RESURRECTION-ASCENSION CHURCH, REGO PARK

Dear Friends,

Well, for months now we have focused on the Coronavirus

and its effects on all our lives. Then, it seems that almost in

an instant, the death of George Floyd and the subsequent

aftermath has shifted our attention. At his papal audience

this past Wednesday, Pope Francis addressed our country.

He said, “I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing

social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the

tragic death of Mr. George Floyd. We cannot tolerate or turn

a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of

every human life.” At the same time, we have to recognize that “the violence of recent nights

is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is

lost.” Pope Francis went on to pray for the repose of the soul of George Floyd, and to pray

for peace and reconciliation.

Indeed, we know that racism and bias is an evil that has plagued us for many years. We

can acknowledge both the progress made, as well as the distance we still need to go, to be

able to judge people “not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their charac-

ter.” The unrest in our own city can raise fears in all of us. But, as we pray for healing, can

we also take an honest look at our own consciences, and ask for forgiveness wherever we

find attitudes of bias and racism in ourselves? It could be racial or ethnic bias, or anything

that leads us to look at someone else and see them first as a threat, and not as a brother or

sister, created in the image and likeness of God.

Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. In many ways, this feast is about the

overwhelming love of God, known to us in the love of the Father, Son and Holy Spir-

it. Drawn into relationship with the Trinity, may we live a life of mercy, sacrifice and service,

as we bear witness to the life of the Trinity in our world today.

Finally, we offer special congratulations to the RACA graduating class of 2020. The last

few months have been different for them, but as they graduate this coming Friday, we ask

God’s blessings on them and their families. We pray that they have the courage to listen to

God’s call and bear witness to God’s love for all people!

Peace and blessings,

Father Tom

Queridos amigos,

No podemos

Paz y bendiciones,

Padre Tom

RA CATHOLIC ACADEMY NEWS

This Friday our 8th graders will be graduating virtually. Over half of the graduates

received scholarships to Catholic high schools, totaling over $300,000. Many of

them were accepted to specialized high schools and schools for the arts. A third of

the class is graduating as an honor graduate. They are an extremely bright group of

young men and women! But what I will remember most about them is their joy in

learning and giving, their kindness to one another, and their service to our school.

No ask was ever met with anything but a yes. We wish them all of the best as they

enter this new chapter in their lives!

TRINITY SUNDAY

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the

Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive

You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacra-

mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and

unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Oración para la Comunión Espiritual

Creo, Jesús mío, que estás real

y verdaderamente en el cielo

y en el Santísimo Sacramento del Altar.

Te amo sobre todas las cosas

y deseo vivamente recibirte

dentro de mi alma,

pero no pudiendo hacerlo

ahora sacramentalmente, ven al menos

espiritualmente a mi corazón.
