They Changed the World

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”“Reading is one of the means of emancipation for the working classes. That is why we recommend that they read widely.”

“Permit me to confide to you one last desire: that you strive to create a climate of true love and respect for the poor because the poor man is Christ” “Don't cry when the sun is gone, because the tears won't let you see the stars.”

What About Us? Our parents probably didn’t finish school but

became professionals while on the job; They kept their positions for 10, 20, 30, 40 years or

more; They made sure WE went to school (why us?); Mom & dad met through close friends or family; While dating, they would listen to a “vitrola” or the

radio; They probably never traveled to other cities or

countries; They also changed their world: THROUGH US.

Integrating Technology in our lessons Does my activity have a purpose? Does it foster life skills? Does it serve a mission my students may encounter in life? Do my activities improve their understading of a global

world? Do the tasks suggested enhance my students’ critical

thinking? Do the tasks designed reinforce a sense of community? Do my activities go beyond the classroom (do they get

parents, classmates, friends, family members, etc involved when / as appropriate?)

Do my tasks serve my curriculum? Can they be assessed in terms of observable competencies? Can I give “just-in-time” or later feedback to my students so

they can do better next time?
