Please Take a break!

Summer is a season that is so short, to the extent that

days and weeks may roll by so quickly before we know it. The Lord

has blessed us with a pleasant weather even with some hot days.

Many have started their trips to various places of attractions and

pilgrimages to the Holy Land as well as visits to other places of

Christian tradition. Possibly, some have been saving towards the

journey for a while to accomplish this, their hearts desire.

Some Families are taking a break from the regular chores to visit

relatives they have not seen for few years. This is great! Enjoy

yourselves, and catch your fun! You deserve it! May the Lord grant

you his protection from all accidents and bring you back safely

through Christ our Lord. Amen!

As we think about ourselves and how best we can use the season

to our advantage, let us use the season to heal wounds of broken

relationships. As we take our vacation, we can use some time to

reach out to people who need our mercy and forgiveness for

reconciliation and peace. We can travel in this weather without

any concern for an inclement weather. We can take the peace of

Christ to their door steps and jointly walk together into the warm

embrace of God's love. We are not to wait at home for those who

have wronged us, but we are to go out and visit them. God took

the initiative to visit us in his son, in order to give us his gifts of

mercy and forgiveness thereby reconciling us to himself.

What about our family members, relations and friends who are so

lonely in the retirement and nursing homes, and other facilities of

care. They keep vigil at the entrance doors everyday waiting for us

to show up at the door to say hello to them with a comforting

smile. This is a good time to put an end to procrastination. May the

Lord enrich us with his abundant grace to glorify him with our life.

Amen.

Fr. Augustine

Spirituality

We are created in the image of God. As a result, there is a deep desire implanted in our hearts that prompts us to come back to the whole, to be with God. At the same time, God draws us to Himself. Throughout the history many people tried to un-derstand what they believe in, they asked questions about God, and they turned their lives into a quest for holiness.

The quest starts with the discovery of a desire for God in ourselves, which was already planted in our hearts when God created us. The lives of saints can be our guides on our spiritual journey. For example, St. Anthony points out that we need to find a deserted place in our own lives in order to move into deeper spiritual life. St. Teresa of Avila takes us on a spiritual journey that is the interior path of prayer. According to her teaching prayer is the vehicle for the soul’s deepening union with God. When the journey begins we first need to notice different obstacles, weaknesses, and sins that hold us from going deeper in the union. The life of St. Augustine is a good example of conversion and recognizing our roots sins. We need to admit that we struggle, that there are tendencies in us to sin, but at the same time, we also have to realize the importance of allowing God to take over our lives. St. John of the Cross points to us the “dark nights” of spirits and senses that we are going to experience in order to discover the inner freedom from physical and emotional desires. He calls these moments a dark night because of the suffering that is involved. Suffering is one of the experiences in our lives where true love has its roots. St. Therese of Lisieux is a good example of it. Since her childhood she had to deal with losses, first, her mother passing away, then the sister that was her “second mother” leaving the house to become a nun, and finally her dad passing away after suffering dementia. Even, when she finally entered the Carmelite Convent, she had to put up with a lot of mistreatment; however, that never stopped her from loving God and others.

The lives of the saints are full of tips and suggestions that we can follow. The common message is that it is God’s love that put us in the world in the first place, and if we let Him into our lives, he will transform our hearts. Love will become the drive for our lives.

Merlin Walking Pilgrimage - Bishops Fabro and Dabrowski invite the faithful to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption

of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary in Merlin on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Bishop Fabbro will celebrate Mass at 11 o’clock, followed by lunch. Prior to the Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will

be offered. After lunch, a Rosary Procession will take place, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 2:15 pm.

Parishes are invited to organize a pilgrimage to this celebration. The faithful can also join a walking pilgrimage to the Shrine. There

will be two starting points for the pilgrimage; a 10 km walk will depart from the North Buxton Museum at 8:00 am, and a 5 km walk

will depart from the Merlin Community Hall at 9:00 am. Parishes are encouraged to organize a car or bus pool of pilgrims and join

one of the two departure locations. Pilgrims arriving by car will be able to park their vehicles at these locations and volunteers will be

available after the days celebrations to drive the pilgrims back to the parking lots. A diocesan representative will be at each of the

two departure points and will lead the pilgrims to the Shrine. Pilgrims are welcome to bring their own lunches, or purchase a

hamburger or hotdog from the Knights of Columbus for a small fee. It is not necessary to register for this celebration.
