“Queanbeyan Rotary - Your need is our deed”
9 April 2014 Edition President’s Report Last week Tim gave his ‘me talk’ with pictures of his life – very interesting – I am sorry to have missed it. I was in Sydney most of this week assisting with my granddaughters to and from school – it was fun and a challenge which I was able to live up to! This week I am putting my photos into their frames for the exhibition next week – coming up very quickly. Last Saturday the Clubs planted out the plants for the Queanbeyan Renal Unit – the final step – and an opening ceremony is planned for Easter Sunday 20 April at 12.30pm – please indicate if you are able to come. Tonight we have our board meeting – look forward to seeing you there. Kristin

2014 Peace Fellows Dinner
Rotary World Peace Fellows are a very special group of people. They come from across the world,
have a wide range of talents – but most importantly they have all been very active and creative in
helping people in various parts of the world who suffer from the consequences of conflict.
The Fellows have been selected by Rotary as the most talented from a wide pool of applicants. They
are complementing their experience with full time studies in peace and conflict resolution -
sponsored by Rotary International - at one of six specially selected Rotary Peace Centres around
the world.
Our district is fortunate to host the 2013/14 class of Rotary Peace Fellows who are studying at the
University of Queensland.
They are coming for a four day programme of professional and cultural visits.
On Monday 5 May, 6.30 for 7pm, we will hold a special dinner at The Deck at Regatta Point, Parkes,
where all eleven fellows will tell us their fascinating stories as well as their experiences and plans
for the future. You will find this inspiring and moving - so much more can be done in peace in peace
keeping and conflict resolution - and our Peace Fellow are some of the best equipped to make a
difference.

The World’s Greatest Meal to Help End Polio
Rotarians from all over the world are raising money for the final push in polio eradication by taking part in The World’s Greatest
Meal to Help End Polio. Events have already taken place in other parts of the world, clubs and districts have held events to support
this cause and have been very successful.
Polio has now been eradicated from most countries in the world with India recently being declared polio free. That now only leaves
Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria to finally eradicate polio from the world.
Come and join us at the District lunch and help make a splash with a great effort coming from District 9710. During the meal,
donations will be sought for the End Polio Now campaign. Clubs are being asked to make a donation to polio eradication at the
lunch so make sure that your Club takes part by supporting you with a donation at the event (bring a cheque made out to Rotary
Foundation End Polio)
Remember that every US$1 raised will be matched by US$2 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Every dollar matched will
immunise seven children.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR DISTRICT 9710 AND JOIN US TO HEAR A RESPRESENTATVE OF THE INDIAN HIGH
COMMISSIONER TELL US ABOUT THE ERADICATION OF POLIO IN INDIA.

FUNDRAISING BIKE TOUR FOR SIDS AND KIDS
Hi Everyone, In memory of my grandson(Lachie), I am conducting a bike tour as a Fundraiser for the SIDS and KIDS Foundation. I will be heading to Bega via Cooma, Jindabyne, Bombala, Orbost, Cann River and Eden. I will do this in mid-June finishing in Bega on June 27th.I am doing this unsupported and will cover a total of 670km. This is both Red Nose Day and Lachie’s 3rd Anniversary, hence the timing. If you could help me in any way it would be very much appreciated, by both myself and the SIDS and KIDS Foundation. I have attached the link to my fundraising page. Even if you can’t donate please feel free to read my story and that of some of those who have. https://sidsandkidsaustralia.everydayhero.com/au/ian-s-page-for-lachie Thank You, Ian Cross 0403815060
