One o the rst steps when youve madethe decision to purchase a home is toset an appointment or a Home BuyingCounseling Session with an experiencedreal estate proessional. Tis person will beable to help you explore what your optionsare. Tis is an important step even i yourenot buying a home or the very rst time,as the market and the process are alwayschanging.

At the appointment, you will get anoverview o the entire process o buying

a home rom start to nish, whichincludes how to get pre-approved or amortgage, possible nancing options thatare available, determining what is mostimportant to you in a home, locatingproperties to meet your criteria, and whatto expect throughout the negotiation oyour ofer and the purchase o the home.

Anyone can certainly nd a house to buy,but the value o a real estate proessional isin their ability to strongly represent you, educate you on market values to ensure

youre making a purchase that the marketsupports, and to negotiate on your behal. One o the most important steps is ingetting pre-approved or a mortgage. You should take this step beore you startlooking at homes because in not doing

so you can waste a lot o time looking athomes that you dont qualiy to purchaseand potentially miss opportunities.

Buying a home is a rewarding andenjoyable process i you know what toexpect along the way, and a real estateproessional can represent your bestinterests, negotiate on your behal, andguide you through the entire process.

On July 4, 1976, I attended a Bicen-tennial party at Staord Park in MapleHeights. My ather was involved in a

pizza eating contest with Mariano Mush-mouth Pacetti. (For those o you whowatched Houlihan and Big Chuck, thisshould bring back a memory or two.)

Mushmouth was shoveling pizza downhis gullet as quickly as he could, whilemy ather was savoring every bite. I canstill remember the absolute horror I eltas an older boy pointed to my dad andsaid, Hey, that guy looks like hes eatinghis lunch. Although embarrassing at thetime, it remains one o my avorite memo-

ries o my childhood. Can you believe that July 4th has al-

ready come and gone this year? Aerall, we waited so long or summer to gethere. We roze through winter; we wadedthrough spring, and its now primetime to

enjoy some sun and summer un.Instead, we fnd we are too busy to take

the time to truly enjoy creating moments. We work, take care o the lawn, get the

housework done, and drive the kids to androm all o their sports activities. Ten, a-ter a quick bite to eat, we crawl into bed atthe end o the day, exhausted - only to doit again the next day.

In all o our doing this summer, itsimportant to remember to take time to just be and appreciate the moments oour lives.

Here are some tips to get the most outo your summer activities:

urn working in the yard into play-

ing in the yard. Make a conscious eortto appreciate the warmth o the sun, thesmell o resh cut grass, and the beautyo nature that surrounds you. Wateringthe lawn? Why not get a little silly andjump through the sprinkler like you used

cians and business people in history havehad the mindset o positive thinking.

I you were to observe a successulperson you would see that they act asthough they have already accomplishedtheir goals and soon it becomes theirreality. Although successul people arenot exempt rom fnding themselves insituations with risk and uncertainty, theyare always looking on the positive s ide othings and because o this mindset theyembrace the potential risk and keep apositive outlook which is why 90% o the

time they succeed.Keeping a positive attitude is extreme-

ly important because it encourages indi-viduals to approach each day with opti-mism which then results in eeling goodabout lie regardless o the situation. Ina team environment, a positive attitude

encourages the team to work togetherwith individual styles and personalities.Positive attitude is not only about choos-ing to have a good outlook through good

When a person makes the consciousdecision to see the glass hal ull theyare actually acilitating an environmentthat will produce the things that are de-sired in their lie much more than thingsthat are not. In an article published byTe New York imes it was stated thatresearch showed that optimism can paydividends as wide-ranging as health, lon-

gevity, job success and higher scores onachievement tests.

Staying positive takes a concerted e-ort and one must guard themselvesrom the little things that tend to drainthe good eeling energy that comes withpositive thinking. aking caution not to

to do as a kid? It may bring back someond memories and your kids will thinkthat youre cool too. (Or at least theylllook back and smile about it 30 years rom

urn summer sports into an opportu-nity or a amily picnic. Bring a blanket,an old-ashioned picnic basket, and enjoysome quality time together aer the game.Tis is also a good time to let your child

know how proud you are o them or whothey are and how they contributed to theirteam. Positive moments like these cancreate lasting memories or your children.

