“Answering God’s call to a life of service to His people”
Our priests and deacons unconditionally answer the call to serve God’s people meeting increasing needs throughout our Diocese. Contributions to the Annual Appeal fund ongoing formation of our priests, perma-nent deacons, seminarians and deacon candidates. These funds also help us care for and support our 96 retired or ill priests, many of whom continue to gener-ously assist with celebration of Masses, the visitation of the sick and by offering spiritual guidance to all in need. Appeal gifts also assist the Vocations Office, which has been blessed with encouraging growth, in guiding those who are considering priesthood through a comprehensive discernment process. We are grateful to currently have 13 seminarians pursuing the priest-hood in the Diocese of Scranton. Your gift to the An-nual Appeal directly supports the celebration of the Eucharist, men in clergy formation, proclamation of the Gospel, and administration of the Sacraments within our parish communities.
The Social Justice Committee will meet on Monday, October 9th, at 6:30pm in the Rectory meeting room. Future direction will be discussed.
The Altar & Rosary Society invites all women of the parish to attend their October 4th meeting. We will meet in Father Sammons Hall immediately following the 9:00 A. M. mass. Light refreshments will be served by Patti Gallagher & Shirley Type. A donation of non-perishable items for the Back Mountain Food Pantry will be appreciated.

Neighborhood News
St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Maple Ave., in Kingston, will host a talk on Dementia and the Caregiver, given by Sister Marilyn Karas, RSM on Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:00 PM in Bergan Hall. Dementia affects 5.4 million Americans—a figure which will rise dramatically as our ag-ing population grows. Pick a pumpkin, purchase a gift card in an amount of your choice, PLEASE MARK THE AMOUNT ON THE CARD and return it in the collection basket on the weekends of October 28/29 or Nov. 4/5. RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2017
The sanctity of every human life from conception to natural death is our common heritage, the foun-dation stone of justice. In the words of John XXIII, the task of every pub-lic authority is to “safeguard the inviolable rights of the human person”, beginning with life itself. Peace begins with justice. Justice is grounded in the sanctity of each and every human life. In conjunction with “Respect Life” Sunday, the Bottles for Babies campaign will begin this week. All donations will support the Pennsylvanians For Hu-man Life program in Wilkes-Barre. We ask that all bottles be returned by the weekend of Nov. 4-5, 2017. Thank you.
Gracious God and Father,
we enter into your presence realizing you know us better
than we know ourselves. You call us to holiness
and we trust you to lead us together on our journey
to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible.
Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son.
Liberate us from all that keeps us from you.
Heal us from every form of sin and violence.
Transform us to live your Word more profoundly.
Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families.
May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love,
freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice.
We believe you are doing something new,
calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life.
Amen.
It’s not too late! Please contact Denise Williams at 570-696-1144 ext. 29 to join an ARISE Faith Sharing Group!
