We are currently seeking physicians and nurses for the summer of 2008. Do you know of anyone who might like to be a camp doctor or nurse? Nurses are needed for a mini-mum stay of three weeks while doctors need to be available for a minimum of one week. Families can be accommodated. Please call the office if you know anyone that might be inter-ested.

Fondly, Ron & Barbara

IN THIS ISSUE:

Do you know someone that might make a great staff member at French Woods? We always welcome your recom-mendations. Especially needed are strong sports and tennis staff, musical directors, instrumental musicians, skilled artists, technical theatre staff and nurses. Please call us in the winter office at 1(800)634-1703 if you know of anyone and we will be happy to forward them the appropriate application forms and information. With many of your favorite staff returning we are hoping to make the staff of 2009 the best ever.

In response to the many phone calls we have received please mark these dates: June 28th and 29th, July 18th and 19th, August 7th and 8th, and August 28th & 29th. Visiting on the first of each two day period begins immediately after lunch, about 2 PM. The second day of visiting begins at 11 AM. Visitors will NOT be allowed on the grounds before these times. Parents may NOT bring picnic dinners or any other food to share with their children at camp. Parents and visitors are welcome to eat in our dining hall but under no circumstances are campers permitted to leave the grounds. Should you wish to attend any other performance during the summer please call the camp so that we know you are coming. You may arrive at 6 PM for dinner in the dining hall. Picnics and other food items are NOT permitted during these visits. If you are in need of accommodations please call the winter office and we will be happy to provide you with names and phone numbers to contact.

The return rate of staff is incredible this year. We have already heard from many of our returning staff and are receiving new applications every day! As many of you know, we say goodbye to the old hockey ring and in its place find a new expanded fitness center complete with two studios for aerobics and martial arts. Skateboarders already know of the new park and the expansion of the Arts and Crafts Center is also part of the plan for 2009. Registration is just unreal. Please note the follow-ing: we are now almost 60% filled. In the next Performer we will be forced to announce the closing of many sessions by age. Give us a call or return your registration before you

are closed out. We would love to have you join us in 2009. For those of you who will be at camp in session three, remem-ber to register for Billy Elliot on Broadway! It’s a fantastic show that I’m sure you will all enjoy immensely!

As of November 1, 2008 there are only 222 days left until session 1 2008 rolls around, and 242 days for session 2. I bet you can’t wait. Joey Champey is now officially on the Douglas High School Basketball Team. So while Joey begins his High School Varsity season, I begin my 4th year at the Coral Springs Charter School coaching their boys JV and assisting with the Varsity. Ryan Deri and Ari Bellan are playing varsity basketball at the Charter School this season. I got to see the boys, Joey, Alex Bellino, Michael Minichiello (Richard and Jenna too), Chris Harchuck, Ryan Deri, Ari Bellan, and Arnau Robles. Brittany’s October included Haunted Halloween at her high school, Alexa Lebersfeld’s sweet sixteen, work in the drama depart-ment at school, and is culminating with a trip to NY for Jolene Spivak’s Sweet Sixteen November 7th, where she will surely see many of her camp friends. We hope that Jolene is doing great and we’ll see her at camp again soon. Brittany will also be attending the fund-raiser to assist children with autism set up by Remy Geller and Natalie Coppa in NYC. Brittany and Kathy got to catch Michael Kushner’s school performance in Elegies. Brittany now starts to prepare for her thespian competition in December. I spent some time with my 81 year old mother this Yom Kippur (L’Shonnah Tova) is Sea Gate. I also saw my grandchildren: Teddy (6), Lilly (4), and Danny (2) that weekend along with my Son Josh, his lovely wife, Lynn, and my daughter Jennifer. I am very proud to report that Jennifer has been named Assistant Principal of Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, which, by the way, is my Alma Mater. Jennifer is one of the youngest AP’s in NYC. Josh has hooked up with the New Jersey Devils hockey team and is now working as a doctor for one of their farm team affiliates in Massachusetts where he lives and works. Josh is a partner in orthopedic surgery at the Lahey Clinic. Erin is doing great at UCF and has been seeing so many of her camp friends as they travel the US. She’ll be with us for Thanks-giving very soon and traveling to Maryland to spend time with Laura Thomas during Christmas break. Erin voted for the first time in her life. Erin also had Kathy send her glove and cleats so that she can begin playing softball in college again. She played third base at Douglas HS. I spoke to Carolyn, she’s doing great in Brussels; her baby is due in February. Kathy and I will be in the Boston area, Philly, Spain, and Paris again this year. We hope to see some of our campers and their

families who live in those areas this winter. We will let you know the exact dates soon. Gregg is overseeing the construction of our brand new fitness center. It will include two studios for aerobics, yoga, and martial arts, pilates, cheer leading, and other forms of dance. The center will house 4 treadmills, 2 upright bikes, 2 recumbent bikes, 4 elliptical trainers, 2 adaptive motion trainers, 1 stair-master, 12 Selectorized machines (call Gregg to find out what that’s all about), 6 multi-stack modular (call Gregg for that too), full range of free weights, and a variety of other state of the art machines. (Call Gregg for any details). Stay in touch. Bye for now,

