As we connue our pilgrimage of life, help us to become beer Chrisans on earth so that we may rejoice with you for ever in Heaven. To the Holy Trinity be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Fr Prem’s message: As you gather, having celebrated Ash Wednesday last Wednesday today we cele- brate the First Sunday in Lent. As we were reminded with the ashes; ‘remember we are dust and unto dust we shall return’ is not just to rubbish us, and say that we are useless and worthless, but it is to say that in God’s creative hands we are everything, a precious child of God. It is never God’s desire to aban- don us. But we must be careful, we can have god’s of our own making, not the God of History, not the God of Abraham, Jacob….not the God Christ in a unique way made known to us. Hence we must not be fooled. The scientific truth; life decays, and be reduced to dust is an undisputed reality. Lent as I said and shall repeat during the season of lent is a very privileged, graceful time. It invites us to enter into a retreat. It invites us to be introspective, self critical, look at our own lives first. It is very easy to point the figure at other and find reasons and excuses for our own way of life. But lent invites us to just look at our own selves. What we say and do. It invites us in a unique way to spend time in prayer, self control and restrain. It invites us to engage in acts of mercy; giving alms, visiting the sick, caring to those in need. But this is done not simply in an altruistic behaviour - behaviour with a love for the other, but rather with a love for God, testing as to where do our lives rest in our relationship to God, as a child of God. Any other wonderful, fabulous, breath taking interpretations to Lent might run a risk! It is customary that people like to give up things, at times might not be for the love God. But we also can take on things to do. Lenten weekday masses, readings can be very inspiring, would you like to try it! CAFOD Lent Family Fast Day ~ Friday 15th March At Mass today we will hear of the problems of a woman and her family living in a coastal area of Bangladesh with many thousands of similar families. They rely on rice and fish for food. Cyclones are common, salty sea water floods the rice fields and last year's drought killed all the fish. Working through the local church CAFOD experts know where they are, know they need help and know how to help them survive. On Family Fast Day next Friday we are invited to eat simply and give the money we save to help CAFOD connue their work. We are all invited to share in the abundance that God has given us. Please collect your Fast Day envelope when leaving church today and give what you can at next week's rering collecon. Last autumn our parish raised £1,062 so let's see if we can beat that figure this me! Thank you to everyone. Your giſts will change lives. The first Feast Day of our new Saint Oscar Romero, falls on the Third Sunday of Lent, 24 March: We pray for jusce and peace for all peoples in our communies and across the world: that we may be inspired on his feast day by the courageous example of the bishop and martyr, St Oscar Romero.
