(coming to a living room near you!) (coming to a living room near you!) (coming to a living room near you!) (coming to a living room near you!) Pastor Bo and a group of wonderful Whatcoat hosts invite you to join us one Sunday night in October or November from 6:45-8:15 for a time to get to know
each other better. Now that he’s settling in as Whatcoat’s pastor, Bo wants to spend some time together in a relaxed setting getting to
know each other better. You’ll have a chance to share your thoughts about what you like best about Whatcoat Church, what you hope will never change about Whatcoat, or what you would change, if you
could. The floor is yours, while our pastor takes note of every word!
At the close of the evening, Pastor Bo will share with everyone some of his testimony of following Jesus on a path that led from the Navy to ordination in the United Methodist Church.
Bob and Patti Contino kicked off this series of Coffee Table Conver-sations by hosting the first one at their home on September 20, and Chris Glenn hosted the second on September 27. Here is the schedule for the remaining evening gatherings in October and November: October 4th - at the home of Nancy Caswell October 18th– at the home of Charlie & Judi Heritage October 25th– at the home of Harry & Gale Thornbury November 1st– at the home of Mike & Kay Conaway November 8th– at the home of Kent & Heather Gladish November 15th– at the home of Tom & Margaret Cahall November 22nd– at the home of Kris Knarr (Continued on page 2)

Worldwide Communion will be celebrated on October 4, 2015 at Whatcoat
United Methodist Church. We will have combined service at 10:00AM and Holy Commun-
ion will be served by intinction. Communion is served this way during the contemporary
service each Sunday. Intinction is the practice during communion of partially dipping the
bread into the wine, so that both can be administered at the same time.
We are looking for people to help set the communion table each Sunday and to be
servers. If you feel led to participate in this ministry as a communion steward or server,
please contact Jane Maroon at 697-6828, Cathy Moore at 242-0029 or the church office at
697-7539. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of these positions.
(Continued from page 1) Sign up sheets for each evening will be available in the narthex/foyer before and after each worship service on Sunday, or you may contact the church of-fice.
When they met with Pastor Bo for the first time in February, our SPRT members asked him about his vision for Whatcoat. Although our pastor knows about his values and gifts for ministry leadership, he told the group that he intends to spend much of his first year learn-ing about our church and the surrounding community. This series of coffee table conversa-tions is an important part of that process, as well as meeting with small groups at the church, and conversations with leaders and members. By sharing what is most important to you about our faith community, you help our pastor and leadership discern how best to lev-erage the gifts God has given him to shape a vision of ministry together in the future.
Thanks to our gracious hosts, we have made a special and honored place for you! Plan to join us for an evening of celebration and sharing what God is doing among us at Whatcoat -
and help us follow God into a future of ministry within and beyond the walls of the church.
World Communion Sunday Around the World: Sharing the Bread of Life, Cup of Blessing
World Communion Sunday offers congregations a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, they remember that they are part of the whole body of believers. Whether shared in a grand cathedral, a mud hut, outside on a hilltop, in a meetinghouse, or in a storefront, Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith. Wanted: Choir Director
We are in the search process for hiring a new choir director at Whatcoat? Interested? Know some-one who might be? See our website or contact the church office for a job description. Send resumes to the church office or to [email protected]

United Methodist Men
The Whatcoat United Methodist Men held their September breakfast on the 13th of September 2015 so as not to interfere with the Labor Day weekend and it was well attended. Chefs Tim Lewicki and Will Leister made French toast, scrambled eggs and sausage. Ron Fraser and Landon Lewicki arranged and set the tables. Rev. “Bo” spoke briefly at the meeting and the group decided to have the next Spaghetti Dinner fund-raiser sometime in the first two weeks of March 2016- the final date will be chosen after checking in the community for competing events. Bill Maroon gave a short book review of the book Dark Wake, currently on the best seller list, which is an accurate account of the sinking of the Lusitania passenger ship prior to the outbreak of World War I.
The next Men’s Club breakfast will be at 0730, October 11th. Come out and join us.!
Whatcoat Women for Christ
WWfC held their first meeting of the year on Monday, September 14th. There was
a nice turnout of about 20 women. We were honored to have Vicki Gordy-Stith as our
first guest speaker. A business meeting was held and refreshments were enjoyed. Our
next meeting will be held the first Monday of October on the 5th (due to Columbus
Day). We look forward to having other speakers at future meetings. We look for-
ward to many of the Women of Whatcoat to join us!
A Bible Study Opportunity

love Max, come join our interactive study form 10-12:00
beginning on October 7th.

