Dear Friends of TeamMates:

Nancy and I would like to express our appreciation for your support of mentoring.

TeamMates is serving over 3,000 youth with 78 chapters in 96 communities communities throughout Nebraska and Iowa. We are pleased to see so many communities respond to the needs of today’s youth. While thousands of youth have benefited from an additional caring adult, there are many more youth who are waiting for a mentor. Our goal is to provide a mentor for 5,000 youth by 2010 and raise 2.5 million dollars to support this effort. Together, we can reach this goal to give youth added support and encouragement to reach their potential.

We would like to thank the local school districts, businesses, foundations and individuals who continue to generously support the mission of TeamMates. We would also like to thank the thousands of volunteers who step forward each year to make a difference in the lives of youth.

TeamMates is a school based, one-to-one

mentoring program founded by Tom and

Nancy Osborne in 1991 in an effort to provide

support and encouragement to youth. The

goal of the program is to see youth graduate

from high school and pursue post-secondary

education. To reach this goal, community

members volunteer one hour per week

within their local school. These caring adults

from the community serve as a positive role

model, creating a mentor/mentee bond

that gives youth a sense of hope, purpose

and vision.

youth who have been matched

with their mentor for four or

more years are eligible for the

scholarship. Special thanks

to mentors of the Osborne

Opportunity recipients who were

TeamMates communities across

the state are discovering that

local scholarship dollars make a

difference in helping youth

pursue post-secondary

education. Over $58,000 in

local scholarship dollars were

distributed to 97 TeamMates

youth statewide. Local

investing in our youth.Divine Shelton and his mentor Tim Schmad have been matched since he was in the seventh grade. Divine is now a freshman at Creighton University and is pursuing a law degree. Divine’s accomplishments include Senior Class President, Youth Leadership Omaha, Internship award from Fraser Stryker Law Firm, member of the 3rd place 400 meter relay State Championship team and Rotary Honor Roll. Tim says of his mentoring experience with Divine, “through these years, we have learned to agree to disagree. We have respect for each other’s views. He has helped mentor me just as much as I hope I have helped him.”

TeamMates mentor Anita McGaugh and her mentee, Natasha, celebrate graduation from high school. Natasha and Anita were matched with TeamMates for seven years.

teammates board of directors

Current term Board Members are (left to right) Dick Davis, Mark Hansen, Art Knox, Ken Risk, Carolin Roehr, John Schuele, Ken Stinson and Denny Walker. Your continued service is a blessing. Thank you.

The board of directors provides oversight and direction for communities in Nebraska and Iowa. The board also plays a critical role in the implementation of the strategic plan. The first phase of the plan is to maximize the communities within Nebraska. Targeted recruitment of new TeamMates communities as well as support of exisiting communities is underway. The second phase of the strategic plan is to focus expansion efforts in the state of Iowa. Iowa currently supports three TeamMates communities - Council Bluffs, Johnston and Woodbine. The TeamMates Board is working toward the vision of serving 10,000 youth by 2015.

We would like to take a moment to extend our sincere gratitude to Jerry Sellentin, Tony Raimondo, Alan Hirschfeld and Fred Kauffman for their dedication to the TeamMates Mentoring Program over the years. Thousands of youth have benefited from quality mentoring relationships because of your leadership. Thank you for your service.
