Coaching for Credit

Many have expressed interest in receiving more information about “Coaching for Credit.” If you need additional information, please contact me.

Instructional Coaching gives teachers the opportunity to examine and implement effective teaching practices. The instructional coach supports teachers as they initiate change and implement new/different teaching practices through professional development and a cycle of coaching conferences.

The instructional coaching experiences at your school DO NOT need to involve taking

If more information in need – please let me know. “Coaching for Credit.” This is just an option available.

The Learning Targets for this individualized course include:

§ Participants will understand the theory behind the “effective teaching practices” that the district/building is providing through professional development.

§ Participants will implement effective teaching practices from professional development with the support of the instructional coach.

§ Coaching will be differentiated for the needs of each teacher.

The course content is individualized between each teacher/coach. Each school’s professional learning goals should be included.

“Coaching for Credit” will be available for 1 License Renewal Credit or 1 Graduate Credit. The course expectations and rubric have been included with the emailing of this newsletter. I will begin finalizing the syllabus for both Leeds and Whittier.

I will let you know when our syllabus has been approved.

YOU MATTER

Some of you may remember Angela Maiers. She provided some professional learning opportunities in the Sioux City School District several years ago on the topic of literacy. She paved the way for instructional coaching by providing demonstrations in the classroom. I have admired her work ever since. During the course of the past year I have gotten to know Angela on a deeper professional level. Angela’s passions for education are evident in her two books, The Passion Driven Classroom: A Framework for Teaching and Learning and Classroom Habitudes: How to Teach 21st Century Learning Habits and Attitudes. The resource section of her website (http://www.angelamaiers.com/) has many things to explore!

This summer Angela was invited to give a TEDx Talk in Des Moines, IA. Her #YouMatter message is spreading around the world. I invite you to view this power video! Two words, YOU MATTER, can change lives. The possibilities are endless for our students, our schools, our colleagues, our families, our communities and each one of us!