“Shoes 2 Share”
We will be collecng your new and used shoes of all kinds
through October 4 to benefit the "Shoes 2 Share Ministry" and the "
Water Step Organizaon". WaterStep is a non- profit organizaon
dedicated to bringing safe drinking water to children and families in water- scarce areas
all over the world. The global drinking water crisis is the world's most pressing health
emergency. Nearly a billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and every 20
seconds a child dies from waterborne illness. Shoes that can be
reworn are sold to an exporter and funds that are received help
bring clean water to those in need. Shoes that can't be reworn
are recycled. Shoes 2 Share provides footwear relief directly to
children and families in need. This allows individuals internaon-
ally and domescally to parcipate in school, church, sports,
work or just everyday protecon of the foot. Please place your
shoe donaons in the containers in the narthex.
Preschool Newsletter for October
The preschool children have been learning about school rules and who the new friends are in their class. We heard a bible lesson that tells them God knows each child by name and loves each one of them very much. The children are also learning about prayer in Sanctuary and in the classrooms at snack time. We will discuss Fire Safety and hope to see a firetruck and firefighters this month.
Keep the preschool in mind if you hear of any families looking for a learning experience for their child or grandchild. Parents tell us it is an affordable, loving, nurturing environment for their child. Your prayers lift us up and give us strength each and every day!
Our first “Kids’ Fun Night” will be October 23rd, 6-9pm. Any senior high school students who are willing to help with games and activities for the children should call the preschool office at 698-2108. It is a good way to receive community service hours.
Our Corbi’s Pizza and Cookie dough orders are due by the 9th. See Angel Stark if you have any questions. Please consider making a purchase. The products are delicious and the proceeds are used to fund the preschool program. We have 38 students enrolled in 5 classrooms.
God Bless, Lee Anne Jackson

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD NEWS FOR OCTOBER
Can you imagine a community center filled with over 8,000 empty boxes? Then imagine tens of thousands of toys, school supplies, coloring books, crayons, socks, tee shirts, hy-giene items, balls and jump ropes; so many wonderful gifts to delight a child. Now imagine yourself, friends, your children and/or grandchildren along with dozens of joy-filled, Christ-centered people fill-
ing those boxes. You can do more than imagine. You can be part of this amazing event. A public packing party for Operation Christmas Child will take place on Saturday October 24th at the Calvary Community Center on 1532 East Lebanon Road near Do-ver Air Force Base. The event opens at 8:00 AM but you can come at any time during the day and stay as long as you can. Lunch and snacks will be available for a donation. All you need to bring is your desire
to serve and your comfortable shoes (lots of walking). So much fun! Last year over 7,000 boxes were filled! This event is sponsored by the Central Delmar Operation Christmas Child group and is open to all in the community. For directions, see the following link: https://www.google.com/maps/place/1532+E+Lebanon+Rd,+Dover,+DE+19901/@39.120012,-75.501513,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x89c7631852b9c573:0xa5300f6c60da635c?hl=en Another Central Delmar OCC event will take place on Sunday, October 11th at Calvary Assembly of
God Church. Alex Nsengemana will be speaking at all three morning services: 8:30, 9:30 and 11. More than twenty years ago Alex was a young boy living in Rwanda during the horrific Rwandan geno-cide. He received a shoebox that truly changed his life, but there is so much more to his story. You will be moved and inspired as he tells the story of a simple gift. You may want to hear him speak either be-fore or after services at Whatcoat.
Here at Whatcoat Church we are busy getting organized for our very own Shoebox Packing Party which will take place on Saturday, November 21st in Fellowship Hall. Please save that date! We will have more information as we get closer to that date. The shoeboxes we’ve packed as a group and the shoeboxes you’ve packed at home will be dedicated at both services on Sunday, November 22nd. Whether you have packed boxes at home or in Fellowship Hall, you may want to add a note and photo to your box. We can
supply you with preprinted notes for children to complete and add to their box. If you include your address you might even receive a note from the child or family who received the box you packed. That would be so exciting! If you have any questions or concerns, Vickie, Judy and I would be only too happy to answer them or
find the answer. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse and there is a wealth of
information on-line at samaritanspurse.org/occ or by calling 1-800-353-5949. Please continue to sup-
port Operation Christmas Child with your prayers and your very generous donations. The target items
for October and November are scarfs, hats and gloves. Remember every shoebox is an opportunity for
a child to come to faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you, Whatcoat family, for living your faith in such a
meaningful way. Submitted by Marian Curry

Deaths: Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jane
Lafferty. Jane passed away on September 8, 2015 at the age of 92.
She was a life-long member of Whatcoat. Jane had been a faithful
member of our Whatcoat family even though she lived her last
few years in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. She had stayed in touch
with many of us with phone calls, cards, and even visited for
Florence’s 80th birthday (She shared her birthday with Kay, Ray
Dawson and Florence.)! Over the years she had been very
active with the women’s groups as well as having taught
Sunday School and was even the church secretary for a
bit. As Pastor Bo noted, Jane was a “pillar” of our family
here.
We pray that Jane’s family will be comforted with their
wonderful memories!

Dear Family and Friends,
I thank the Lord for the people that
He sends to love and care for me as
kind and gentle friends. I pray that
He will bless you for each thought-ful thing you’ve done for me since
June, when I fell and fractured the
left side of my body. I truly appre-ciate your wonderful expressions of love and other
acts of kindness during my recovery. This has been
a very difficult time for me but I am home now and,
once again, I am recovering from yet another fall– this time I broke my left arm and crushed my shoul-
der. The bright side of this is that I have wonderful
girls taking care of me twenty-four hours a day and I am very happy to be home again.
Of all the ways that gratitude and thanks can be ex-
pressed the little phrase “God Bless You” seems to say it best.
My Love and Blessings to All,
Florence

October is Pastor Appreciation Month.
Let’s take this opportunity to express to
Pastor Bo how much we appreciate him.
