Big animals eat plants.Little animals eat plants. They are called plant eaters.

These animals eat other animals. They are called meat eaters.Some animals eat both plants and meat.

Animals eat plants. Then, other animals eat the animals that eat plants.

This is called a food chain.

Its seven links are linked one to another.

Food chains start with plants.Plants grow tall in the sunlight.They grow big and green.

The fish eats the frog .The fish grows bigger.

The first link is the grasshopper eating the plant.

THE FOOD CHAINCOMENTARIOS SOBRE LA CORRECCIÓN Y LOS RESULTADOS DE LA MUESTRA

4 centros participaron en la muestra. 8 clases y 142 alumnosEl texto les resulta difícil en líneas generales, ya sea por el vocabulario, los tecnicismos, la falta de lectura de este tipo de textos, la falta de conocimientos de este tema en L1, u otras razones. Hay diferencias considerables entre centros.

1. What does the food chain start with? Busca identificar información explícita. La pregunta parece ser adecuada. La repuesta se repite en diferentes sitios y tiene apoyos gráficos. Puede haber alumnos que no entiendan la pregunta.Responden bien el 66% de los alumnos.

2. Plants make their own food with….. Han de responder recogiendo 4 elementos citados expresamente en el texto. En general las respuestas abiertas les resultan difíciles aunque sólo tengan que seleccionar y copiar información. Añade dificultad a esto el que se les pidan varias cosas, porque tienden a centrar su atención en una, dos o tres. Cada componente citado se valora 0,50. Responden bien el 30%.

3. Read the following sentence, “The plant grows in the sunlight” and say which of the following sentences uses the same meaning for “plant” as the example sentence? La pregunta se basa en la multiplicidad semántica de las palabras. Quizás les resulte novedoso.Responden bien el 34.5%.

4. What plants do you eat? (2 at least) Pocos contestan, quizá porque se inhiben ante la necesidad de decirlo en inglés. Quizás la pregunta debiera haberse formulado de otra forma. Hay algún alumno que opta por contestar en castellano. El punto se reparte en función de si escriben 1, ó 2. “Salad” es para algunos ejemplo de “plants” .Responden bien el 40.5%.

En el examen revisado se reformula la pregunta.

5. Are you a link in the food chain? Hay que realizar una generalización y es una tarea que les resulta costosa. Aunque el término “link” aparece contextualizado e ilustrado en el texto, no han sido capaces de interpretarlo y asimilarlo.Responden bien el 27%.

6. What animals in the text eat other animals? (3 at least) Esta pregunta resulta confusa porque algunos entienden por texto también las ilustraciones y enumeran algunos de los animales carnívoros de las ilustraciones. Otros se refieren al texto, pero no citan tres (suelen excluir a los seres humanos). Hay por tanto que realizar una pequeña inferencia. Responden bien el 49%.

En el examen revisado se especifica: “written text”

7. Which of the following sentences is the one we use? No parecen tener referencias para responder. Quizás se trate de usos idiomáticos a los que no están acostumbrados. Responden bien el 25%.

En el examen revisado se sustituye esta pregunta por otra distinta.

8. Are birds part of the food chain? Implica una generalización o inferencia.Responden bien el 52%.

9. Would you like to be a plant in the food chain? Why? Se daba por buena cualquier respuesta que demostrara comprensión del texto, muy pocos responden. En realidad la respuestas tiene dos partes: 1) “YES” or “NO” y 2) una frase de razonamiento. Conviene se den cuenta de que hay preguntas de este tipo y que tienen que aprender a dar razones que podrán basarse en la lógica del texto, o ser meramente subjetivas o imaginativas Responden bien el 12% (algunos parcialmente)

En esta serie de preguntas han de responder verdadero/falso, pero las falsas deben ser corregidas introduciendo pequeñas transformaciones de tipo morfológico. Muy pocos abordan la corrección. Se otorga un punto a la respuesta adecuada y otro a la corrección, si la hubiere y hubiera sido bien hecha.

En el examen revisado se reformula la pregunta.

Cambiar o reformular frases que son falsas respecto a lo que dice un texto, es una tarea de escritura relativamente asequible y muy recomendable. Se puede practicar como si fuera un juego, en torno a los textos que se lean en clase.La transformación puede suponer modificaciones simples de tipo morfológico o sintáctico
