The Word of God says faith without works is dead, being alone, (James 2:17). Jesus asked why do we callHim Lord, Lord and do not the things that He tells usto do, (Luke 6 : 46).

Elisha was praying for a double portion of Elijah'sanointing to rest upon him. Elijah was quick to tellElisha that he must see him when he 'was taken awayif he wanted the request to be granted, (II Kings 2 :9).

He asked a hard saying, but if he would follow closelyand be led by the Spirit he would see the results.

The same thing is true in receiving the answer to ourprayers. We must seek to be led by the Spirit of God inall things and follow close to the Lord.It is not that I-Ie can't answer our prayers. He worksfor us as we are closely yielded to Him in cooperationwith His plans. Sometimes we may have a part in thepattern which God uses to answer our prayers. Forinstance, if we pray for the Lord to increase our SundaySchool, we may have a part in bringing this about. Ifwe pray for the Lord to supply our neighbor's need, Hemay use us to help do this very thing.

We lay our hands on the sick, and say, "Be thou madewhole," but we do not lay our hands on the poor peoplethat are starving and say, "Be thou clothed or be thoufilled," (James 2:16).

Must we cooperate with the Lord '!Just as Elisha cooperated with the plan of the Lord,

and received the same spirit that was upon Elijah, sowe may cooperate with the Lord and receive the sameSpirit that was upon Jesus, (John 14 :16-26).

Just as Elisha could not receive Elijah's anointinguntil Elijah went up, so the disciples could not receivethe Holy Spirit until Jesus ascended to heaven, (John16:17).

Just as Elisha had to follow closely to Elijah, :';0 wemust follow closely to Jesus, i r we want the anointingwhich was upon our blessed Lord.

Elisha knew that he could. But it seemed that hecould not get anyone else to agree with him.

Had the woman believed the miracle could have hap-pened at a distance, the child could have been raised tolife. Of course, she expected Elisha to come over to herhouse. She had it in her mind that way, and would notaccept the answer any other way.Elisha knew the power of God could gowith his staff. He gave his staff to Gehazi, his servant, and told him togo lay it on the dead boy's body. The woman would not accept it that way. She wouldnot leave Elisha until he went in person.

If any two people on earth will agree as touching any-thing they shall ask, it shall be done for them of myFather which is in heaven, (Matt. 18:18).

Some people accept a miracle at a distance. Others willnot, (Matt. 8:8). Some believe the power of God goeswith the aprons and, handkerchiefs, (Acts 19 :11-12).Others will not accept the answer to their prayers in thisway. Some people believe that the power of God may betransferred through a man's garment, (Luke 8 :43-47).Others are not able to accept deliverance in that way.

Elisha was a man of faith. He prayed without ceasing.I-Ieknew he had the anointing of God in his body. Heknew the anointing would have gone with his staff hadthe woman accepted the answer that way. He even hadenough virtue in his bones to raise the dead man backto life again, This was after Elisha was buried, (II Kings13:12).Can doubts creep in and hinder answers t.o prayer? It is good for the man of God to pray. But you must prayalso and not depend altogether on a man doing all yourpraying. This week I talked to a man who had been deafin one ear for over thirty years. He was healed instantly.I told him he must pray and have' faith also in order toretain his healing after he obtained it.When I';lisha promised 1 ho woman that the little ladywould bear 1\ SOil, ~11l ' said, "Nay , my Lord, thou manof God. Do not lie unto thine handmaiden," (T1 Kings

If we can see by the Spirit of God that Jesus resur-rected from the grave and went back to heaven; if wecan understand by the Spirit that He gave us the giftsas He ascended (Eph, 4 :8), then we can accept what Hehas given to us and dothe work He did, and even greaterworks, (John 14:12).

Just as Elisha did twice as many works as Elijah, sothe church can do twice the works that Jesus did.If we want the anointing Jesus had, we must keepour eyes upon Him continuously.

We must not stop at Bethel, Jericho, or even Jordan.Let's believe that we can, with the anointing, even dothe works that Elisha did.If we are seeking for a greater anointing, then wemust read the Bible. Itwould help you to read my book,"How to Receive a Double Portion."

Will God do the same works for us that He did forElijah?

Elisha prayed for a woman who supplied his needs byfurnishing him a table, bed and lamp. God gave thiswoman a son. He told her in advance that the child wouldbe born.

That very thing has come to pass in our day. Wehave several testimonies that God has given barrenwomen, children, as we united in prayer.

The man or woman who ministers to the man of Godand supplies his material needs, has every right to expectto receive miracles in answer to the prayers of the sameman of God, (I Cor. 9 :11).

Later on, when the woman's child died, she immedi-ately went to Elisha for a miracle. Elisha felt that heowed the woman something for her kindness to him. Heremembered her kindness. He knew the Word of God istrue, which teaches, "Give and it shall be given untoyou."

SoElisha went into the house and shut the door. Whenhe prayed unto the Lord, the child was raised to lifeagain, (II Kings 4:32-33).

Could not Elisha have prayed at a distance and ob-tained the same resuJts?

4: 16). She let a little fear creep in. Can that be the reasonthe boy died later on?Even when the child died she said, "Did I desire a son

of my Lord? Did I not say, 'Do not deceive me'?" (IIKings 4 :28).Even Job let a little strange fear come upon him andexperienced an attack by the enemy, (Job 3 :25).Even after you experience a miracle in your life, you

must still resist the devil through faith. Stand fast inthe faith, quit ye like men and be ye strong. After you pray, is it sometimes advisable for you tocall for someone else to help you pray'!The lady did not pray alone for her son. She called forthe man of God. Elisha responded. He added his prayers

to her prayers. The boy was raised from the dead. The command in the New Testament is for us to callfor the elders of the church when we need healing. We

are instructed to pray for one another, (James 5 :14-16).Why did Elisha find it necessary to shut everyone outof the room?Elisha was alone when he raised the widow's son back

to life. Jesus allowed no one to be in the house with Himas he raised a girl to life. Peter put the people out of thehouse before he raised Dorcas, (Acts 9: 40). Itseems thatPaul was alone when he raised the young man back tolife, (Acts 20:10).

