o Representatives from NSYCC plan to attend to evaluate if there are any opportunities to establish relationships young chemists in the surrounding regions
Industry Tour Serieso Vertex (early December) and Genzyme (January) has agreed to host
NSYCC for tours of their facilities Reverse Science Fair
o Planning chemistry demonstrations for local middle school students. We are currently looking for a location to host the event. Potential locations include the Cambridge Public Library or East Boston High School
Northeast Student Chemistry Research Conference and Career Symposium
o Saturday April 23, 2016 and Sunday April 24, 2016o Currently seeking established chemists to speak at Career Symposium

o In order to offset the costs of this year’s program, we are planning on charging a nominal fee ($5 - $10) for the conference and seeking industrial sponsors
YCC / GDCh exchange: L. Johnson / F. Lucci Please see our November article in The Nucleus for a full report. Also, for the consideration of the NESACS board: Through the Young Chemists Crossing Boarders program, NESACS has
the one time opportunity to send local delegates to the 2016 European Association for Chemical and Molecular Science Congress (EuChemMS) in Seville, Spain. This unique opportunity will inspire and cultivate future section leaders with international connections.
This program builds upon the success of the joint exchange program during the ACS National Meeting in Boston which was recently reported by the German Exchange Steering Committee.
o We reported the 15th ongoing exchange between NESACS-YCC and the GDCh-JCF. We greatly appreciate the ongoing financial support of the board and the generous support of funding organizations and corporate sponsors.
o We also reported the joint exchange that included 10 members of the Younger Chemist Committee (YCC) and the European Younger Chemists Network (EYCN) entitled Young Chemists Crossing Borders (YCCB).
o 12 members of NSYCC actively participated in the programing which enhanced the enthusiasm and motivation of the committee. As a result of the program, NSYCC has been inspired to increase interactions between our local section, national ACS, and other international young chemists’ organizations.
The 2015 exchange in Boston connected local section young chemists with leaders of other international organization for young chemists. Shown are participants including Jackie O’Neil (NSYCC chair 2015), Felicia Lucci (NSYCC chair 2016), Fernando Gomollón Bel (EYCN chair), Sebastian Sobottka (GDCh-JCF vice-chair), Bart Verbraeken (Board Member Royal Flemish Chemical Society), Christine Dunne (YCC) and Jens Breffke (YCC).
Younger Chemists Crossing Borderso The YCCB is in its 5th year providing an opportunity for local young
chemists to experience the chemistry community of Europe and the United States. Each YCCB exchange is followed the next year with

representatives of the host section sending leaders who are younger chemists to the EuChemMS Congress.
o 2012, the YCC delegates from Denver (immediately after 2011 ACS Meeting) went to Prague
o http://www.chemistryviews.org/details/event/836571/4th_EuCheMS_Chemistry_Congress.html
o in 2014, the YCC delegates from Indianapolis (immediately after 2013 ACS Meeting) went to Istanbul
o http://euchems2014.org/**Importantly, the Indiana Local Section won a 2015 ChemLuminary award for their 2014 exchange program.
For NESACS, the opportunity is as follows:o Send delegates from NESACS (and adjacent or proximal local
sections) to Seville Spain for the 6th EuChemMS Congress September 10 -16, 2016.
o http://euchems-seville2016.eu/euchems-venue/ o Young chemists already actively involved in our section will have
the opportunity to develop relationships with European peers. They will present both their research and involvement in NESACS internationally.
o This opportunity will inspire and develop future leaders of our section. The 2016 programming includes workshops on leadership, career development, and interpersonal skills.
o Delegates (<35 years of age) will be selected from NESACS who are actively involved in NESACS, demonstrate strong engagement and commitment to the field of chemistry, exhibit high standards of scientific qualifications, and have excellent interpersonal skills
Our steering committee is seeking financial and logistical support from NESACS and the German Exchange Steering Committee members.
What we would like from NESACS is:o Backing by the NESACS board for the travel (only) expenses for 4-6
members of the delegation to Seville, Spaino This could total 7500 dollars (1300 USD x 6= 7800 USD)o Note: Registration, accommodations and programming will be
supported by the EYCN Ways we will seek to reduce expenses
o Seek applications from younger chemists in industry (with self-funding)o Seek applications from young faculty (with academic support)o Seek applications from those outside our section (with other LS
support)o The Steering Committee will diligently apply for all manner of support
including corporate sponsorship and travel grant support (this financial support may cover all of the travel expenses (or none)
o 11,500 dollars in ACS-related grant opportunities. o Seeking financial support from National YCC

There was much discussion by the NESACS Board on the value of this program to the attendees and the value to the section and the ACS in supporting the EuChemMS Congress in Spain. As such: the following motion was presented (D. Phillips) and seconded (M. Hoffman)
Motion: The NESACS Board gives nominal support for a 4 to 6 member delegation to attend the 6th EuChemMS Congress in Seville Spain and for the YCC / GDCh exchange committee to conduct fundraising in support of the event.
The Motion passes unanimously by voice vote

From: J. Piper, Treasurer
Re: Calendar Year 2016 Budgets, due November 12
The Budget Committee has begun the budget review process for the coming year. The budget is presented as information at the January Board meeting and presented for adoption at the February meeting. New committee chairs will therefore have the opportunity to modify their budgets after the January meeting.
Would you please submit your estimate of expenditures for 2016 along with amounts and sources of offsetting income, if any. Note that all expenses must be budgeted even if you expect some of them to be covered by income. Any itemization and/or justification of expenditures which you can supply will be helpful since the Budget Committee often has to cut requests.
Please note that extraordinary income was obtained from the Trust funds in 2015 to balance the budget, but similar funds are unlikely to be available in 2016. Therefore, budget requests should be conservative.
Please return this information to me by November 12, by mail to 19 Mill Road, Harvard, 01451, email at [email protected], or at the November Board meeting.
