Thanks so much to all who donated, and or worked, or just prayed for our outreach today. We saw a record number of people and the plant based burgers were a success. We ran out and served peanut butter and jelly sandwiches so no one (except workers, lol) went away hungry. St. Mary’s couldn’t be doing this for the least of our brothers without you!
May God’s light shine thru you! Denise

Photo in program (on right) shows canoes paddling out from Ala Moana Park, heading just outside the point at Magic Island, where ashes of the generous donors are return to the sea, as a final farewell, “Aloha”, and thank-you, “Mahalo”.
“Aloha, a hui hou”, Until we meet again”.
The Willed Body Program allows Hawaii residents to make a significant differ-ence by donating their bodies to advance the teaching of medicine and surgery at the University of Hawaii at Manoa John A. Burns School of Medi-cine.
We would like to thank the family and friends for supporting the decisions of their loved ones.
University of Hawai’i at Manoa’s John A. Burns School of Medicine, held their annual Willed Body Memorial Service at Campus Center in Manoa on April 7, 2018.
It was a well attended service. So touching as photos of the deceased donors were shown on the screen.
There was a hula preformed by some of the students and various speeches “Thanking” the donors for
their generous contribution to the school. Another person spoke about one of the donors, and shared their humorous conversation.
After the service, refreshment were held in a courtyard and entertainment was provided by medical students.
Charis Mok playing the violin above has been partici-pating for a couple years.
The JABSOM Classes of 2020 and 2021 would like to express our deepest apprecia-tion to the women and men who have selflessly given their bodies so that we may learn.

NURD’S WORDS
My voice has betrayed me. It no longer is reli-able and presents me with speaking issues (as the younger generation would phrase it). There have been a lot of tests and medical head-scratching.
The good news is there is nothing life threatening; the bad news is I am only able to speak in what one doctor called “quiet conversational tones.” Evi-dently a couple of years ago a bad cold accompanied by some kind of virus grabbed ahold of my larynx and left it damaged. This also means that I am no longer able to do clergy supply.
Over a plank salmon lunch, Fr. Greg-ory bravely asked if I would be willing to write a short column for each issue of The Journey. He laid down one ground rule only: be brief (no more than 250 words).
Now there’s a challenge for any writer. But one of the great style manu-als for writing has its author, Will Strunk, crying out, “Omit need-less words!” I wonder
how sermons would be improved if worshippers were empowered to shout aloud this phrase whenever we preach-ers begin to wander down irrelevant, time consuming sermon back streets and alleys.
As you can see, I have given this col-umn a name: “Nurd’s Words.” Con-sider this first edition to be like a movie trailer. I will attempt to share a few thoughts each month about life in general and life in the church. We’ll see how it goes. And if you’ve been counting, I just logged 249 words. Whew! (250).