Isaac

B e t h B a c k s t a g e As you can see we have put together a tentative show schedule for the summer of 2009. We are planning some fantastic favorites and, as always, we will have several making their French Woods debut this summer. We have been in contact with many of you and have taken several of your suggestions into account. I think that the show selection is particularly good this year. It’s looking great in 2009! We have started sending out returning counselor invitations for the 2009 season and it looks as though we will have quite the fabulous staff. There will be many returning staff members and we have started the drive to recruit new staff from all over the country and, as always, all over the world. Things are busy in the French Woods office these days! I hope school is going well & I look forward to seeing you all next summer! Sincerely,

Beth T H A T ’ S T H E N E W S A N D W E A R E O U T T A H E R E !

Corey Lorence landed the part of Flick (Ralphie’s best friend) in the A Christmas Story production that will be showcasing at the Village Theater in Lexington, SC showing December 5-14. Over sixty people auditioned and this is a real honor for Corey. Flick gets his tongue stuck to a pole and other surprises and the show looks to get plenty of laughs. In addition to this incredible honor, Corey just did a voice over as a kid in the park for a SC Independent film called Dog Days in hopes of the film going National. Zoe Simon was cast in the Beachwood Community Production of the Wizard of Oz. Most kids her age got one part. They wanted Zoe for two: a Munchkin, and she is part of the Dance Troupe as well. matthew Wechsler was playing the part of the Newsboy in The Time Of Your Life at the Storm Theater through November first. Wendy eisenberg has been named Stu-dent Director of her school Jazz Band and Section leader for guitar with Blues Alley Youth Orchestra in Washington, DC. Sarah Shane’s school drama club is pro-ducing Beauty and the Beast. Sarah is playing the role of Cogsworth, the clock! Sarah Hoyt just finished manning (wom-anning) the lights with the Canterbury Theatre En-semble production of Mame at Storm King School. audrey Lorence just received the Televi-sion Spokesperson job for Carolina Crysler Jeep Dodge in South Carolina and commercials will start airing in mid October. Strike up the band…Sean Feldman is keep-ing busy with extracurricular activities as a high school freshman. He bowls on the Wagner Falcons Boys Varsity Bowling Team and has a 171 average. He also plays snare drum and cymbals in the Susan Wagner High School Marching Band and is looking forward to playing in Disney World in February in the Disney Electric Parade. Sean gives a shout out to his bunkmates from B-6A who he misses a lot. Jaden Jules performed on stage with Tift Merritt, the country singer, at the 24th anniversary Medal of Arts Ceremony on Tuesday Oct 7th... He will also be singing at the Nutcracker Chorus with the Triangle Youth Ballet Music and the Symphony during the Holidays. Harrison Kaufman has just been cast as Xanthius in his school’s production of The Frogs. Hayden Gutt is in the children’s ensemble

of Yorktown Stage’s November production of Oklahoma. He is very excited to be working with some professional actors and singing the wonder-ful songs in Oklahoma. Hayden had an amazing time for his first summer at French Woods. He even convinced his little sister eva to sign up for next summer! alex Oates and his band, Wishful Think-ing help raise money each year to benefit The Simple Gifts Farm in North Amherst, Massachu-setts. The first year they raised enough money to prevent developers from taking over the land and commercializing it. This year marked the 3rd anniversary of the benefit for the farm. Wish-ful Thinking was asked to play at the benefit and definitely caught some attention from young to old. They sold 14 CD’s and raised $70 for the farm. They all had a great time sharing their mu-sic which is all original! Rachel Rodgers auditioned for the West-ern Connecticut Youth Orchestra and is now the first Flutist. She will be traveling with the group to Los Angeles to perform with the Pacific Sym-phony Orchestra over spring break. In addition, she has recorded a CD which she is selling lo-cally to raise money for the upcoming trip! Chloe Joseph, Rebecca Simon and al-exa Just were cast in Peter Pan with the local Stagcratter group. Sydney Gough was cast as Sally in the fall production of You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown to be performed by the Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts (YADA) in Los Angeles. Sydney is in YADA’s Junior Master class. Stef millman loved working at camp this summer! She is now choreographing a production of The Who’s Tommy at her school, the Univer-sity of Delaware. The show will be the weekends of Nov 14 & 21. She misses all her campers from G3B and hopes to see them all again next sum-mer! Samantha Rose algaze has been cast as Rapunzel in her school’s production of Into the Woods. Gavin Becker is currently playing Alex in The Velveteen Rabbit at a local theater. Carly Beard is currently performing as Bell Starr in Dastardly Deeds at the Yoursin Mine or You Can’t Take it With You at school and Any-thing Goes with a local community group!

C a m p e r & S t a f f N e w s The show opens November 13th, but Elton John is already hyping Billy Elliot on television and in interviews. Due to the anticipated sellout status of the show, we would like to announce this year’s Broadway trip early. The French Woods Broadway trip this year will be to see Billy Elliot! We will be sending out registration forms for the trip soon. You can also download them from our website at www.frenchwoods.com