People can add their prayers along with yours, but ifsome people are present in the room with you, there is amixture of grief, sympathy, anxiety, emotion, fear andsuch like, which hinders true faith from having its per-fect work. We must be in one accord for some miraclesto be performed.

Is it all right to expect instant answers to our prayers? While the answer seems sometimes delayed, 1 believe

we should always expect an instant answer. We may notalways see it with our eyes, but we can feel the answer inour soul. To keep praying in such cases sometimes hindersthat assurance. You can't believe two opposite things atone time.

Elisha put in his petition, then he stopped praying and4

began to walk back and forth across the room looking- forlife in the child. It is all right to test people after we pray for them tosee if there is a visible result. We need to expect resultswhen we pray. Faith without works is dead, being alone. We also teach the one whom we pray for to expect im-mediate healing. Is it ever in order for us to pray for the spiritual giftsto operate in our lives? Some people say that since we can see spiritual giftsoperate in the services, that praying is unnecessary. Butit is necessary for us to be a man of prayer in order thatthe gifts may keep operating in our lives. As we pray wekeep ourselves in a spiritual condition, so we can discernwhen the gifts are actually working in our services.God says for us to desire spiritual gifts, (I Cor. 14 :1).He said for us to earnestly contend for the faith oncedelivered to the saints, (Jude 1). The Syrian King senthis army down to get Elisha because he found thatElisha knew his military secrets. I-Ie may have thoughtElisha was using black magic in order to know themovements of his army. As the king's army surroundedElisha, the servant of the man of God became panicky.Elisha calmly awoke from sleep and put in three peti-tions to God. He prayed for the demonstration of threeof the nine gifts of the Spirit. He prayed for the gift of the discerning of spiritsto operate through his servant, so his servant could seeinto the spirit world, and see that they had more on theirside than were against them. The Lord opened the eyesof the young man and let him see that the mountainswere full of chariots of fire all around Elisha, (II Kings6 :17).He prayed for the gift of miracles to operate and strikethe army blind. All the soldiers became blind, so they hadto be led about.Elisha also prayed for the gift!'l of healing to operatein healing them of their blindness. Prayers do very littlefor us if we (10 not expect the operation of the gifts ofthe Spirit when we pray. 5

Must we have fruit with our gifts"!After the gifts operated through Elisha the fruit of

the Spirit was also manifested. Divine love caused himto free his enemies and let all those soldiers go homeagain.

The gift of discerning of spirits will help us to seegood spirits as well as evil spirits. There are more goodspirits than there are evil ones, (Heb. 1:14; Matt. 18:3-10; Psalms 34 :7).There is something wrong with a man who can onlydiscern spirits that are against us, and not discern spiritsthat are on our side. He needs his spiritual eyes opened. When we can see the power that is with us, we will per-ceive that they that be with us are more than they thatbe with them.

We find all the gifts of the spirit, except two, in opera-tion in one day in the sixth chapter of II Kings. There-fore, these two gifts are the only gifts that would beevidence of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost in our day.

Why pray if angels are about us to protect us? Theirprotection is not automatic. They guard those people whobelieve and use their faith. What the angels actually dois governed by our prayers and our faith. .

Jesus said if He prayed, twelve legions of angels wouldcome and protect Him. As He communed with the Fatherin the wilderness, angels came and ministered to Him.

As Daniel prayed for weeks, an angel was sent to hisrescue. As H church made prayer unto God withoutceasing for Peter, an angel came and delivered him fromprison. As Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises to Godat midnight, an angel came and rocked the prison walls. These men were free. Angels are ministering spirits thatbring the answer to our prayers which we make to God.

Is it sometimes in order for us to helieve for divinejudgments to come upon the people who pervert 1 he wayof the LOI'd'! .

Paul spoke the word, and a man was struck blind,(Acts 18:11). Paul turned two men over to Satan for thedestruction of the flesh, (lTim. 1 :20). He told us to dothe same thing, (I Cor. f):5). Elisha prayed and a whole

army was struck blind. Moses cried to Cod and the earthopened up and swallowed 250 families. Peter spoke theword and saw a man and his wife fall dead because theylied to God, (Acts 5 :1-6).

We must do this only as the Holy Ghost searches outthe deep things of God and prays through us.Is it true that people who pray many times never seemto helieve that God has heard them pray? One womantold a preacher that God would not hear her pray. Shesaid, "God has not answered my prayer. He doesn't hearme any more."

This preacher asked her why she did not curse. Shesaid, "Itwould be displeasing to the Lord." 'lhe preachersaid, "What kind of God are you serving? Are youserving- a God that hears you curse but won't even listenwhen you pray'!" God doesn't only make a record of ourbad deeds, but He writes our good deeds down in lIsbook also, (II Cor. 5 :10). God told Cornelius that hisprayers and alms had come up as a memorial before thethrone, (Acts 10:31).Peter did not stay awake all night pacing- the floorafraid his head was going to be cut off. He committedeverything to Gael and laid down and went to sleep be-tween two soldiers, (Acts 12).Daniel die! not walk the floor all night, scrcaminz forGod to protect him from the lions. While the king was tossing and rolling, Daniel wasresting in the blessed assurance. While your lost lovedones are rolling and tossing, you can rest assured thatGod is answering your' prayer.

