Love These things I
have spoken to
you, that
My joy may
remain in you,
and that
your joy may be
full.
This is My
commandment,
that you love one
another as I have
loved you.
Greater love has
no one than this,
than to lay down
one’s life for
friends.

From the Pastor’s Desk,
In preparing for the season of Lent, I was looking over my notes from last years’ Lenten
Sermon Series on John Wesley’s Three Simple Rules: Do No Harm, Do Good, and Stay in
Love with God. Good guidelines for anyone at any time… but especially, it occurred to me,
for us; a Church and Pastor in transition. What really caught my eye for Lent was the
admonition to “Do Good!”
During Lent, we rightfully focus on themes and disciplines of self-denial, preparation,
and prayerfulness in order to better contemplate, understand, and experience THE EASTER
EVENT – THE RESURRECTION… but the thought that struck me was; what… If we do
nothing else during the seven weeks of Lent… we focus on doing good??? Let us DO
GOOD!
Step out of you comfort zone… make that call (you’ve been putting off)… give words
of support and encouragement… forgive someone (for that stupid thing, that happened so
recently, or so long ago that you have been carrying around)… share (whatever your talent
is)… take the chance… break the ice… be the person you wish the other person would
be… LOVE!
… I have learned… that I have an awful lot yet to learn. But, I do know that people
love a warm hug and a pat on the back… that people will forget what you said, but never
what you did, and most of all, like me, like you… will never forget how you made them
feel.”
God Bless,
See you in church!
Pastor Gil
P.S … I have learned… that I have an awful lot yet to learn. But, I do know that people
love a warm hug and a pat on the back… that people will forget what you said, but never
what you did, and most of all, like me, like you… will never forget how you made them
feel.”

From the NE District: Christ Servant Ministry Training
Once again, the basic course for the Local Church Servant certification will be offered at Asbury UMC on Friday evening, March 16 and Saturday, March 17. TOOLS FOR MINISTRY This year's Tool for Ministry, on Saturday, March 3, at
Asbury UMC in Allentown, will be organized to provide
support for each area of the life of a disciple and the related
goals churches set as part of the Vital Congregations
Initiative. The Call to Action reminded us that disciples
worship (worship attendance), disciples make disciples
(number of professions of faith), disciples are intentional
about growing their faith (number of small groups), disciples
serve in ministry (number of people involved in mission), and
disciples generously support mission (dollars given by the
church in mission and benevolence giving, including dollars
paid in apportionments).
Workshops will be offered to help churches work
towards meeting and exceeding the goals they set. We'll
also have workshops on strategic planning to help in
creating plans to achieve the goals you set, and in
leadership development. Rev. Yocum will lead two PPR/
SPR workshops - one on general information and one on
developing a covenant with your pastor.
Easter Lilies March 25 will be the last day to order
Easter Lilies. The cost will be $10.00
each. Look for more information in the
Bulletins.
Background Checks As you are aware, the Safe Sanctuaries Policy of AUMC and the
Eastern PA Conference require all adults, 18 and over to undergo a Criminal Background Check, and a Child Abuse Background Check, and have them updated every three years. We will be updating all background checks in April. If you need background checks, or know of someone who might, please email their name(s) to Pastor Gil or Bonnie Commins on [email protected] by March 15th. The Pastor will mail a letter to all concerned, outline the process, answer FAQs, and be available for any individual concerns or issues.
AUMC to Receive New Pastor! Bishop Peggy Johnson announces the appointment of the
Rev. Monica Guepet to Ackermanville United Methodist Church
in the Northeast District, effective July 1, 2012. Rev. Guepet is
currently the pastor of St. Paul’s UMC in Hellertown, where she
has helped the church to grow and to develop a cooperative
relationship with two other United Methodist Churches in the
Bethlehem area. She is a graduate of Penn State University, with
a degree in Religious Studies and a minor in Classical and
Ancient Mediterranean Studies. She will receive her M.Div.
degree from Moravian Seminary in May. Prior to her
appointment to St. Paul’s, she served at Lehman Memorial
United Methodist Church in Hatboro, first as Director of
Christian Education and then, after her licensing, as Pastor of
Christian Education. She is a member of the Northeast District
Committee on Youth and Young Adult Ministry. She is married
to Steve, and they are the parents of Alisabeth and Felicity. Rev.
Guepet, who enjoys sacred dance, was joined by her daughter,
Felicity, in leading the procession for opening worship at last
year’s annual conference.
(Monica is a very good and competent pastor, and her
appointment here bodes well for AUMC. Watch for updates and
more information in upcoming issues of the “Friendly
Flyer.” ( Pastor Gil)
Welcome Kyle Clark Sussick, born
to Holly & Joel Sussick on February 6th.
Porter is such a proud “big brother!”
Kyle has already been to church and
apparently was born knowing how to
behave like a gentleman in church… Not
a peep, although he does sleep through
the sermon!
