RESURRECTION-ASCENSION CHURCH, REGO PARK

Dear Friends, We are not gathering together in the physical church building right now. We are all trying to keep a “social distance” for the sake of everyone’s safety, to prevent the spread of the corona virus. So, we need to find other ways to communicate, to pray, to stay in touch and to care for each other. I am hoping you are able to go to our website to receive our church bulletin online. For those who cannot, there will be bulletins available at the church, which will be open for private prayer a good portion of each day. So, for now, let me share a few updates with you, and a reflection for this time. Father Conlon had his surgery. It went well. He is now recuperating at the Mugavero residence in Douglaston, where he will stay for a short while until he returns home. He is grateful for your prayers and he is praying for all of you. Our parish schedule: as of now, our office hours have remained the same. Our parish staff can keep a safe distance from each other, so we expect to keep the same hours for now. We have been live streaming the Mass via our parish Facebook account, as well as posting the daily Mass on our website WWW.RACHURCH.NET. We are planning to resume our regular weekday schedule this week, broadcasting the Mass live from the Convent chapel at 9AM. One Sunday Mass in English at 11 A.M., as well as the Sunday Mass in Spanish at 12:30 will be live streamed as well. Please tune in and unite with us in prayer! We also plan to live stream the Stations of the Cross at 4pm on Tuesday, and the Via Crucis in Spanish at 4:30pm on Tuesday. Each Mass or prayer event will be posted later to our parish website for viewing at any time. Our parish food pantry will continue to serve those in need at the usual times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to Noon. We are also exploring ways to hold committee meetings and some study groups via video or teleconference. Always check back at the parish website for updates and additional services. Now, let us refllect a little. How do we understand this time as a people of faith? We are in a time of crisis, and we may feel isolated, but we are never alone. Remember in the Gospel (Luke 8:22) when Jesus was asleep in the boat as the disciples encountered a storm at sea. They were frightened for their lives, and they begged him to save them. But he was always with them, and he calmed the storm. So, what are we called to do? Be like the disciples who turn to Jesus! Our choice is to live in fear or live in faith. So, let us live in faith, following all precautions, but aware that Jesus is always near us. Let this be a time where we use personal and family prayer to anchor our lives. Find a time each day when you can pray individually. If you are living with others, decide on a time each day when you can pray as a family. You can use the rosary; you can reflect together on the daily or Sunday Mass readings (find them at our website). Remember, also, to check on neighbors and family members who may be alone. Reach out to them with the hope and love of Jesus. We are not alone; God is always with us! Peace and blessings, Father Tom

MARCH 22, 2020

Salió bien, gracias a Dios. Entonces, ¿qué estamos llamados nosotros a hacer? Paz y bendiciones, Padre Tom

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known

that any one who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help

or sought thy intercession,

was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence,

We fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother;

to thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful

and sorrowful;

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,

despise not our petitions,

but in thy mercy hear and answer them. Amen.

do a tu protección, implorando tu asistencia, y recla-

acerco, yo, pecador contrito. Madre del Verbo En-

carnado, no desprecies mis palabras, antes bien

escúchalas y acógelas benignamente.

Amén

RA CATHOLIC ACADEMY NEWS

Our school is closed at least until April 20th. This week

our students began distance learning by using Google Classroom to get their lessons. The use of videos combined with direct assignments has been our main mode of instruction. Some teachers are setting up Zoom meetings or Google Meet Hangouts to meet with their children. Our teachers got this up and running with less than a day’s training, and they have done a great job so far. Our students have been happily working (some in their pajamas!) and are getting used to the new normal. Bravo to all!

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

BODY + BLOOD + SOUL + DIVINITY

(To be prayed while you are at home viewing Mass)

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.
