Tazer News:
Giveaway Reminder: Due to
last months late edition of The
Gamer Gazette, we have
extended the giveaway closing
date to 9/9/2014 so don’t
forget to head over to
www.TazerCG.com and find
the “Prizes” page for details on
how to enter!
Transferring “TazerCG” to
“Tazer Community Gaming –
Vlogs”: This month we made
the really hard decision to
move our old channel that has
been with us for the last 2
years to a brand new channel.
Why? Because we wanted both
of our channels partnered with
Freedom! And it wasn’t
possible for that to have as the
AdSense account linked with
our old account had been
disabled. For more
information, please check out
the video on the “TazerCG”
channel called “We’re
Moving”.
Twitch Bought By Amazon: Up
until no everyone had been
pretty certain that Google
were in the process of taking
over Twitch.TV. So certain that
to most people it was already
fact. However, this week it was
announced by the CEO of
Twitch in a blog post that they
had decided to accept a
different offer for the
website...from Amazon!? What
does this mean for the future
of the website? We have no
idea, but it certainly was an
unexpected decision that
shook the gaming community
this week! For more info, check
out our video on the new
vlogging channel called “Twitch
and Amazon? AKA
Twitazon.com!”
The Forest
By Nathan Scullard
This game has had me captivated since the
first time I saw Pewdiepie play it, but
wanting to try it out for myself, I contacted
Endnight Games, the developer of the game
and asked for a review copy.
Here at Tazer, we have a system for whom
gets what games when we get free copies
to review,
that way it
works out
fair for
everyone,
but I have
to admit
that when
this one
came
across my
desk I did
pull rank to make sure I got it. (Tee Hee)
I was really excited to play the game, and
rushed straight on and did the video for the
channel just so I could go ahead and try the
game out. But I’ll be honest and say that I
was actually really disappointed in what I
saw.
Now, I know that the game is Early Access,
hence the title for this month’s issue, but at
the same time I think I was expecting more.
I remember the first time I played it I
jumped out of the planes to be met by a
native rummaging through the passenger’s
luggage. And having seen Pewds play the
game and not get killed “too” often, I
assumed I would be able to handle one
single native
with the axe I
found on the
plane. So I
walked up to
him and was
like “Hello
there.”
Thinking it
would be
funny, and
then
proceeded to get beaten to a bloody pulp
by the unarmed half naked man!
Ah, ok...I’ll be more careful next time, I
thought. Well no matter how hard I tried to
be smart around the natives, I still managed
to get battered to death all the time. The
longest amount of time I spent alive was
when I hiked out of the forest to the shore
of a river, which had some very
questionable physics, and huddled around
my half built lean-to shelter and cigarette
lighter in the pitch black. I nearly froze to
death, so I decided to head back to the
forest (in the dark) to collect some sticks for
a fire, and got battered to death by a
native...ARGHHHH!!!! RAGE!
And since
then, I
haven’t
picked up
the game
at all. That
is until I
realised
that I had
to do a
written
review on
it too.
This time though, the game had been
updated and a lot of new stuff had been
added, including sharks and houseboats!
Great, I thought, something else that can
kill me!
But I was still determined to learn from my
mistakes and build a functioning dwelling
away from the dangerous natives and the
hungry sharks. And I am happy to report, I
actually succeeded! Yay me!
I managed to build a whole set of the
shelters including a whole and completed
log cabin! I had traps, log storage and a
decent fire. Better yet, the spot I picked was
hidden enough away that the natives didn’t
know I was there, so they just left me
alone!
And then the game got updated...sigh. Now
the reason for the sigh there is that every
time the game gets updated, you have to
start again from scratch, which as you can
imagine is very frustrating in a game which
takes real time and a lot of effort to scrape
together
even the
smallest of
shelters,
so when
the game
gets
updated
and the
palace (by
palace I
mean the
tent made
of stick, hey, it’s a game that makes you
appreciated the small things in life!) you
built gets deleted and you start over, it’s
kind of debilitating.
This aside though, the game does still have
a few issues. It’s much better, but not
perfect. In my opinion, the biggest of these
issues are the natives themselves. Take for
instance the very first time I stepped off the
plane and got battered by the “unarmed
half-naked man.” He was unarmed and half-
naked...and I had an axe... but I died and
not him? The natives are far too powerful
and should die a lot easier than they do,
especially the unarmed ones. Don’t get me
wrong though, I get that they have probably
be toughened through generations of living
in the wild, but I still believe that in a one
on one situation with an unarmed man and
one with an axe, the one with the axe
would come out on top 9 times out of 10!
