Our biggest event of the year is here, the WA State Historic Championships, running again over the Queen's Birthday weekend with Saturday as an open practice day.
With record memberships, record competitors and the large amount of events and tuning days. I've had a tally up of volunteer numbers; the Saturday ride days, approximately twenty people and race days about thirty.
Our great volunteers, some are on duty all weekend and others make it for one day. Needless to say it's a juggling act for Maureen to get them sorted, then handed over to Lee Crosby to do the greatly appreciated job of keeping the riders safe and the track clean- ups done in record time. The last meeting was a dry day and consequently not one red flag....Well done everyone!
The Nationals Committee is organising preliminary requirements for 2019. At a recent meeting with Anna Farrell at Collie, discussions included parking, extra pits and power. Paul Barfoot, Dave Gapes, Steve Crane, Maureen and myself were in attendance, while Keith Jiggins was present as a guest.
It's a sign of the times that the last Speedway Club I rode for in England, Arena Essex, has closed due to housing redevelopment.
Riding through the pits at walking pace worked well at the last round at Collie. We will continue the practice, but it's up to the riders to look after this change. ________________________________________________________________________SCRUTINEERING NEWS - Suellyn Luckett
Over the last couple of months some of the scrutineering team have been doing a few extra hard yards to gain or further their accreditation.
Congratulations to:
Rob Fry and Tony Hynes, who have completed the MWA Scrutineering course and are Level 1 Scrutineers.
Steve Corsini is now a Level 2 Scrutineer.
Jodie Brown is now a Level 3 Scrutineer.
The entire team is looking forward to the State Titles this weekend, which we will be using as a practice run for the Nationals next year. ________________________________________________________________________..... AND, SPEAKING OF HISTORIC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
This year's Historic National Championships are less than two months away.
Venue is the State Motorcycle Sport Complex at Broadford, Victoria from 9-11 November 2018, promoted by the Preston Motorcycle Club.
The Nationals are open to Period 1-6 Solo machines and Period 3-5 Sidecars.

THE 2018 SOUTHERN CLASSIC - 3-4 NOVEMBER 2018
This event takes place on the weekend before the Nationals and is also held at Broadford, which, by the way, is a seriously good track for Historic bikes.
Hosted by the Historic Motorcycle Racing Association of Victoria (HMRAV), the event is open to Period 1-5 machines and would be a good warm-up to the Nationals.