Is it in order to pray for God to give us a revelation?Daniel prayed for the Lord to show him the meaninz'"of the king's dream. This is praying for the manifesta-tions of the word of knowledge.Another time when Daniel wanted to know the mind

of the Lord, he searched the Scriptures for God's plan,(Jer. 25:11-12; Daniel 9:2).Even though God has used you in a great way, you

don't need to ask for a revelation, when a revelationhas already been given. The Lord says for us to searchthe Scriptures, (John 5:39). He tells us to study to showourselves approved unto God, a workman that needethnot to be ashamed, (II Tim. 2:15). Daniel was a man ofprayer, but he was also a scholar. They go together.Prayer is no good unless it is based on the Word of God.The Word does little good without a life of prayer behindit. If we don't know the Scripture plus the power ofGod, we greatly err, (Matt. 22-29).

With the proper understanding of the Word, and know-illg tho mind of the Lord, Daniel gave himself to prayingfOI"the revelation concerning the nation of Israel, (DanielD .) The Scriptures give us an understanding what Godwants us to pray fur.

Must we pray for God to forgive our sin?If you sin you know it. Hyou don't know it, you have

not sinned, (James 4:l7). If you have sinned, you ofcourse, should ask God to forgive you. If you have notsinned, do not condemn yourself by saying you havesinned. God does not expect us to confess something weha ve not done.

Daniel was without fault before the throne of God.Yet he prayed and said "We have sinned". (Daniel9 :4-5).

He was confessing the sins of the nation that had beensold into captivity. He was not confessing his own per-sonal sins in this case. In the Lord's prayer we are taught

to say "Forgive our sins." This is a collective petition, asit is when we are praying for the whole church body. When you become an intercessor, you have the spiritof Christ. Then you are willing to intercede for thepeople who have failed. You are actually willing to taketheir place, even as Christ took our place, (Romans 9: 3 ;Exodus 32:32). When we take on the spirit of Christ weare actually willing to trade places with those who arebound by sin. Of course you cannot. But this is the lovethat you have for them as you feel the same spirit ofcompassion that Christ had.Are we to confess our faults in prayer?A fault is not a sin. A mistake is not a sin. Yet weare ever to acknowledge our faults and seek to adjustthem if we are to find the answer to our prayer. "Confessyour faults one to another and pray one for another thatyou may be healed," (James 5:16).Far too many people justify themselves when theyhave not seen the answer to their prayers. They take noresponsibility. They put all the blame on God for notanswering their prayers. If you turn your light switch on and your lights refuseto shine, do you blame the light company? No. You firstlook for a broken wire, a thrown switch or a blown-outfuse in your house. How many people have you seen whosay, "I have done my part. I don't know why God doesnot answer my prayer. I'll get healed when God getsready to heal me."That is the same thing as saying, "I have done my partbut God has failed on His side of the contract." That isan insult to God and to God's Word and it will hinderyour prayers from being answered.Daniel did not put the blame on the Lord for thecaptivity of his people. He searched for the trouble andfound it. He confessed to God that his nation was toblame. This kind of praying brought results, (Daniel9 :4-5). He confessed that his people were stiffnecked andrebellious.A prayer like that brings results. Before Daniel wasthrough praying an angel brought the answer to his

prayer. He had received a promise that his people wouldreturn to their homeland and that the holy city wouldbe rebuilt. He was given the promise that Jesus theSaviour would be born, (Daniel 9 :23).

Why do we use the term "prayer warrior"?Every intercessor knows that praying is a warfare.

The Holy Spirit fights through us. The prince and powerof the air fights against the Holy Spirit in you, whileyou are praying. We fight not against flesh and bloodbut against spiritual powers in high places, (Eph. 6 :12).

Daniel interceded in prayer for three weeks, scarcelyeating anything; the angel brought the answer to hisprayer. Daniel was informed that the prince of Persiahad withstood him and hindered the answer, (Dan.10:12).

We need to be like Daniel, who would not give up, butbattle it out till the answer comes. God has given us thepower in prayer to ask and keep on asking, knock andkeep on knocking, seek and keep on seeking. Is it necessary to pray persistent prayers?

Daniel was used to getting his prayers answered. Heformed a habit of never quitting until the answer came, regardless of how long the answer tarried. A quitternever wins and a winner never quits. He expected some-thing to happen and it did.

J list because the answer is delayed is no sign that Godhas not answered your prayer. Why did Daniel have power in prayer?First, he was temperate in all things. He would not

defile himself with the king's meat. Ile chose friends thatwould also join him in prayer. He had a regular timeto pray. He kept his regular prayer hour, even at therisk of his own life. This resulted in the conversion ofKing Nebuchadnezzar to the religion of the true God.Daniel knew that a hap-hazard, lazy way of praying, only when it was convenient, was no way to fight super-natural powers and gain the victory over the power ofdarkness. He set us an example that we should do like-wise.

Do we need spiri tual repair sometimes?

Christ gave His disciples the great commission toevangelize the world. I-Ie told them to first tarry untilthey received power from God to do this, (Luke 24: 49) .

In short, they closed down for spiritual repairs. Theydelayed their public meetings until they received powerto be witnesses to Him to the uttermost parts of the earth. We receive preparation and power in prayer to go againstthe forces that fight against those who go to evangelizethe world.

These disciples communed with God about ten daysbefore they received the power to witness. They knewthat it was very important for the Holy Ghost power tocome. They knew another apostle must be chosen to re-place Judas. That is why they tarried in God's presence. They were sitting in an act of worship, not in an act ofbegging. Not offering the prayer of petition, but a moreeffective prayer than that. They were in prayer of com-munion and worship which gave strength and faith forthe future of the church. They were in this act when theHoly Ghost came upon them and endued them withpower to carryon the ministry that Jesus left off.Is a regular prayer hour necessary for the church '?

