Gospel: luke 2: 22-40 The Feast of the Presentation is not given a lot of attention. Perhaps it is because it is a tradition which is unfamiliar to us. The remarkable young couple, Mary and Joseph, had gone through so much as new parents. There was, of course, no room in the inn to make the birth of their baby more comfortable. Then there was the warning Joseph got that they needed to take their newborn to Egypt to escape Herod’s henchmen and certain death for their son. With all of that they go to the Temple to present their son. This should have been a celebration, and yet, Mary receives a warning that she will suffer. 1.) Share your recollections of the events that Mary and Joseph experi-enced. What would you have felt during those events? What do you think Mary and Joseph felt as Simeon proclaimed their son as God’s salvation? What do you imagine they felt when Anna said Mary would know sorrow? Pray a decade of the rosary and meditate on the Presentation.

Reflections ~ Reflexiones Pastor’s Message: Special Announcement from the Archdiocese At the present time, no extraordinary changes are anticipated in procedures at the Mass for the time being. Individual pastors may, however, use their own discretion in implementing precautionary procedures, such as suspending the shaking of hands at the Sign of Peace, the holding of hands at the Our Father, and distribution of Holy Communion under the species of wine. It is always a good idea for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to cleanse their hands with hand sanitizer before distributing Communion. In addition to these considerations, prudence dictates that every-one takes personal precautionary measures during the cold and flu season. Pleas e be sure to avoid close contact with people/parishioners

who are sick. If you yourself are feeling ill, please try to stay home from work

and school if at all possible, and reduce your exposure while in public places. Always cover your mouth and nose when cough-ing or sneezing by using a clean tissue or coughing/sneezing into your arm. Avoid covering your nose and mouth with your bare hand.

Always practice frequent washing of the hands. By doing so you can help protect yourself from germs. Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with virus type bacteria.

Practice good health habits in general, such as getting plenty of sleep, remaining physically active, managing your stress, and replenishing your body with water or other sugarless fluids.

We will continue to monitor the current situation and determine if any adjustments will need to be made should the situation worsen but still fall short of a pandemic, and are prepared should the civil health authorities raise the flu season to the level to a pandemic. Rev. Eugene Tungol Pastor

Eugene Tungol Pastor
