TWO DAYS AT 148TH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPExperience a day at The Open Championship, 2019 in Northern Ireland, Walk in the footsteps of some of the greatest players ever to play the game.
The only time – so far – that The Open had been held outside Scotland or England was in 1951 on the magnificent links at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. In 2014 The R&A announced that The Open would return at a later unspecified date. The wait for a British winner of The Championship that followed Max Faulkner’s victory in 1951 was not quite so long, but it did take until Tony Jacklin won at Lytham 18 years later.
The course had been newly recreated by Harry Colt in 1932 on the site of the previous 18-hole circuit, which had been laid out in 1888 by Old Tom Morris. The stunning Dunluce course, as the championship course is named, is routed through rugged links land and provides some of the most awe-inspiring scenery to be found in Ireland.
Wind direction varies almost constantly thanks to the layout, which consists of a single loop that meanders its way through sand dunes and along clifftops, with views of the sea and coastline often framing holes.

Royal Troon Golf ClubFounded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts, Troon Golf Club soon outgrew its purely local reputation. The Old Course today represents a stern golfing examination and in particular the inward half of Royal Troon is widely accepted as the most demanding of any Course on the Championship rota. Royal Troon has the shortest and longest holes in Open Championship golf. The world-renowned 8th hole, famously nicknamed ‘The Postage Stamp’ and pictured below, measures only 123 yards but is guarded by 2 cavernous bunkers, one of which is named ‘The Coffin’ .. enter in at your own peril! On the other hand, the 6th hole measures 601 yards and is the most challenging of par 5’s… Scottish golf at its finest. A 9-time host of the Open Championship, Royal Troon hosted the tournament in 2016, giving us historic final round between Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson-- a two-man race to the finish in one of the most memorable finals since the Duel in the Sun in 1977.

BUSHMILLS DISTILLERYThe Bushmills Distillery has had its’ fair share of visitors these past few hundred years, now over 120,000 each year and that’s not counting their resident ghost, The Grey Lady. Experience it yourself and be transported into a world that hasn’t changed much since they first opened their doors way back when.
CULZEAN CASTLEThis glorious 260ha estate was once the playground of David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis – a man who was keen to impress with his wealth and status. Opulent to the extreme, the park is planted with conifers and beech, sculpted around miles of sandy coastline dotted with caves, and finished off with a Swan Pond, an ice house, flamboyant formal gardens and fruit-filled glasshouses. The castle itself is perched on the Ayrshire cliffs. It was designed by Robert Adam in the late 18th century and is filled to the turrets with treasures that tell the stories of the people who lived here.
ROBERT BURNS - POETRobert Burns was born on January 25, 1759 in the “auld cley biggin” that is known as Burns Cottage. His birthday is celebrated throughout the world as Burns Night, with Burns Suppers, poems, songs and anecdotes about Scotland’s National Bard. Burns undoubtedly remains a hugely important historical literary figure, but of course he was – and is – so much more than that.