The disciples did not depend on the prayers theyprayed before they received the Holy Ghost. They didnot try to let the gifts of the Spirit take the place ofprayer. They did not depend on praying only as theyfound time. They followed the example of the GreatTeacher and formed a regular hour of prayer, the sametime each day. Some people criticize a form of godliness. 1t was theform without the power that the lord condemned, (IITim. 3). A form is good if it has the power. A form forconcrete is good if it has the concrete. God first formedman before He breathed the breath of life into him. Aform of godliness is all right if it has God; if it has thebreath of life breathed into it, (Acts 3:1-iq.All people have habits either good or bad. A regularhour of prayer is a good habit and a must for the church. If you miss a regular time to pray twice, your burden ofprayer is likely to leave. "And thev that gladly received

His word were baptized and the same day were addedunto them about 3,000 souls. And they continued stead-fastly in the apostle's doctrine and fellowship and inbreaking of bread and in prayers," (Acts 2 :41-42).

As the church prayed a regular time each day, 3,000people were added to the Lord in one day, and 5,000another. We don't know how many more kept being addedday by day, (Acts 2:47).

Is it all right for all the people to pray aloud at onetime? The early church people did. Teaming thousands of

them lifted up their voice to God in one accord, (Acts4:24) .The earth was shaken. The Lord granted signs and

wonders to be done in the name of the Holy Child Jesus. Some argue that God will get confused and cannot

understand a mass prayer. Up in heaven, all the peopleare worshipping God at one time, (Rev. 19: 1-6). Howcan God hear the millions of people over the world whoare leading their congregations in prayer on Sunday~orni~g? How can He hear the millions who are prayingIn their homes before they go to bed at night? It is not the words that the Lord is concerned with. Itis the faith in the people's hearts that registers in heaven.

ltcad Ezra 3: 10-13 and see if you can measure up evento the Old Testament religion. Read Psalms, chapter 150and see if David did not put you to shame.

God gauges YOLI from H spiritual meter, or ther-mometer, in heaven alld IIO! from the words that youutter from a printed prayer booI< , or from your lips, orthat come into your mind. Would you want your littlechildren to make a request of you From il printed prayerbook every day'!

Is it in order to pray for miracle, Hig'n,~ lind wonders? We must follow the pattern till' l'llrly church set for us.The Holy Spirit made them to kuuw what would win

the people to God. You can't willl('1'I1'Ilf'cetivelv to theworld unless you can produce Il lil"llt'ic:-I,signs and won-ders by your prayers. You must produce the evidence. If you tell them that Jesus is alive, they will rightfullv

    I~

expect Him to confirm the Word as proof, (Acts 1:3; Mk.16 :16-18). They will say, "If He is alive, let Him per-form the same works He did before He was crucified andwe will believe Him."Use the prayer pattern the early church used, if youwant your church to have a real revival. "And whenthey had prayed, the place was shaken where they wereassembled together and they were all filled with theHoly Ghost and thy spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of oneheart and of one soul. Neither said any of them thatought of the things which he possessed were his own,but they had all things in common. And with great powergave the apostles witness of the resurrection of theLord Jesus and great grace was upon them ali," (Acts4 :31-33).Will the enemy fight against the hour of prayer?

Satan knows that if He can destroy the hour of prayerthat He can destroy the church and the life of faith. Sohe will send every force he can to keep one from thehour of prayer. He knows that the prayer hour willdestroy every beachhead he starts. So, he will try todestroy the prayer hour.If Satan possesses one with jealousy, covetousness, anger, hatred or an unforgiving spirit the prayer hourwill nip it off in the bud before it begins to grow. Thatit why Satan will work overtime using every schemeto keep us from praying'.Satan tried to get the disciples too busy with smallerthings to give themselves to prayer. "Then the twelvecalled the multitude of the disciples unto them and said,'It is not reason that we should leave the worn of Godand serve tables. Wherefore brethren, look ye out amongyou seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghostand wisdom whom we may appoint over the business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and tothe ministry of the word," (Acts 6 :2-4).Satan will try to get us to become too busy with eventhings that are legitimate. lle will try to get us electedto a high office that will take LIP our time working for

into a form if we don't do a lot of praying before wesay, "Receive ye the Holy Ghost", or before we say, "Inthe name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise and walk."Even when I am prayed up, I am not led by the spiritto lay hands upon some folks who come for the HolyGhost. I perceive that they have not been praying. Theyare carnal and are not connected with the Spirit. Theydo not have faith to receive the Holy Ghost. This experi-ence comes through faith, even as healing does.If you want the Holy Ghost to be effective you mustdevelop a prayer life. Before Peter and John laid handson the Samaritans to receive the Holy Ghost, they prayed,

Must praying' precede a revival'!Paul prayed three days and nights seeking God just

before he received the Holy Ghost. Ananias prayed insecret before he laid hands on Paul to receive the HolySpirit baptism, (Acts 9 : 11). Cornelius did much pray-ing in secret before he received the Holy Ghost.

"A devout man and 'one who feared God with all ofhis house, which gave much alms to the people andprayed to God always." He saw in a vision, evidentlyabout the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God came tohim and said, Cornelius, and when he looked on him hewas afraid and said, What is it Lord? and he said untohim, Thy prayers and thy alms are come up for a memo-rial before God, (Acts 10 :2-4)."And Cornelius said four days ago 1was fasting untilthis hour and at the ninth hour I prayed in my houseand behold a man stood before me in bright clothing andsaid, Cornelius thy prayer is heard and thy alms arehad in remembrance in the sight of God," (Acts 10:30-31) .It doesn't have to be a prayer of begging or a prayer

of petition, but you need to be in the act of worship andcommunion with God. You don't necessarily have to beasking God to give you things, but .i ust be in connectionand communion with God before you receive the HolyGhost; then after you receive the Holy Ghost that needsto be .i ust the beginning of your prayer life.