The game is still a little glitchy too, whether
it’s water physics, instant kills for no reason
or animals that cook themselves for you on
the fire. But these sorts of things are to be
expected, the balancing of bad guys such as
the natives should be a really obvious thing
to change, but as yet I haven’t noticed a
difference in that since the first time I
played the game till now.
So here’s
the million
dollar
question...
“Is it worth
buying?”
Well, it all
depends
on what
you are
expecting
to get
from the game itself. If you want a game
that you can play now, then...NO! Don’t buy
it. It is as I have mentioned, an Early Access
game and is not finished, and that is all well
and good, but they could at least let you
keep the save files when they update.
That’s really annoying in this type of game
and just makes me want to wait until the
game is finished.
If you want a game you can have a bit of a
laugh and dick about on, then go ahead and
show your support for the game by buying a
copy, but just bear in mind that you will
most probably have to wait till the full game
comes out before you get any serious game
time out of this.
But I want to finish off on a high note,
because all glitches and unbalanced natives
aside, it is a game with potential, and I
eagerly await the finished product. I highly
expect it to be a very good game because
all the updates they have done so far have
massively improved the game each time
they’ve done them. So by the time it comes
out officially, I expect it to be EPIC!

Planet Explorers
By Nathan Scullard
Hmmm, now here is a game that I feel I
have gone full circle on. Part of the reason
why we do a video and then a written
review a bit later is because I like to give the
games chance to show us what they are
going to do in terms of updates, and as you
can imagine with
Early Access
games, updates
are a really
good way of
determining
what they game
is going to be
like when it
comes out.
If the developers make regular updates, and
you can see notable changes for the good
each time, then the chances are that the
game will be good when it is finally
released. However, if the developers don’t
update often or even if they do, but every
time they do you don’t notice anything
happening or things are getting worse. Then
you start to question the direction they are
taking the game in.
Let’s be honest here, buying ANY Early
Access game is a risk, as you’re buying an
unfinished game, meaning that it can still
change dramatically from the time you
bought it to
the time it’s
released.
When I first
looked at
Planet
Explorers, I
praised it a lot,
and I still
standby that praise, the game is very good
and shows a lot of potential. The key word
there was “potential” meaning that it’s not
there yet but I can’t see any reason why it
won’t get there. But I recently played the
game again since I made a video on it and
was very disappointed to see that nothing
had been updated, or at least nothing
noticeable.
In fact, the only change I noticed was that
previously you had been given the option to
use the mouse to move the camera or click
and hold a button on the mouse to move
the camera, has been removed??? The
option is still in the settings, but doesn’t
appear to work anymore?
Planet
Explorers is a
kind of
Minecraft
(yes I know
everything
gets referred
to as ‘like
Minecraft’
nowadays)
large world creation game. At the beginning
of the story, you’re trying to land on a
planet when your ship crash lands and you
have to scavenge for supplies, chop down
trees and dig for resources to craft things
that you need, such as spades, buckets and
weapons.
But after that, your tasks get a bit blurry,
you kind of left to your own devices, apart
from odd jobs given to you by other crew
members, it’s not really clear as to “what”
you’re supposed to be doing?
I’ve played a good few hours on this game
and am still none the wiser as to what the
finished game is going to entail. I know you
have to build, gather supplies and resources
and just generally survive, but is that it?
Because if it if, I’ve got to be honest and
say, I’d rather play Minecraft.
The game looks awesome in terms of
environment, with huge open plains,
massive alien tree/structures and lots of
beasties roaming around the place, but like
I said, that appears to be it so far. And
without much in the way of update
improvements it’s hard to tell where this
game is going.
Is this going to
be it or is
there going to
be more of a
storyline? Are
we going to
explore other
planets or just
this one?
Because if we
are just going to explore this one, then
improvements NEED to be made to keep
people interested in playing it. You can’t
just have it Minecraft style and leave
people to their own devices, because like I
have already said, I’d rather play Minecraft.
In its current state, and once you have got
past the initial “this game looks cool, there
is so much to explore” it quickly get boring,
as so far (at least that I’ve seen) it’s just
more of the same over and over.
So in terms of whether I think this is a
worthwhile purchase at the moment, I’ve
got to say no. It still has all the potential
that I mentioned in the original video,
however, potential is not enough. We need
to be able to SEE improvements, and as yet,
we have not.
As always I will point out that this is an Early
Access game and is as such not finished. But
I still like to see a bit more coming out of
the updates and for the love of god, please
put the option to have the mouse move the
camera without clicking back in, made the
whole experience that much more
annoying!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. If
you enjoyed it, please take the time to
