THE LIP F 4.10 It is wild to think that we are on the brink of Summer 20TEN here at SWITCH, and as we prepare for summer, spring has sprung. This means yard work, spring cleaning, daylight savings, proms, midterms, picnics, and graduation. With so many things going on this spring/summer, here are a couple of things that I’d like for you to pay special attention to: ONE: STUDENT LED SUNDAY, May 2 nd SWITCH Students will take over BBC on May 2 nd ! Our students will lead not only our Connect Groups but also both morning worship services. Every student will plug in and help lead our church in ministry for this special day of service and worship. You’ll want to make sure your student is part of this special day. TWO: SENIOR SUNDAY, May 2 nd As part of our Student Led Sunday, we will also recognize graduating seniors and their parents during the 10:50AM service. Following the service, our seniors and their families are encouraged to attend a lunch- eon co-hosted by our college ministry. Families that wish to participate need to RSVP for the luncheon. We also need photos for our Senior Video. Call the SWITCH office for more information. THREE: SUMMER CAMP, July 13-17 As of this mailing, we have just over 80 students signed up for camp! God is so good to send us over 25% more than last year’s sign up. We’re hoping to take 100, so if your child or their friends would like to go to Gulf Shores for camp this summer with Student Life, please call the SWITCH office before spaces run out! FOUR: GOD IS AT WORK We had well over 100 attend SUPER SWITCH SERVICE on March 10, with 8 decisions being made for Christ! We also launched our Girl’s Ministry Mentoring Program and have 30 girls and women participat- ing this semester, and dozens of students have served or are serving through Buckets of Hope to Haiti, the Easter Egg Hunt, and SWITCH Serve Trips this summer. God is at work in our ministry! I hope you’ll find the rest of the FLIP helpful as you parent your teen and partner in ministry with us this spring and summer. Remember, if you’re receiving this newsletter in print, you can help us save money and have the convenience of our FLIP E-NEWSLETTER by sending us a request for an electronic format to stu- [email protected] . THE LIP F

4.10 It is wild to think that we are on the brink of Summer 20TEN here at SWITCH, and as we prepare for summer,

spring has sprung. This means yard work, spring cleaning, daylight savings, proms, midterms, picnics, and

graduation. With so many things going on this spring/summer, here are a couple of things that I’d like for you to

pay special attention to:

ONE: STUDENT LED SUNDAY, May 2nd

SWITCH Students will take over BBC on May 2nd

! Our students will lead not only our Connect Groups but

also both morning worship services. Every student will plug in and help lead our church in ministry for

this special day of service and worship. You’ll want to make sure your student is part of this special day.

TWO: SENIOR SUNDAY, May 2nd

As part of our Student Led Sunday, we will also recognize graduating seniors and their parents during the

10:50AM service. Following the service, our seniors and their families are encouraged to attend a lunch-

eon co-hosted by our college ministry. Families that wish to participate need to RSVP for the luncheon.

We also need photos for our Senior Video. Call the SWITCH office for more information.

THREE: SUMMER CAMP, July 13-17

As of this mailing, we have just over 80 students signed up for camp! God is so good to send us over

25% more than last year’s sign up. We’re hoping to take 100, so if your child or their friends would like to

go to Gulf Shores for camp this summer with Student Life, please call the SWITCH office before spaces run

out!

FOUR: GOD IS AT WORK

We had well over 100 attend SUPER SWITCH SERVICE on March 10, with 8 decisions being made for

Christ! We also launched our Girl’s Ministry Mentoring Program and have 30 girls and women participat-

ing this semester, and dozens of students have served or are serving through Buckets of Hope to Haiti,

the Easter Egg Hunt, and SWITCH Serve Trips this summer. God is at work in our ministry!

I hope you’ll find the rest of the FLIP helpful as you parent your teen and partner in ministry with us this spring

and summer. Remember, if you’re receiving this newsletter in print, you can help us save money and have the

JUSTIN BIEBER

This guy’s name induces squeals

from girls all over the world,

especially the younger ones. J-14,

a popular teen magazine filled with

pictures and gossip about young

celebrities, named him the Hottest

Star of 2009. But what’s the story

behind this 16-year old singing

sensation?

In 2007, Bieber, a native Canadian,

started posting videos of himself

singing on YouTube. These videos

became wildly popular and eventu-

ally caught the interest of his

current manager. The manager

introduced him to Usher, who

signed Bieber to his recording com-

pany. Bieber’s first full album was

released in March, and his first tour

begins this summer.

SOS114: June20-25

for our trip to the SOS ministry in Orange Mound!

Students will spend the week roofing a home in the

Orange Mound area, sharing Christ with neighbors, and

supporting Orange Mound Outreach Center. The cost

for the event is $200, and the sign-up deadline is May 9.

Impact: July 27-31

Seventh and eighth grade students will serve with

Impact Baptist Church and Impact Ministries in Frayser

this summer. They’ll participate in Backyard Bible Clubs,

street reach, food pantry ministry, and other service

projects. The cost is $75 and includes all food,

transportation, ministry supplies, and a t-shirt. Sign up

deadline is May 9!

Culture CluesCulture CluesCulture CluesCulture Clues Chatroulette: Hotter Than YouTube

Have you heard of Chatroulette? If not, you should read up, because you can bet your teenager has.

Chatroulette is the newest fad in meeting people online. All you need is a Web cam and an Internet connection, and you can meet anyone, anywhere in the world.

The video chat site is open to all, and the only security measure is that if a person is reported three times for inappropriate behavior, they are kicked off the site for ten minutes.

According to Brian Braiker (ABCNews), the site is used predominantly by males and youth. Braiker, a 35-year old, said he was “old enough to qualify for AARP on Chatroulette.”

To learn more about Chatroulette, visit www.lifeway.com/girlsministry (March 17 entry) or read Brian Braiker’s story here.