Even JeSU:5was praying before He received the Bap-15

the church, so we will lose out in our prayer life. He willtry to get a church so busy with programs, weddings, conferences and meetings that it will have no time leftto pray.

Peter and John were busy men, but they found timeto attend the hour of prayer each day. That is why theycould say to the lame man, "Arise and walk." Prayer isthe highest ministry of the church. Intercession is thehighest ministry that anyone can have, because ourblessed Lord is interceding right now with the Fatherfor us. When the Holy Spirit is interceding through usbringing God's will to pass in our lives, that is unselfishprayer; it is called the perfect prayer.

They appointed someone else to serve tables. Theywould not let even beatings, whippings and imprisonmentkeep them from being faithful to their God of prayer. They would not cease to preach in the Name. They re-ceived the power to be really bold in prayer, (Acts 4 : 3).Satan wouldn't have cared so much for them preachingin the Name, had they not backed this ministry up withfaithful prayer.

Must one pray in order to receive the Holy GhostBaptism? You don't need to pray for God to send the Holy Ghost.

That would be a lack of faith, since He has already givenus tho IIoly Ghost, (Acts 2 :33). We need to do a lot ofpraying to be connected and have faith to receive whatHe has already given, (John 20:22).

I must be much in prayer in order to have faith toimpart the gift to others. It comes through faith, (Gal.3 :2-5). If I will give myself continually to prayer asdid Paul, Peter, Ananias and others, then the HolyGhost will be given immediately upon the laying on ofhands, (Acts 8:15-17; 9:17; 19:6).

I talked to a priest of the Episcopal church. He toldme they have hundreds of ministers who lay hands onpeople as did the apostles, and say, "Receive ye the HolyGhost." But nothing happens. They have not backed itup by earnest prayer, as did the apostles. Ithas become aform of godliness, denying the power thereof. We can get

tism of the Holy Ghost, (Luke 3 :21). If it is not needfulfor you to pray, then YOLlare better than Jesus. Youneed to pray; you need to receive the Holy Ghost; youmust do most of your praying afterwards.

God operates as we have faith. He has not promised toprotect those who are too busy to pray. If doubts andfears keep YOLlrom prayer, they may also keep you fromdeliverance. If you really believe that God will deliveryou, then you will pray.

Notice in the Bible that the apostle James was be-headed. Herod saw that it pleased the Jews, so he hadPeter put in prison, intending to have his head cut offthe next morning, (Acts 12).

The church made prayer unto God without ceasing forPeter. An angel was sent to deliver him. God will notautomatically keep us from harm if we do not pray.

Peter had prayed at a certain hour each day before-hand. God remembered him. The Holy Spirit intercededthrough the church. No doubt, had the church giventhemselves to an all night prayer for James there wouldhave been another chapter written to the life story ofthe apostle James.

woman in times past, (II Kings 4 :16).When we see that a minister's word comes to pass, our

faith in his prayers is made stronger. When Jesus was aman ministering to the people, with the anointing of theHoly Spirit, as we should do, He asked one who camefor healng, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"Many people believe that God is able to work, but theylack confidence in the minister, that he has the power ofGod in his life. They fail to believe that he has the rightconnection with the powerhouse above.Because people had seen great miracles wrought byPaul, they believed that they could carry aprons fromhis body, put them on the devil-possessed and sick, andsee them recover, (Acts 19: 11). It was as they expected. They did not have this confidence in Luke's ministry.

Why did Hezekiah believe Isaiah's message?Isaiah had brought a message from God to King Heze-

kiah before. This king of Judah had seen the nation de-livered according to the word that the man of God spoke. Now as Hezekiah was sick unto death, after God senthim a message that he would die, Isaiah brought himthe message, "I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thytears beholo I will add unto thy days fifteen years."

This king had great confidence in God's man. He knewIsaiah was a man of faith. lIe knew he was a man ofGod. Isaiah had never' lold him wrong. He accepted themessage. lIe received his healing and lived an extrafifteen years uf'tcr Cod Raid he would die.

but one. All but one were filled with the Holy Ghost,(Acts 8). The gift of miracles was not manifested forSimon. Rather it was the gift of discerning of spirits, which pronounced the judgment on Simon.

Isaiah had always carried a message of hope to KingHezekiah. But behold, when he received a word ofknowledge for the king this time, it was not a messageof deliverance at all. Rather it was a message of death. It is enough for us to pray for the gifts to be mani-fested through us. It is for God to say which gift ismanifested, (I Cor. 12:11).Hezekiah did not seem to become angry at the preach-er. He accepted the message of destruction as he hadbeen accepting the message of deliverance. What must we do when God reveal .. to us a messageof gloom? That is a good question. Many people have come to me,telling me the Lord showed them destruction was comingtheir way. My answer to them was this: God has a pur-pose in showing you. He expects you to pray and preventthe destruction from coming. Else He wouldn't haveshown you the future.Only night before last, the Lord revealed to me ina dream that the United States Government was passinga ruling that would mean the Full Gospel works of de-liverance would be greatly curtailed in America. I stayedawake and prayed until I felt the assurance that thisnew ruling would be curtailed.

The Lord has one purpose in revealing coming calamityto us. He expects us to let the Holy Spirit intercedethrough us and prevent the calamity from coming.

Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, away fromhuman help. He prayed against the impossibilities. Hefound that all things are possible to them that believe.Nothing shall be impossible unto you, (Matt. 17 :24) .

He became desperate. He saw his condition. lIe threwhimself on God's mercy. I-Ie prevailed. When we cometo this place, when we see our helplessness, then the HolySpirit begins to intercede and do our praying for us.That is the perfect prayer. The Spirit searches out the

    20

deep things of God, prays according to God's will, andcauses all things to work together for good to them thatlove God and to those which are caIJed according to Hispurpose, (Romans 8 :26-32). When God's perfect will isdone, no one is cut off in the midst of his days, (Isaiah38:10).

