PARISH NEWS

ST. BONAVENTURE COLUMBUS, NE

From our Pastor….

From June 10-17, I am on my Canonical Retreat, a time each year a priest attends to spiritually recharge. This weekend, please welcome Fr. Dennis Hanneman, a retired priest from the Archdiocese of Omaha. This weekend, we celebrate the solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity, which honors the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The early Church believed in the Trinity from the very beginning, but it was formally stated at the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. (which we profess at Sunday Mass) because heresies arose from people believing that Jesus was only a man or was created by God. All persons in the Trinity have always existed without beginning and are of equal power. This can be hard for us to fathom, but some theologians such as Justin, Irenaeus, Athanasius, Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, to name a few, have helped us understand this mystery a little better. We wish all of our fathers a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! As a father, you are the source of your child’s existence. You are their provider. You are their teacher. You love them unconditionally. All these qualities are found in our Heavenly Father who has passed them on to you to carry out to the best of your ability.

Blessings,

Simon House balers for June 21: Jerry Duran & Rich Wolpert
