When a political leader takes public office, one of the first things on the agenda is to make sure that a group of trustworthy advisors surrounds him or her. Surrounding oneself with advisors helps to simplify the complex job that lies ahead. After all, no one besides God is an expert on everything. Being able to turn to a group of people for advice, especially if those people are familiar with the leader’s personal strengths and weaknesses, makes it easier for a politician to do the job. However, you do not have to lead a country to benefit from surrounding yourself with a group of peo-ple who support you. Placing yourself in the middle of a circle of friends and mentors is a simple way to help you to be more successful in whatever job God has set before you. Building a circle of support demands honesty – with both yourself and others. It takes humility, where people with different backgrounds, personalities, and opinions are willing to listen and learn from each other. It also takes time. Such relationships do not happen overnight. You must work with your colleagues and peers, pray with them, and share your heart with them. David and Absa-lom regarded all of Ahithophel’s advice (2 Samuel 16:23). Your best support group is found in your closest relationships. These relationships provide a mirror to help you see yourself more clearly. People who know you well and care about helping you reach your God-given potential are a great source of advice. They challenge you toward personal growth and away from mistakes that have the potential to complicate your life; they help you look your best both inside and out. One Final Thought -- Surrounding yourself with a circle of honest, loving friends can give you the courage and support you need to achieve your potential. Passages taken from, “Simple Living for You: God’s Guide to Enjoying What Matters Most.”

November is November is American Diabetes MonthAmerican Diabetes Month

Did you know about 1 in every 400 children and adoles-cents have diabetes? Ethnically and racially, in children younger than 10, most are Non-Hispanic Whites with Type 1 diabetes while in children between age 10 and 19, most are American Indians and Non-Hispanic Black with Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that affects the whole family, espe-cially when a child is diagnosed. Whether it’s a parent, sibling or other family member, their support and under-standing can make all the difference. After the initial shock of a diabetes diagnosis wears off, family members will be-gin adjusting to life with diabetes. With a little planning and preparation, the family can resume all of their normal day-to-day activities, such as exercising or going out to eat. Diabetes should not keep your child from achieving his/her highest goals. For a student using insulin, diabetes must be managed 24/7, including the many hours spent at school, on field trips and in extra-curricular activities. Some families can send their child with diabetes to school in the morning and feel confident that the school will be prepared to provide the diabetes care that meets their child's needs. Other families worry that their child won't have access to good diabetes management, that their child will be ex-cluded from activities or have to take an exam when blood glucose levels are plummeting. It will be important to work with the school, healthcare professionals, school district and pediatrician to formulate a plan for a child’s diabetes care while in school. Depending on personality and age, your involvement in your child's diabetes care will vary. If your child is young, you may play a bigger role in diabetes care. As your child gets older, it's important to help him/her learn self-management skills and start to own their own diabetes care. During the years ahead, you'll experience many of

the same growing pains every parent faces as their child matures and gains independence. But you will have an additional transition to make – helping your child to man-age diabetes. The American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Camps provide a special time for kids with diabetes — one of the best times of the summer and one the campers always remember. It can help kids learn that they are not alone in their challenges and struggles dealing with their diabetes. They make friends and just have fun. It can also give them the confidence they need to manage their diabetes and enjoy their lives knowing having diabetes cannot stop them. Parents can also benefit with a week of fewer wor-ries and less stress knowing their child is being cared for. Obtaining information and seeking available resources can help every child and every family adjust to life with diabe-tes. Please visit the American Diabetes Association website - http://www.diabetes.org/ for additional information.

The answer to last month’s Jumble was REFER TO A COMMIT-TEE. This motion is utilized when a main motion or resolution needs more information – to the point where the motion is turned over to a committee for further study or drafting before the entire group considers it further. This motion may also be called COMMIT TO A COMMITTEE. Example: I move to refer the motion to hold a Pink and Green Party in June 2012 to a committee of 9 (nine) sorors consisting of one Golden Soror, the Membership Chairman, the Hodegos and six other sorors as determined by the Basileus; and to in-struct the committee to report at the next meeting. For more information, see (RONR 10th ed., p. 160-71) Take a look at the word search puzzle below. There are 32 common parliamentary terms in the puzzle. The person with the most correct answers will win a prize at the December General Body meeting. Have fun!