Does prayer do much good without obedience? The spirit of God sent Hezekiah a message to go to

the house of God the third day. Why did he not go tothe house of God the first day? Because God did not tellhim to do so.

Must one arise and walk as soon as he is prayed for?If the spirit directs him to do so, he must. In most

cases one should drop his crutches and begin walking assoon as he is prayed for; however, it is the Spirit thatheals. It is the Spirit that directs. Obey the Great Phy-sician; then He alone will receive the glory.

The other night I prayed for a lady in a wheel chair.I commanded her to rise and walk right there and shedid. I prayed for another lady. I did not feel led to sayone thing. While I was praying for others she came tome and said, "I am healed!" She was walking for thefirst time in ten years.

Last revival I prayed for a man in a wheel chair. Wesaw no results. In this revival he came with a testimonyhe was healed. When you are prayed for, listen to thevoice of the Spirit. When you pray for others, listen tothe voice of the Spirit. It is God that directs. It is Godthat heals.God heals you to serve Him. The king went to God'shouse after he recovered. The prayer of faith destroysthe spirit of affl iction, or the infirm spirit. then youregain your strength.

Next you go to God's house. Give God the glory. Goand sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you, (John5). Don't be like the nine lepers who never returned togive God the glory, (Luke 17). The pagans say thatthey don't need to assemble themselves together andworship God. They say they worship Cod in nature, or inthe forest. Some people who profess to be Christians tell

us they can stay away from church and worship God inthe forest. They are doing as the pagans do. We mustworship Goel in spirit and in truth, and not in nature,(John 4 :23). You don't worship the Lord in nature. Anatural mind is not subject to the law of God. Itcannotbe, (Romans 8) .Should we pray for the impossible'?

With God, nothing shall be impossible. A number oftimes God has showed me trouble would hit our family.Instead of worrying myself to death, 1 prayed it out ofthe way and prevented it from coming.Always in the past when God said someone would die,it came to pass. God set a certain time for Hezekiah todie. God's Word had to be true. Why didn't he die whenthat time came? Because that time did not come, for Godstopped time! (II Kings 20: 11). Time was stopped untilHezekiah was a well man again.Heaven and earth will pass away before God's Wordwill fail. The power of death must respect God's Word.Time will stop before the faith of God. Your world willbe changed in order to fit into God's Word and His faith. The law of nature will be reversed. Gravitation respectsGod's Word until Peter can walk on the water, until theiron can swim and the Red Sea can roll back!Time steps back and bows its head in submission toeternity. Time shall be no longer. God's Word is eternal. It is from everlasting to everlasting. We are in eternitynow.Did not lhe New Testnment ministers just commandthe sickness without prayer ?They did nothing without prayer, strictly speaking. You don't see Je1\U!Ior 1\1IY o r the apostles praying longand loud over the sick p rxon. They laid hands on them,or gave them a command lind the sick were healed. How-ever both Jesus and th npostlcs did much praying be-fore'they arrived on th scene. That is why they hadsuch an anointing and authority to command the devilto depart ..Peter prayed before 1)(\ gave the command for Dorcasto rise from the dead. (Acts !) :40). Peter had already

    22

been on the housetop in prayer; so the people were filledwith the Holy Ghost at the house of Cornelius while hewas yet speaking. Peter was faithful in the hour ofprayer; so he merely shook hands with the lame man atthe Beautiful Gate and said, "In the name of JesusChrist of Nazareth, rise and walk."

Even though your pastor is busy ministering to hisflock, yet you may call him when you are sick. Althoughhe has had no time to be much in prayer, yet he maypray over you in the name of the Lord; and you willhave your sins forgiven and recover from your sickness.

Should one call for another to pray when he is introuble?

As much as possible he should do his own praying. Heshould bear his own burden and let the other man bearhis burden, (Galatians 6:2-5).

When a man is going through trials and temptationshe can usually pray. IIe is in his right mind. With everytemptation that comes to you, there also comes grace tomake you able to bear it, (lCor. 10:13). God never letsus be tempted above that which we are able.

    When one is afflicted he should pray. When he is sickhe is instructed to call for the elders of the church.If you have a finger cut with a knife, you are normaland your faith is strong. You can pray. If you are sick;

if you are so sick that you cannot exercise faith for your-self, then you need the help of others. You don't need toask others to do what you can do yourself. Do your ownpraying as much as possible and you will grow in theLord. This will strengthen you. Also, this will help thepreacher to use his valuable time in helping other peoplewho are weak. They need to be to the place where theycan grow in the Lord so their faith can be exercised also.

What must we do when there i" no answer to prayer?Your iniquities can separate you from your God soHe will not hear you. YOLI may have an evil spirit ofjealousy, rebellion, murmuring, complaining or unbelief.

Miriam murmured against her leader which hinderedher healing. Epaphroditus was Paul's helper. He didnot break a moral law. but he broke the law of health.

He overworked his body although he was in God's work.David committed an immoral sin, so God did not hear

him when he prayed for his sick child, (II Sam. 12 : 11).The Lord says a quarrel between husband and wifecan hinder their prayers from being answered.

The answer is simple. The Lord said for us to confessour faults one to another and pray one for another thatwe may be healed, (James 5 : 16). He will forgive all ouriniquities and heal all of our diseas ;. (Psalms 103:1-3).Suppose the answer is slow to come after one has madethings righ t ?That is the time to get in earnest. We are men of likepassions as Elijah, (James 5 :17). He prayed earnestly. He prayed six times, yet there was no sign of rain.Things were still dry and dusty. It was a discouragingsight for the natural man. The servant made a path to thesea six times, but he returned with the discouragingreply, "There is nothing." Elijah kept praying until heknew his prayer was answered. He had the assurance inhis heart. When we seek God with our whole heart He will befound, (Jeremiah 29:13). Everyone that continues toseek shall find. (Luke 11:10). If you keep knocking, itshall be opened.Daniel set his face like a flint. lie refused to give up.Ire sought God three weeks. He defeated the Prince ofPersia that tried to hold back the answer.

