Parish Merger Update – Naming the New Parish by Fr. Tim
The most recent step in the merger of our parish grouping is the Naming of the New Parish. This
step began on October 24th when we distributed a mailing to you. In this mailing we requested your
participation by asking you to submit potential names for the new parish. You embraced the
challenge! We received 146 submissions, representing 88 unique names. I am profoundly grateful
for your response.
Upon compiling the names and rationales submitted, on November 9th our Advisory Council started
the difficult task of narrowing the list of 88 names down to 20 names. A subset of the Advisory
Council (the “Naming Work Group”) then led this effort. Over the following 4 weeks and under the
guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Naming Work Group began prayerful consideration in selecting the
list of 20 names. The Diocese of Pittsburgh’s criteria and the key elements of the new vision formed
the basis for the selections. Review and modification of the respective rationale for each name was
required to ensure each name would be consistent with the mission of our new Parish. The
collective collaboration of the Advisory Council, the Naming Work Group, and myself enabled the
successful completion of this step.
Consequently, I am pleased to share with you the final list of 20 names we submitted to Bishop
Zubik on December 15. Note that the names are listed in alphabetical order.
St. Anthony of Padua Our Lady of Perpetual Help Blessed Family Lamb of God Blessed Sacrament St. Marcella St. Damian of Molikai St. Maximilian Kolbe Good Shepherd Ss. Perpetua & Felicity St. Ignatius of Loyola St. Peter the Apostle St. Jeanne Jugan Ss. Peter and Paul St. John the Baptist St. Phoebe St. John the Evangelist Queen of Heaven St. John Neumann St. Timothy
Bishop Zubik is now considering our list of names. Then, no later than January 29, 2021, the Bishop
will provide his feedback in the form of the list of names he approves for next phase of the new
Parish naming process – selection of the Top 5 names.
I am encouraged by the prayerful consideration and participation of our Parishioners as we have
progressed to date through the Merger process. I am confident that our collective prayers and
collaboration will continue as we proceed further on our journey to become a new Parish
community.

Thought for the Week God starts as a screen around you, to shield you from the world. He gradually builds you into a house, a
home, and a fortress.
Hospitality Corner
Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and
you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me, ill and you
cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’
Matthew 25:34-36
Do I see Jesus in the people around me?
Communion Reminder Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Communion at St. Mary and St. Ursula will remain after mass to cut
down on the amount of people leaving church at one time. For those who wish to receive Communion on the tongue, please wait until the end. This
allows the line to still move quickly without our priests and deacons having to pause to sanitize their hands repeatedly.
Parish Offices Closed The St. Mary and St. Ursula Parish Offices are closed for the holidays. They will reopen on January 4th. Phone messages will be monitored if you have
an immediate need.
Thank You from the Little Sisters of the Poor The generosity of your parish is a genuine witness of sharing and concern for our elderly residents during this difficult time. Our sincere gratitude goes to the
parishioners of St. Mary and St. Ursula for their generosity during the collection taken in November. We are pleased to share that the collection came to a
total of $2,587.00. Without your support, through both financial and prayerful means, our year would have been even more challenging. Your generosity
allows us to make not only these holidays special for our elderly residents, but also helps us to make each day they spend here in our Home full of happiness.
Thank you!
The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph My eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared
in the sight of all the peoples.
