First Reading: Zechariah 12:10-11, 13:1 Zechariah describes the mourning that will occur over Jesus' crucifixion. The people of Jerusalem will mourn him as they would mourn an only son or a fallen king.

Second Reading: Galatians 3:26-29 Paul reinforces that all those who accept Christ are equal in God's eyes. Man or woman, Jew or Greek, is unimportant in God's eyes if you have true faith in Jesus.

Gospel: Luke 9:18-24 Jesus asks the disciples who they think he is. They reply that he is the Messiah. Jesus forbids them to tell this to others, and explains that first he must suffer, be put to death, and rise up on the third day. He explains to them that they also must be willing to suffer for his sake if they wish to be saved.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS: HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time - June 19, 2016

“For all of you were baptized into Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is no male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise, ‘Who do the crowds say

that I am?’”

The church is a catholic or universal church. The membership is widespread. We are multicultural, with varying languages, customs, traditions and experiences, yet we are one.

St. Paul addressed this reality in his letter. If he could speak to a single community in this way during the early days of the church, how much more so today. What a blessing is found in our diversity as we learn from one another. How special it is to find others journeying with Christ toward our final destination.

An archbishop looked up at a mosaic in a church and after admiring its beauty, called our attention to the richness produced by the blending of each and every stone. Were a stone missing, the beauty would be marred. If one fell out of place, the entire image would be diminished.

I am asked like Christ asked: ‘who am I in the church?’ I too am like a beautiful gem, placed here by God, to make His kingdom more beautiful by what I say and do. I, linked with others, am part of the body of Christ, to bring His presence to others. May we see the beauty of the church of Christ in each individual and reflect that beauty by our words and action.

Making All Things New Committee

The Making All Things New Committee (MATN) has been meeting since February to fully implement the merger of our current parishes into one parish community with two locations.

To that end, we recently met with Father Henry and have scheduled the following closing liturgies for each parish community:

St. Stanislaus Kostka:

Sunday, August 14 at 9 a.m.

St. Matthew: Sunday, August 21 at 12 Noon

Our Lady of Perpetual Help: Sunday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m.

All members of each parish are encouraged to attend these special liturgies to celebrate the life of that particular parish. Please invite former members of the parish who have moved away to come back and join us for that special day.

There will be an opening liturgy for our “new” parish on Sunday, September 11 at Noon, which will be held at St. Matthew Church. Following this liturgy, the annual parish picnic will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Ardsley.

We look forward to keeping everyone updated monthly through the bulletin as the planning process progresses. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have questions or comments.
