The Character Analysis Plot Situation VS Reality Moral Value My Comment1. Protagonist: Edward

Tulane, because he is the main character in the story and he got the trouble.Character:1) Arrogant, because

Edward felt himself to be an exceptional specimen and never ceased to be amazed at his own fineness when he saw his reflection in the glass.

2) Cold-hearted, because he didn’t care about Abilene’s love to him, the conversation at the dining room, and that Abilene afraid when she lost him.

3) Easy to feel hopeless, because Edward swore that he would not love someone after he felt broken heart

1. BeginningIn a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane who was owned by Abilene Tulane. One night, Pellegrina, Abilene’s grandmother told Edward that he was disappointed her because he loved no one just like the beautiful princess in the story that she told to Abilene and Edward. When Abilene and her mother in a voyage to London, she bring Edward with her. But, because of the two boys’ mockery of Edward’s clothes, Edward threw into the sea and began his adventure.

2. Middle (climax)After owned by the grandparents, a vagrant with his dog, and became a crow’s chaser away, Edward was

In the story, Edward Tulane, a china rabbit/doll could feel and think something in his life. He also could dream about her problem when he was broken. In the reality, china dolls couldn’t feel and think even, didn’t have a life, except when they were broken. They also couldn’t dream.

The value:1. We may not be an

arrogant and cold-hearted person.Reason: being an arrogant and cold-hearted person make other people keep their distance with us. Besides that, kind of people like that will not be happy, because he/she didn’t feel love.

2. If something in our life went wrong, we may not get ourselves in deep emotion. We must try to move on.Reason: getting ourselves in deep emotion makes us couldn’t be focus doing any activities. It would make our problems increase. Then, we’ll become stress.

3. If someone told us about our weaknesses, we must try to prove it to him/her that we can change or we’re not a kind of people like that.

I rate this book as an excellent book, because the story served interestingly with Kate DiCamillo’s imagination and completed by Bagram Ibatoulline’s illustrations.

Personal comment: Kate DiCamillo expresses her imagination in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane so well. She makes the readers see the life from a china rabbit’s eyes. The story is reflection of reality. Edward Tulane’s characters are similar with many peoples in the world. People need to love and being loved by others. Besides that, Bagram Ibatoulline’s illustrations in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane make the readers more understand the story. The illustrations are match with the text.

after Sarah Ruth died.

2. Antagonist: Pellegrina, because she made Edward in trouble by told him her disappointment.Character:

1) Care, because she liked to tell a story to Abilene and Edward.

2) Respect, because she spoke to Edward as he was real just like Abilene did.

3) Expect too high, she expected Edward too high although he just a china rabbit.

given by a little boy (Bryce) to her younger sister (Sarah Ruth) who was sick. She was loved him and so did Edward. But, someday she died. Edward got broken hearted and swore that he would not want to love someone or being loved again.

3. EndingEdward perforce sold at the china doll store, because Bryce couldn’t pay the reparation cost. After waited for years, in the rainy day, a little girl with her mother came to the store just for looked. The little girl interested to Edward and told her mother. Her mother looked the china rabbit and called him, “Edward”. Edward saw the woman hold his watch.

Reason: if we don’t prove that we can change or we’re not a kind of people like that, the people would keep doing it. We could be oppressed by the people.
