police Department received a request for service in the 600 block of highway 3A for an intoxicated male yelling, swearing, and exposing himself to traffic. Upon police arriv-al, the intoxicated male was taken into custody and later released when sober. The male was released on conditions
and police are recommending charges of causing a Disturbance.
Fake gun brandishedOn Saturday, April 25 at 4 p.m. the
Nelson police were called and advised a male was pointing a firearm in the 400 block Ward st. The caller believed the gun was an “airsoft” and not a real one. NpD members attended and found a 35 year old local male, known to them, standing on the sidewalk with what looked to be a revolver in hand. he saw the police and quickly concealed it in a pocket. Members took him into custody without incident and quickly confirmed the caller was correct in that the revolv-er, fortunately, was not a real one. The male was transported to NpD office and will face charges relating to the replica firearm and breaching condition of an order he was under already.
Theft from homeOn Wednesday, April 22 a local
family arrived back from an extended vacation to find their home broken into. It appears the culprits discovered the unoccupied home and used it as a flop house. While there the culprits searched the home, stealing jewelry and precious metals. The Nelson police Department along with the rcMp forensic identification unit are inves-tigating. If you have any information that might assist in identifying the culprits or recovering the stolen items please call crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or cst hannah at the Nelson police Department 250-354-3919.
Car break-insrecently there has been a rash of
thefts from cars in Nelson. It appears culprits are targeting unlocked vehicles all over Nelson and stealing change, Gps’s, satellite radios, and any other easily transportable items that have some value.
please remember the following when parking your car for the night: lock All of your vehicle’s doors: This is true even if you plan on only being gone for “just a second”. remember, it only takes seconds to steal items from your car. It’s not uncommon, for thieves to walk down a row of parked vehicles, looking for unlocked doors. Also, make sure car windows aren’t left open.

medication has become a public safety issue for communities and police servic-es across the country, who are working together to draw attention to this public safety concern by participating in the prescription Drug Drop off Day.
people’s, remedy’s, shoppers, Walmart and pharmasave will accept
unwanted or expired medications to keep them away from individuals for whom they were never intended.

As we grow and change we often lose touch with those we care about and those we
associate ourselves with. As much as we’d like to keep in touch, soon-er or later you are bound to lose a
few friends this way.keeping in touch can be difficult
but if someone is very important to you. you need to put in the effort to do so. With advancements in technology this is now easier then ever. you can also choose to even
write a letter if you feel the need.like many of you I have grown
away from many people I value dearly and it still iritates me to this day. you have the power to keep in touch, the question is whether or not you do so.
