Filled with the
HOLY SPIRIT
The Ghost: week 4
Acts 2:1-4Coming of the Holy Spirit
2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from
heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house
where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them
utterance.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them
utterance.
WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT?
“The way to approach this, it seems to me, is to remind ourselves that the Holy Spirit is a Person. The Holy Spirit
is not just an influence. So many seem to talk about being filled with the Spirit as if the Holy Spirit were some kind of liquid. They talk about having an ‘empty vessel’, an empty jug, and having the Spirit poured in. That is
entirely wrong because it forgets that the Holy Spirit is a Person. He is not a substance, not a liquid, and not a
power like electricity. We all tend to fall into this error. We even tend to refer to the Holy Spirit as ‘it’, forgetting that the Holy Spirit is the third Person in the blessed Holy
Trinity.”
The Holy Spirit gives us a taste of God’s kingdom right now.
Ephesians 1:1414 who is the guarantee of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the
praise of His glory.
DO WE HAVE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES TO BE FILLED WITH THE
SPIRIT?

the gift.

uttered.27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the
Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will
of God. NKJV

REMINDERS:
1. TONGUES AS A PERSONAL PRAYER LANGUAGE
1 Corinthians 14:2,4 “For he who speaks in a tongue
does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him;
however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries… He who speaks in a

2. TONGUES AS A GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
1 Corinthians 12:10b “…to another different kinds of
tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.”
1 Corinthians 14:5“I wish you all spoke with tongues,
but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with

SIX SIGN OF SPIRITUAL FILLED LIFE 1. There is a Sanctification2. There is a powerful presence3. There is a Intimate fellowship4.There is a real worship5.There is a Impacting testimony6. There is a True Expansion
Galatians 5:16-1716 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the
flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh;
and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that
you wish. NKJV
1 Corinthians 14:18-1918 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my
understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words
in a tongue. NKJV
WHEN YOU ARE DRUNK, YOU ARE UNDER THE INFLUENCE.
Ephesians 5:15-1815 See then that you walk circumspectly,
not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.17 Therefore do not be unwise, but
understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be
filled with the Spirit,
When a man is filled with the Spirit, he is under the influence of the Spirit.
C. S. Lewis pointed out, “…you can understand the nature of drunkenness when you are sober, not when you are drunk…”
But when we are under the influence of the Holy Spirit, that is when we best understand the nature of the Spirit
