A Letter from Your LTG

School's back in, and it's time to shake off the laziness of

summer and get back to business. Invite me to your

meetings -- if not the first one you have this year, then the

second or third. Better yet, invite me to your service

projects! I'd love to hang out and help out with

everybody, and it's a much better way for me to get to

know your club members.

Fall Rally is coming up, ahhh! Get a taste of what Key

Club is like for kids from the rest of Texas and Oklahoma,

and sending members means your club gets a chance to

win 1000 monthly reporting points at the Rally at 11am.

Key Club Rallies at other districts are held in high schools

and at local venues. So this is huge comparatively. If

enough people don't sign up, the District won't be willing

to do it again! So get as many members as you can to go!

No matter how much you love Key Club, school and

grades can get crazy, so don't hesitate to ask me if you

need help with your Key Club affairs. Or for some help on

your pre-cal homework. I still remember a lot from that

class.

Key Club Love,

Nancy Huang

Issue 5,

August 2012

I actually got to see a bunch of you this month! Hurray!

Here a bunch of awards I made up to express how

much I love you guys. Keep in touch and invite me to

your meetings so I have stuff to write for this section

every month! You can also send in suggestions for

people by email and I'll put them on here too!

The Evil Dictator Award Carlos Sotelo, Sam Rayburn -

For stepping up and making sure his club ran smoothly

by taking over the club newsletter this month. And also

for taking over all of his school's organizations. Very

impressive and a little scary.

The Sweetiepie Award. Bahar Zendehel, Ball High - For

being sweet and enthusiastic and awesome every

time I email/call/see her. You're the best, Bahar! <3

The Happy Owl Award. Heather Yang, Ball High - For

always remembering to reply to my emails! After my

PCM many of you have been actually responds, so

thank you! My displeased owl face is no longer.

The Validated Lieutenant Governor Award: Kellie Harris,

Bay City - For making me feel special (and a old...

haha) by calling me "Ma'am" when she first talked to

me this summer. I just found that so adorable.

The Non-Procrastinator Award. Angelo Rios, Robert E.

Lee - THIS GIRL got her club's monthly report out

before the due date! Before I made secretary calls!

Just.. applause.

The Division 28 Anti-Award Carlos Sotelo, again, for

picking exactly the most embarrassing picture on

Facebook of me possible for the Sam Rayburn club

website. Why, Carlos.

That's all for this month.

There are so many more

people I'd like to feature

on this section than I had

space for. If you don't see

your name this month, I'll

definitely get you in my

next publication! :)

Stuff to Keep in Mind

1. You legitimately want to do a good job in your officer position. Remember, Key Club is completely student-run, which means

it's up to you to take responsibility for the success of your club. Nobody else is going to do it for you! Key Club is

one old and humongous organization, which means running your club is going to take a bit of extra training to

make sure you know what you're doing! 2. You want to be the next Lieutenant Governor. Not gonna lie, Lieutenant Governors never want to give up their positions in

April. Why? Because everything from the stress of planning events to working with an amazing board to getting

to know everyone in your division is not something you ever want to end! Unfortunately, as this is my last year in

high school, I have to decide on a successor in January or February. Think you're up for the job? There's a forum

just for prospective LTGs! 3. You want to hear a great speaker talk about community service. The Keynote speaker will be the Westview Director of

Development John Moring, who has made service to Houston his career. 4. You want to meet everyone else in the Division. Do you crave awkwardness? Well there'll be plenty of that in our

icebreaker! 5. You want to meet other members of the District Board. Ah, the District Board. I'm sure you've heard the whispers about

Governor Brian O'Hara. Like how he's awesome and stuff? Yeah, it's true. And guess what? He'll be there. 6. You're hungry. And there will be free lunch. And many snacking opportunities. 7. You don't have any excuse not to. Because you really don't. Unless you talk to me about it beforehand (because you

actually might :P). 8. You love your Lieutenant Governor. Because I will be forlorn if you don't show up!

Submitting dues to International (note: not the

District Treasurer) for 15 members by November 1st

will earn your club 100 points. That means you'll be

that much closer to being in the Top 25 (to put that

in perspective, a Top 25 club typically earns 500

points per month). Sending in dues is what keeps

your club recognized by Key Club International!

