The gospels give us beautiful portraits of Jesus. Today we see the friendship of Jesus with Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. It’s instructive in itself; Jesus is showing us that friendship is part of an authentically human life. The apostles are sometimes slow to catch on (aren’t we all at times), yet Thomas is willing to step out for his friend when he says, “Let us go to die with him.” We might reflect: What are the qualities that make for a good friend?

For many years, disciples of Jesus have prayed the Stations of the Cross as a way to “go and die with Jesus.” By drawing close to Jesus on the Cross, some have even learned about how to live. The Cross is our salvation and is central to our faith; the Way of the Cross is a prayer or set of prayers that sets this mystery of our salvation before us. Our pastoral region prays the Stations on Wednesday and Friday evenings during Lent – as well as during the day with the school children. As an aside to the Stations of the Cross, I’ve found the song “Via Dolorosa” to be a beautiful and powerful meditation on the way of the Cross as well.

One of the Lenten disciplines is almsgiving. I’m very encouraged to see how well you have supported the St. Vincent de Paul during this holy season. Thank you for those who have donated food or made a monetary contribution to St. Vincent de Paul or other ministries that serve people in our area who are in need.

What a joy to know, love, and serve the good God.

In Christ,

One Faith , One Hope,

One Love Capital Campaign

Thanks in such large part to your efforts, the One Faith, One Hope, One Love capital campaign has redeemed more than $68 million in donations to date. That represents about 41`% of the nearly $166 million pledged so far. Your prayers and sacrifices for this historic initiative continue to make a huge difference! In the past few weeks alone: Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio reported how “every program receiving funding from the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign showed significant service growth. That

includes what the agency calls “a dramatic increase” in meals served, as well as expansion of parish outreach services. Just over 1,600 students have received tuition assistance offers for Catholic elementary schools across the archdiocese, thanks to benefactors of One Faith, One Hope, One Love. Parishes received a total of nearly $5 million in the most recent payment of campaign rebates to use for their own priorities. And more than $1.2 million went to support retired diocesan priests.

Thank you yet again for your continued help! May God richly bless you during this Lenten season.

The Gospel today, challenges us to see and believe the signs of grace in our lives: joy, peace, forgiveness, mercy and kindness. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brings joy, mercy and kindness to the hurting hearts of the poor. Please

be generous with your support so that together we can be a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering.

Sunday Evening Prayer (Vespers) with Faith Formation

and Fellowship April 9

We will start with Evening Prayer in the Chapel. Of course we have to have a food theme. For April, bring a salty food.

No need to sign up; you are welcome to join us.

Time: 6:00 PM in the Chapel, followed by Faith Formation to 8:00 PM.

Rosary Altar Society Greetings from St. Peter's Rosary Altar Society. We want to invite all women

of the parish to join us for two events in April. On Monday, April 3, we will be visiting all the Hamilton retirement facilities. Please gather in the school parking lot at 5:30 PM; we will leave from there. We will deliver handmade Easter cards created by the children of St. Peter's School. The residents love receiving these cards and are always touched that they are remembered. Also, the next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 6 at 6:15 PM. At this meeting we will be collecting items for The Caring Closet. It is a non profit providing assistance to Hamilton children in grades K-8 who are in need of clothing and necessities. We are collecting items to "stock their shelves!" Items we are collecting include: women's underwear, 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, men and women's deodorant and men and women's socks. All items must be new. We look forward to a large donation from our group. This is a great way to give back to our community! Any questions please call Peggy Bange @233-5138. Please bring all your donations to this meeting.

April “Make a Change”

St. Julie Billiart Conference

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international, Catholic lay organization, founded in 1833 in Paris by Frederic Ozanam and his companions. The conference meets every Monday and serves as an intermediary between those able to help and those needing help, within the parish boundaries. The parish’s continued financial support is necessary for the society to function. Please consider helping us with your kind donation.

Altar Rosary Society Easter

Basket Raffle: This is the final week to return your raffle tickets for the Easter Basket Raffle. Tickets are due on Thursday, April 6, with the raffle to be held the next day. The donation is $1.00 per ticket or six tickets for $5.00.

Bingo Workers Needed: We are looking for a couple more concession workers at our Wednesday night bingo. This is a great way to get to know other parish members and help with this fundraiser for our parish. The concession has four teams, so you are scheduled to work once a month from 5:30 to around 9:30 PM. About Maribel Trujillo. You may remember that in July 2015 over 600 parishioners of St. Joseph, St. Maximillian Kolbe, and St. Julie Billiart wrote letters to Senator Brown’s Office asking for his intervention on behalf of Maribel Trujillo. She is a married mother of four, the youngest being not even five. She is a lector at the 11:45 Mass. She had to report to the Columbus office of ICE each week for several months living with the ever present threat of being deported at a week’s notice. I remember one of you handed me $20 and asked me to give it to the family so they could take the kids out for ice cream. They wanted to make sure that what could be the family’s last weeks together had many good memories. In the end ICE actually gave her a work permit, put her reporting frequency to twice a year, and put her case at the “end of the line.”

Up until February things were going well. With the recent changes by the Trump administration they are now threatening to deport her again. She has now been reporting monthly. They put a GPS ankle bracelet on her. It could happen as soon as May.

In the summer of 2015 I wrote: There are few easy answers. However, I do believe that when we put a name and face to the

“issue”, we get a different perspective. Maribel’s case is not an easy one since the process was so far along. On Monday her husband reminded me that it is all about putting all things in God’s hands. The scripture reading that day was from Exodus. With the Egyptians breathing down their necks Moses tells the People: “Fear not! Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the LORD will win for you today. These Egyptians whom you see today you will never see again. The LORD himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still.” It is not easy for me to “keep still” and trust God.

Once more four children will be separated from the mother, a wife from her husband. Once more I wonder why we need to do this to families who only want to try to make a better life for their children.

Over the Months Some of You Have Asked…

Registro necesario.
