A Night At The Races Make sure to save the date -FEBRUARY 22- for our fifth annual night of fun at the races! Mardi Gras will be the theme. Cemetery Roadway During the winter months, be mindful that the Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association maintains the cemetery. As snow, ice, and inclement conditions accumulate, the driveway is not to be used as a thruway.
New Year Resolutions
In addition to your usual resolutions, consider the following this year. 1. Find a patron saint. Saints are our heroes in
faith and are powerful intercessors for us in heaven.
2. Go an extra day to Mass or to daily Mass. Since the group attending is usually small, and there is often no singing, most daily Masses will only take 30 minutes of your day. In return, you’ll receive extra graces and blessings for the small sacrifice.
3. Go to confession monthly. Yes, it’s difficult to face your sins and say them out loud, but frequent reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation gives you the grace to fight those sins and perhaps finally defeat them.
4. Read the Bible or attend a Bible Study. If you don’t own a Catholic Bible, invest in one and keep it where you will see it every day.
5. Pray the Rosary. The Rosary has been hailed by saints and popes alike as a powerful weapon to defeat evil and a beautiful way to meditate on the gospels. There are many powerful blessings and promises granted to those devoted to the Rosary.
6. Read about your Faith. If all you do is go to mass every Sunday, you’re missing out on many wonderful resources for your faith. This year, resolve to read on Catholic topics. Pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance.
7. Spend more time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Just 10 - 15 minutes on a regular basis will deeply improve your spiritual life.
8. Speak about others only with truth and love, not gossip.
9. Prevent burnout by putting aside work one day a week. Trust God to provide for your needs that day and just enjoy the time He’s given you.
Dear Friends of St. John, St. Joseph, and St. Mary’s, It is with a grateful heart that I write this letter of gratitude for your generous support of Rachel’s Vineyard of Pittsburgh. You welcomed Michele and I, we shared our stories together, and you received us as family, just like Jesus. Your combined generosity totaled 3180.13. This donation will provide continued support to our ministry. Since we are a volunteer ministry, I would like to briefly share how your donations will be used. We never refuse anyone regardless of ability to pay. You will help someone find the healing they seek. When a retreatant arrives, they receive a manual they will use during the retreat because of you. When you sit down to dinner know that a retreatant is having dinner because of you. At night if you awaken know there is a chapel where a restless heart can sit with Jesus because of you. On Sunday when a retreatant lights a candle to memorialize their child, they will do this because of you. You are an integral part of their healing experience. The Most Holy Name of Jesus The entrance antiphon for the feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus gives us a glimpse into how important Jesus' name is: At the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ Is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The history of the Holy Name of Jesus goes back to the earliest years of Christianity. IHS is a monogram. It comes from the Greek word for Jesus. This reverence continued into the medieval devotions promoted by St. Anselm of Canterbury.
