Colour and size• The Moon is the closest planet to
Earth.• The colour we see is
not its natural colouring.
• It is actually black.• The yellow colouring
is just the reflection of the Sun.
Space Travel
• It takes about 3 days for a rocket to get to the Moon.
• It would take a car 200 days to travel the same distance.
• Many people have travelled to the Moon.
• The last rocket mission to the Moon was in 1999.
1st Man on the Moon • In 1969, the U.S.A Apollo 11
mission landed three astronauts on the Moon.
• The first man to walk on the Moon was Neil Armstrong. The other two astronauts were Buzz Aldrin and ???
• As Neil took his first step, he said: “That’s a small step for man and a giant step for man kind.”
• Neil flew to the Moon from the main rocket in smaller spacecraft called Luna 2.
• Earth is the closest planet to the Moon.
• The Moon’s nearest planetary neighbours are Venus and Mercury.
• The Moon’s rotates around the Earth, and in turn rotates around the Solar System.
Phases of the Moon• At certain times of the month
we see different sections of the Moon.
• We only ever see one half of the Moon.
• What we see depends on where we live and the angle we see the Moon.
• The sun reflects its light from the side of the Moon that we can see.
• The other side of the Moon is called the dark side…as in The Dark Side of the Moon.