As we see these things come to pass, we must look upand rejoice. Prayer with praise will win the victory,(Psalms 37 :4). We must enter into His presence withpraise. Let your request be known with thanksgiving.

We are to pray always that we may be counted worthyto escape these things that are coming upon the world,(Luke 21 :36). We are to pray that the Lord will sendlaborers into the harvest, (Luke 10 ::2). We are to askof the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain, (Zach,10: 1). If we ask of the Lord, IIe will give us the heathenfor our inheritance, (Psalms 2 :8). When the cries of'God's people enter into the ears of the Lord, He will sendand reap the harvest of the world, (James 5 :1-7). The

    24

world will never be evangelized without us praying forlaborers to be sent into the harvest. When the gospel iscarried to all the world, then the end will come, (Matt.24:14).

The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us, and causesall things to work together for good to those who lovethe Lord and to those who are called according to Hispurpose, (Romans 8 : 26-32). His purpose is to send thewhole gospel to the whole world. The Holy Spirit intercedes through us. When ourprayer is weak, the prayer offered by the Spirit is ir-resistable. He is saying, "Ask of me of the things to comeconcerning the things of my hands, command you me."How can we make prayer more effective'?

We need to do like the early Christians, have a regu-lar hour of prayer, (Acts 3:1-3). We can do it if wewant to do it. We are the ones to make that decision. Noone else can make the decision for us.

We must seek his will and dedicate ourselves to Hisservice. We need to know His purpose in our life. If Hiswords abide in us our prayers will be answered, (John15 :7). We must be guided by His Holy Word. It is ourwaybill and guide. Whatever we ask of Him we receive itif we keep His commandments and do those things whichare pleasing in His sight, (IJohn ! 5 :14). His command-ment is for us to carry the gospel into all the world,(Matt. 28:19-20). Nothing will please [Jim more thanthis.

Instead of LlS praying for the salvation of our relatives,we must pray for the salvation of nations. We must mix our prayers with worship and praise.

Praise drove four nations back inlo defeat, (11 Chron.20 :21). They that worship Him must worship Him inspirit and in truth, (John c J :23). Thus we must be con-nected with Him for the message to v;o through. Wemust practice the presence of God.

When the Spirit prays through us, we are edified, (ICor. 14 :4). Our most holy faith is built up as we prayin the Holy Ghost. (Jude 20).Must one lay hands on people as he prays for them?

    25

    15/18

Laying hands on people is part of the doctrine ofChrist, (Hebrews 6:1-4). Each believer is expected tolay hands on the sick, (Mark 16:17). Paul laid hands onthe sick as they were healed, (Acts 28 :1). Ananias laidhands on Paul. He was healed of blindness and receivedthe Holy Ghost, (Acts 9). By the hands of the apostlesmany signs and wonders were wrought, (Acts 13: 3).A gift was given unto Timothy as hands were laid onhim. We must lay hands on people as God directs. If wedo it as we are led by the Spirit, then Jesus lays Hishands on them as we do. He will work with us confirm-ing the Word with signs following, (Mark 16: 16-18).

Laying on of hands must never become a mere ritualas it has in many churches. We must turn away fromthe group that has a mere form denying the powerthereof, (II Tim. 3).Since our body is the temple of God, and God dwellsin that temple, we have power in our hands as well asour whole body. Jesus dwells in our hands.

Jesus laid hands on little children and blessed them.We should be able to do the same thing, (ICor. 6 :19).

Will one ever get to the place where he won't need topray? If he does, he is better than Jesus. Jesus found itnecessary to spend much time in prayer as long as He

was here on the earth. So did Paul, Peter. and all theapostles. After Jesus lind th e aJlo~tle~ spent hours, and evennights ill prayer, t hov SHW j.n'cat miracles take place intheir ministry. When Jesus l'anlr out of the water He was praying,Baptism means lhut WI' havc died out to self life andhave risen with Christ, to take up the God life. But.He never sinned . .I1'slls wns also praying as He receivedthe Baptism of the l lolv (:host.May we learn a lesson from the prayer life of Jesus?

lIe is the perfect example. lIe had a perfect prayerlife. He prayed a perfect praver. Itwas not . i ust because

Jesus spent forty days in communion with God beforeHe was ushered into His ministry. We must have a timeof waiting on God before we can minister as Jesus min-istered. We are to take up the work that He left off.

Is it necessary for a man to pray a lot if he has thegifts of the Spirit? This some people do not understand. Je 'us is our ex-

ample. He had all the gifts working in His ministry. Hereturned in the power of the Spirit. because He was incommunion with His Father. He prayed for 10 days andnights, (Luke 11:14) ,

He cast out many devils and He healed Peter's wife'smother. IIe did many wonders, until the people gatheredin large numbers. Thev were brought to be healed, (Mark1 :30). Then he departed into a secret plate of prayer inspite of the fact that all men were seeking for Him,

Jes us gave IImself to long periods of ill tercessionbefore His Father. (Luke 5:16). "And He withdrewHimself into the wilderness and prayed," When Hisenemies sought to kill Him. He went into a mountain andspent the whole night in prayer, (Luke 6: 11-1:2).

A storm hit at the very time people were enjoying themiracles and making Jesus popular, (John 6 :18). There1S always another valley beyond the next mountain peak. The devil is at the foot of that mountain, waiting foryou, (Mark 9: 14). That is why you must withdrawyourself in secret prayer. You must pray in secret if youwant to be rewarded openly.

