Prayers of the People Youth of Trinity Sunday SchoolIntercessor Today’s prayers will be offered in the form of the Five Finger Prayer. If you hold out your hand, you can follow along, finger by finger. The response is: “Hear our prayer.”

We pray for those closest to us:

Thumb – The thumb is the finger closest to you, so we pray for those who are closest to us, such as our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, stepparents, stepsisters, stepbrothers, grandparents, godparents, and especially for our sister, Shimmer and her family.

Who else close to you needs our prayers? Please answer aloud or in silence.

Silence

Let us pray to the Lord saying:All Hear our prayer.Intercessor We pray for those who point the way for us:

Index finger - This is our pointing finger, so we pray for those who point the way for us, such as parents, teachers, clergy, policemen and women, firemen and women, security guards, bus drivers, crossing guards, and elders.

Who else that points the way and needs our prayers? Please answer aloud or in silence.

Silence

Let us pray to the Lord saying:All Hear our prayer.Intercessor We pray for those with big responsibilities:

Middle finger - This is the biggest finger of all, so we pray for those with big responsibilities, like our president, government leaders, state and city leaders, Bishops, Archbishops, Rectors, Vicars, and others who lead and guide us.

Who else with big responsibilities needs our prayers?

Silence

Let us pray to the Lord saying:All Hear our prayer.

Intercessor We pray for those who are vulnerable and forgotten:

Fourth finger - This is the weakest of all our fingers, so we pray for those who are weak. We pray for those who are sick, or sad, or alone; for those who are in hospitals and rest homes, as well as those who are poor, hungry, and forgotten. We pray for people who are disabled, physically and mentally. We also pray for those who have died and those who mourn them.

Who else facing a tough situation needs our prayers?

Silence

Let us pray to the Lord saying:All Hear our prayer.

Intercessor We pray now for our own needs and thank God for the many blessings we have received:

Little finger - This is the little finger and it comes last. We now pray for ourselves and, as our hands are now fully open, let us shake them in the air and thank God for our many generous blessings!

What else do you want to thank God for?

Silence

Let us pray to the Lord saying:All Hear our prayer.

The Celebrant adds a concluding prayer.

Communion Hymns sung by all

Away in a manger, no crib for his bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes. I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, and stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Go, tell it on the mountain over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born.

While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night, Behold throughout the heavens there shown a holy light. Refrain

The shepherds feared and trembled, when lo! above the earth, Rang out the angel chorus that hailed the Savior’s birth. Refrain

The first Nowell the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; in fields where they lay, keeping their sheep, on a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

RefrainNowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star shining in the east beyond them far, and to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night. Refrain