However, in a 2005 health survey, 30percent o adults nationwide reported get-ting only about six hours o sleep per day.For many adults, atigue seems inevitable. In a 2002 study conducted by the Nation-al Sleep Foundation, 37 percent o adultsreported being so sleepy during the daythat it interered with their daily activities.Much o that lost sleep can be attributedto background noises.

Background noise is a problem orpeople when they are sleeping, said Dr.

A study by Consumer Reports oundthat sound machines are nearly as efec-

Many o us have been led to believe

that at a certain advanced age we mustslow down and stop taking risks. OurAmerican society tends to think o peopleover 65 as a non-entity. Unortunately, many have chosen to believe it. As I travelthe country perorming my comedy showand conducting lie-balance workshopshowever, Im meeting thousands oaging Americans who are ignoring thesenegative expectations and turning towardadventurous and meaningul lives.

Everything we become in our lives is a

direct result o the choices we make ona day-to-day basis. In short, i you wantto keep on getting what youve beengetting, just keep on doing what youvebeen doing. You cant change the world. You cant change your relatives. You cantchange anything but yoursel and yourown attitudes.

I had a riend named Lorine who madeher transition at the age o 93. She livedher last 13 years with an advanced case o

macular degeneration, the result o whichwas 80% blindness in both eyes. At 4 f,11 inches, this now sight-impaired, yet vibrant woman had driven motorcycles, scuba dived, and traveled the world. At 83,she was the oldest woman to white-waterraf in Maine. At 90, she participated ullyin an intense personal growth workshopweekend. Lorine was always growingher attitude always upbeat, her smilecontagious, and her personality warm andloving.

Te summer o her 87th birthday, I wastelling her o my recent skydive. I alwayswanted to make a jump...thats the onething I never got to do, she wistullyreplied. Is it something you stillwant to? I asked. Sure! she beamedenthusiastically.I called the jumpschool, explained her

unique situation, asking i this would evenbe possible. She could do a tandem withan instructor, IF she got an approval noterom her doctor, hang suspended rom aharness or three minutes, and touch hertoesthen she could do a tandem jumpwith a jumpmaster, he replied (guringthat would be the end o that!)

Within seconds, she was on the phoneto her amily doctor demanding animmediate ax o approval. Within 30minutes, we were on the way to the jumpsite. Her excitement was contagious. Her decades o daily stretching exercisespaid o as she proved to all o us she was

exible enough to pass all required tests.Te jumpmaster asked her i this wassomething she really wanted to do, or isomeone was making her do it (somewild scheme to collect her inheritanceperhaps?) He reminded her that onceshe got up there, she might get scared and

have a heart attack. She beamed at himwith her bright white, dentured smile andsaid, Honey, Im 87 and hal blind. I I

die rom a heart attack, jumping rom anairplane, Ill be on the 11oclock news!Hyped, Helmeted and suited up,

ready to step into the plane, the weathershifed suddenly scrapping the ight dueto saety regulations. (I suspect perhapsthey exaggerated the poor conditions tourther dissuade her rom attempting sucha crazy idea.) Youll have to come backtomorrow, they told us. In all honesty, Ialso thought she would change her mind, but when we woke in the morning, she

was dressed and waiting or us downstairs exuding the excitement like a 4 year oldon Christmas morning.

Well, Lorine made the jump witheveryone on the premises cheering her on.She didnt know it, but she was inspiringthe rest o us on the art o aging. I wantto be like her when I grow up, a man o65 exclaimed as he watched her land andwhoop out her excited yell. Lorine wasawarded a video o her experience and acerticate as the oldest person to jump atthat acility. She bubbled like a schoolgirl, thanking us all or giving her the bestexperience o her lie.