Jesus prayed ami prepared for the coming storm,(Matt. 14 :23). He was able to walk the waves and cometo the rescue of His disciples in the middle of the night,(John 6 :18; Matt. 14 :23). He supernaturally carriedthe disciples and the boat to safety. All because Heprayed before the storm came.

Do great soul winners pray?Jesus was the greatest soul-winner. He prayed. If it

was necessary for Him to pray. it is much more needfulthat we spend much time in communion with God.

Some men may seek for new members, decisions, orconfessions, but it takes much prayer to get conviction, repentance and conversion.

No man can come to Jesus unless the Father draw him,(John 6 :44). Conversion is a supernatural work. No mancan win souls without the anointing of the Spirit.

Just before Peter received a revelation and confessedthat Jesus was the Son of God, Jesus was in earnestprayer, (Matt. 16:16). Soul winning' is not done by man'swisdom.

Prayer will not only help win souls, but it will helpus to stay in the grace of God. Jesus prayed earnestlyfor l lis disciples that they would be kept from evil,(John 17:1G). When Jesus perceived that Peter wasgoing to fall, Ie prayed for Him. This furnished thepower that brought Peter through the darkest night.(Luke 22:~ 1-02).

Must a prayer warrior live alone much of the time? You can't Iisten to people talk all day and tell the

church that Ilig-hl what God said. The more power youhave with God, the more you must draw yourself frompeople. We absorb whatever we come in contact with.Moses staved alone with Goo until his face shone.

Jesus warnedthe people of the coming judgment, yet lie gave thanksto God because a group believed Him and turned torighteousness , (Matt. 11 :20-25) .

Jesus gave thanks before He ate, 01' allowed others toeat, (Matt, 15:36). He believed that Lazarus would risefrom the dead so lIe gave thanks before the corpseactually came out of the tomb, (John 11 :4:2,-43). We arecreated to worship our Maker, (John 1::2~-24). Whenthe people worshipped God in a loud praise, Jesus de-fended their action, (Luke 19 :37).

Must we pray when all is going well'?Too many people wait until they are in trouble to pray.

If we would pray when all is well. we would not haveso much trouble to pray about.

People couldn't look on his countenance. God said toElijah, "Go hide thyself." Later He said, "Go show your-self." (IKings 17:3; 18:1-2).

After Jesus was made known, after He had beentranslated, He withdrew Himself to solitary places. Hesometimes took along two or three of His choice disciples.

As Jesus was praying His countenance was altered. Hecould even intercede in prayer while the disciples gaveway under the pressure of the powers of darkness andfell asleep. As the powers of evil press harder and harderupon us, it is necessary that we go hide ourselves untilour countenance is altered. While others are sleeping wecan be as the wise virgins. Our vessels will be full, wait-ing for the cry, "Behold the bridegroom cometh."

Jesus prayed the perfect prayer. He was the only oneat that time who had the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost isthe Pray-er. We don't know what to pray for, but theHoly Spirit prays through us, waiting for the redemptionof our body, (Romans 8 :23-32). We can pray amiss, thatwe might consume it upon our own lusts. But when Heprays, He prays according to the will of God. He praysthe perfect prayer through us.

What must we do when it is ha-rd to pray? When it is hard to pray, we must pray hard. That is

when we win our greatest victory. When the powers ofdarkness closed in on Jesus he prayed almost continuous-ly. That is when He interceded for His disciples. Must we pray "If it be Thy will?"Yes, in some things. Jesus had plenty of faith, but He

did not seem to know exactly for awhile what God's willwas for Him; so He prayed in the Garden for God's willto be done. We should do the same.

There are times that we have the faith, but we arenot certain what the will of God is for our lives. Thatis the time we must hold on in prayer until we knowwhat He wants us to do. That is the time we can makemistakes that may be regretted for years to come.

When we pray for His will to be done, we are prayingfor salvation and we are praying for healing, becausesalvation and healing is IIis will.

When we pray for God's wiJI to be done, we are pray-ing in the mind of the Spirit. We are perfectly yieldedto God. We are then praying a perfect prayer and nota selfish one. We should pray until His will is revealedto us. Then we will not regret a wrong decision.

Must we pray for our enemies?Jesus taught this and practiced it. While He was suf-fering from the lash. nails and thorns, He asked God toforgive His enemies. He found an excuse for them inLuke 23 :34. Itwas 25 years after a man did me wronzbefore I could pray for God to bless him. Jesus prayedfor His enemies while He was suffering, during the timethey were whipping Him.

TIc dicl t h is because He had prayed beforehand. Theythought they were doing God's service as they crucifiedHim. There will come a time that saints will be killedby men who think they are doing God's service, (John16 :2).

We need to pray always that we may be countedworthv to t'SC

When it seemed that the prayers of Jesus had goneunanswered; when it seemed that even God had notheard His prayer, and in the face of apparent failure,Jesus yet prayed, "Into thy hands I commend my spirit."

That is a lesson for us. When it seems that we are notheard by either God or man; when we seem forsaken, wemust yet pray like this: "Even if I go down fighting, Istill have my faith in God. I will yet believe that He ismerciful and in His goodness."We must do as the Hebrew children, who prayed, "Hewill deliver us out of thine hand, oh king, but if not, beit known to thee, oh king, we will not serve thy god."

Will God forsake us?Jesus prayed one prayer that we need never pray. As

God turned His face from His Son, it was for us. Jesustook our place. God will never turn His face from us ifwe put our trust in the One who took our place. He willwelcome us into our eternal home. To those who will nottrust in the One who took our place, He will turn Hisface away from you forever. Now is the time to beginyour prayer life. Itwill be too late then. Don't wait untilyou call on Him and He will not answer you. Now is theaccepted time. Pray now. He hears you now. He will notforsake you if you call upon Him.
