Nonetheless, the title passed to Charles II’s

son-in-law, René I of Anjou, Duke of Lorraine

(1409-1480), husband of the heir general,

Isabella, elder daughter of Charles II. The

dispute over succession was only resolved by

the marriage of Frederick II, Count of

Vaudémont (1417-1470), son of Antoine, to

Yolande of Anjou, daughter of René I. Their

son, René II (1451-1508) succeeded as Duke of

Lorraine in 1473 on the death of Nicholas of

Anjou, Duke of Lorraine (1448-1473).