Now, Im certainly not suggestingeveryone run right out and jump romairplanes...but all o us have somethingweve always longed to accomplish,or someplace weve always dreamedo visiting, or something weve alwayswanted to learn. What is yours? It doesnthave to be huge. Maybe its piano, guitar

or dance lessons, or taking an art orwriting class. Maybe its sailing on a cruiseor seeing Paris. What will you regret NOdoing when your nal moment arrives?Let go o the guilt. Face your ears and doit anyway. You deserve to put yoursel onyour own list o priorities. Go or it!

Clutter is something that most o usbelieve is simply a part o lie. However,as humans were located at dierent pointson the clutter spectrum. Someone who isa minimalist would be considered a one, while someone seen on the Hoarders

reality V show is a ten. Everyone elsealls somewhere in between.

Tere are several things we can do totame the clutter in our lives. First andoremost, it is important to be thankulor all that we have. We can then learnto be a discerning shopper and becomemore generous by giving to others whatwe no longer need. Its also important toassign a permanent home or items thatwill be used on a regular basis.

Since the kitchen is one o the main ocalpoints o a home, and the location thatmost people gather, keeping it unclutteredcan be a challenge. One o the best waysto organize the kitchen is by keeping allsmall appliances, gadgets and tools in the

cupboard. Tis will allow your counters tobe open and easy or ast clean-ups.

For those with children, keepingbedrooms and playrooms as simple aspossible is always the best way to go.Using labels and bin organizers will helpkeep everything in place and contributesto routine which is valuable or children.

I you fnd that you have items that youdont use and still have value, considerrecycling them through donation whichis not only good or the environment, itsgood or physical and mental health whilehelping those who are less ortunate.

this year -- and with good reason; it is asexy, organic, beachy hair color that is anextremely attering way to go lighter. Forthose ashionistas who preer a lighterbeauty budget or loathe the thought ohigh maintenance hair color (constantroot touch ups are unnecessary); yet want

a high ashion, attering hot new look, then Ombr hair is perect or you!

While seductively artul, the appeal isin its intentional imperection. Ombrliterally means gradation in French, which reers to the dark-to-light ade ocolor that is used in the technique. In theashion world, ombr usually reers toa abric dyeing process that produces apale-to-dark gradation o color. For ourpurposes, the order is reversed, but the

idea is the same neverthelesshence thename. Instead o color that starts at theroot, darker roots blend into a lightenedmid-shaf and end.

Additionally abulous things aboutthis hair color technique are that it workswith any texture or tone. Ombr is ananti-aging hair color trick that actuallymimics the hair color o our childhoods.

It also can easily be personalized upto be more trendy or down to a subtlergorgeousness; the choice o a stronger or

It may always be an unansweredquestion as to why some people rise to

the top while others have dreams thatquickly wilt on the vine. Its an intriguingquestion to ask onesel what is thatintangible that sets one person apart romanother when both have traveled the sameroad to success. What is that unknownx-actor or unexplained bit o serendipitythat catapult some to heights o greatnesswhile others are le in the dust heap ohistory?

We all know about Abraham Lincoln

but not many o us have heard about thenoted statesman and Harvard PresidentEdward Everett. As the main speaker onthat November day in 1863, Everett tookto the stage and spoke or two hours.Lincoln, who had only been invited tospeak two weeks beore the event, andwho had hurriedly written what he hadplanned to say, was the next speaker.Lincoln then went on to utter his amous270-word speech that we have come toknow as Te Gettysburg Address.

Clearly Lincoln stood out while Everettdisappeared into the pages o history. It could have been preparation, desire,

commitment, hard work, luck or acombination o all o these that made thedierence. Although we may never be

able to explain that intangible quality, theact is that Lincoln had prepared himselor that moment. He may or may not haveknown how opportunity would come tohim but what it tells us is that opportunityis waiting, in many orms, to reward thosewho are prepared to embrace it.

Success can only come about whenyour decision is ollowed by action. I youare planning changes in your personalor proessional lie then remember that

dreams without action are ruitless ventures. Do your research. alk toexperts in your feld; get the propereducation or training. However, dont waituntil everything is perect. Allow room ortrial and error, growth and development.Decide, do your research and then act.

Be sure to draw up a blueprint or yourplan o action. It should include how youwant your lie to look and your goals bothpersonally and proessionally. Begin todream specifcally o how you want your