Don't risk probation or losing your charter!

The minimum of dues for the T-O district is $12.50, but

each club can charge up to $19 per member if they

wish.

The dues process can be a headache, so if you

have any questions, feel free to ask me or District

Treasurer Maci Slater at [email protected] for

help! If you've lost your password for the T-O website

(tokeyclub.org), email District Admin Walt Roetter at

[email protected].

Make sure you've given me a

number for your club's

attendance by September 15! I

want representatives from

every single school to come!

PCM/Social Recap

After a haphazard game of Two Truths and a Lie ("Wait...

you don't like blue, and that's the lie, so you don't not like

blue... so that must mean... wait."), Ball, Sam Rayburn, and

Sterling Key Clubbers got a quick divisional update and

then watched Up while munching on ice cream cups.

Everyone had lots of fun and experienced first-hand my

penchant for tangents. Hopefully your club will attend

next time!

At the PCM I made a BIG deal about

responding all my emails so that I know

that you've read the updates I send

you. Everything I send is in a pretty

timely manner, so I ask all of you to at

least skim through the message so

you're not only reading an email about

a thing you have to do in June by the

middle of September.

Many of you have been replying quite

regularly now, so thank you all very

much and keep it up! Communication

is the key to running anything, and

we're getting much better at it as a

division.

Invite me to your club meetings, your socials,

your whatevers. I want to meet you and your

members and I don't mind giving you a run-

through of the stuff I talked about while I'm there!

BE SURE to attend the upcoming Fall Training

Conference (or get in touch with me to work

something out if you really can't and your club

can't send anybody). Officers MUST be trained to

run their Key Clubs properly for the year.

Dear Sir or Madam...

You are cordially invited to the following district and divisional events. Your Lieutenant

Governor will be attending all of them and they are all guaranteed to be brimming with fun,

friendliness, and Key Club enthusiasm.

District Convention April 3-7, 2013

Dallas, TX

Fee: Estimated to be $130 per

member, so start fundraising for

your trip as soon as you can!

Division 28 Fall Training Conference

September 22nd, 2012

Robert E. Lee High School

1809 Market Street

Baytown, TX 77520

Fee: Anything off the Children's

Miracle Network list (this counts as

participation in the Governor's

Project!)

RSVP by September 15!

Fall Rally September 29th, 2012

Six Flags Over Texas

Come and go as you wish; Rally

starts at 11am

Fee: $30 per member

Send in your club's form by

September 21st!

Need a ride? Let me know if

you're planning on going to

any of these events!

Chances are other people in

the division need one as well

and we could set up a

carpool or get a bus! That

pumpkin is Cinderella's carriage, by the

way. Didn't know if you'd catch that.

Causes to Love

No idea what to do for a project this year? Here are some great causes your club can adopt

alongside other clubs across the division and the district. Talk to me if you have any questions

about doing any of these projects! I'm happy to answer anything.

The Didi Project

Every year, autistic kids in Houston go to The Westview

School, where these children can learn and actually

make friends with their classmates. The problem is,

Westview's tuition averages to $15,000 a year and almost

all the families struggle to keep their kids' school bills paid

for, on top of therapy classes, clubs, special diets, and

medications -- all to help their children one day fit into

normal society. Parents sacrifice a LOT for their autistic

children, which is why I want to create a scholarship so that

they have one less financial burden to worry about.

To fundraise for the Didi Project, your club can hold a bake sale, a walkathon, or just ask

around for donations! You can award the clubber who raises the most money with a Skype

session with Didi, the kid who started it all.

The B.R.O. Project

Participate in the Brothers Reaching Out project!

Direct service and fundraising will drastically help the

Children's Miracle Network (CMN), a network of

hospitals that makes sure that children get the best

healthcare they possibly can.

Project Eliminate

Surely by now you have heard of the Eliminate Project! The Texas-

Oklahoma District Project has now become a two-year district

initiative! To meet Kiwanis' deadline of raising $110m by 2015, us Key

Clubbers have to step it up to raise enough funds to wipe maternal

and neonatal tetanus from the face of the earth.

Here's Didi! Teaching my brother

how to take webcam photos is

harder than you'd think.
