A message from your PTA president…It’s difficult to believe that Winter break is already here. It has been an amazing half of the school year! I want to thank all of you, our volunteers, who have helped make this a very successful year. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
The first weekend of December we hosted our second annual Breakfast with Santa. Everyone who attended enjoyed the food, crafts and of course, a turn with Santa. I would like to thank Kristina McLaughlin and her committee for all their hard work, and all the volunteers that made this such a successful event.
We hope that you love the presents that your children purchased at the Holiday Gift shop. The students had so much fun shopping and choosing gifts for their family and friends. Thanks to Denise Wheatly and her great committee and again to all the volunteers who helped to make this week of shopping great for our students!
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students), our dad involvement program, will begin in January. We have already signed up dads to volunteer almost every Thursday and Friday until the end of the school year. WOW, way to go dads!! If you are interested in being a part of the Watch D.O.G.S., please contact our coordinator, Beth Spillane, at [email protected].
We have scheduled some amazing events for the remainder of the school year. To name a few, the Mother/ Son event, the Father/ Daughter Dance and the Empty bowls Soup Dinner/Art events will be coming soon. Please make sure you check your calendar for dates of these and other events.
Thanks for supporting Haw Creek Elementary and your PTA!
Sincerely, Shelley McKinley HCE PTA President 2010-2011

Collection Programfor Recycling
Please collect your EMPTY glue sticks and glue bottles (Elmer’s and all other brands accepted). In January,
we will have collection bins available for in-school and from-home collection. Until then, any empty bottles and glue sticks can be placed in our marked green Recycling Team Bin
inside the front lobby of the school.
This project will enhance the 3rd grade curriculum on pollution. Classrooms are encouraged to collect their glue sticks and glue
bottles to help Mrs. Bishop’s special class project a success! You will also help keep all these out of our landfills.
All glue sticks and glue bottles will be recycled! If you are curious how it works, go to the link below and watch the
Elmer’s & TerraCycle recycling video.
How Elmer’s Glue is Recycled through TerraCycle http://www.elmersgluecrew.com/ (scroll down to bottom of page)
Stay turned for more great details in January 2011!
Until then, please collect them in a container of your choice. Thank you!!!
Q&A: Do I need to clean the glue sticks and blue
bottles before shipping? We ask that you remove the
residue from the sides as much as possible; please me
sure that all glue is emptied from the bottles.
