Despite the lure of the beach, we’ve been working hard to bring you the latest news and information once again this month. As anticipated the authorities and businesses have reported that visitor numbers are down this summer, although the demise of Britain’s ‘barbecue summer’ has meant a fl urry of last minute bookings. The good news though is that the latest fi gures show an improvement in the European economy and, whilst there is a long way to go to full recovery, we all know what a little optimism can do to drive things forward.The latest news concerning the political situation in Manilva is that it would appear that an agreement has been reached which should see a restoration of order after the chaos caused by the resignation in June of two ASM councillors. As predicted provincial politics have dictated the solution. I suspect that this will not be the fi nal chapter in this saga.Well it’s the height of the summer, and once again the Basque separatist terror group ETA are trying to scare away the tourists with a number of devices planted on the holiday island of Majorca.Unlike the two bombs earlier in the month which caused such damage in Burgos and killed two Guardia Civil offi cers, these latest came with warnings, making it quite clear they have no intention of killing tourists, merely scare them away, and whilst the threat to those unconnected to the security forces is negligible, it certainly pays to be vigilant.This vigilance should also be applied to your property and personal belongings, because as usual the summer brings its fair share of low-lifes, who come to prey on visitors and residents who during the holiday season tend to be relaxed and off guard making them an easy target, particularly for distraction burglaries.On the subject of things that go bump in the night, horror fi lm fans (or should that be fangs?) will be looking forward to this year’s Estepona International Festival of Horror and Fantasy Cinema which will be held during the second week of September. This is a real treat with nightly screenings often attended by some of the actors, directors and production staff from the fi lms in the competition, and all the showings free of charge. Una vez más, este mes a pesar de la tentación de la playa, hemos estado trabajando duro para traerle las últimas noticias e información. Como anticipamos, las Autoridades y las empresas han informado que ha disminuido el número de visitantes este verano, aunque la desaparición en Gran Bretaña del verano con sus típicas barbacoas ha signifi cado una serie de reservas de viaje de última hora. La buena noticia es que aunque las cifras más recientes muestran una mejora en la economía europea y, al mismo tiempo hay un largo camino por recorrer para la recuperación total, todos sabemos lo que un poco de optimismo puede hacer para impulsar las cosas hacia adelante. Las últimas noticias acerca de la situación política en Manilva es que parece que se ha alcanzado un acuerdo que debería haber un restablecimiento del orden después del caos provocado por la dimisión en junio de dos concejales de ASM. Como se predij o la política provincial ha dictado la solución. Sospecho que este no será el último capítulo en esta saga. Bueno, a mitad del verano, y una vez más, el grupo terrorista separatista vasco ETA, están tratando de asustar a los turistas con una serie de dispositivos plantados en la isla de Mallorca. A diferencia de las dos bombas a principios de mes que causaron tal daño en Burgos y mataron a dos ofi ciales de la Guardia Civil en Mallorca, éstos últimos venían con avisos, dejando claro que no tienen intención de matar a los turistas, simplemente asustar. Por tanto debemos estar atentos.Esta vigilancia debería aplicarse también a su propiedad y pertenencias personales, como de costumbre, porque el verano trae su cuota justa de ladronzuelos, que vienen a aprovecharse de los visitantes y residentes que durante la temporada de fi estas tienden a estar relajados, bajando la guardia frente a ellos y haciendo que ello sea un blanco fácil, especialmente para robos con distracción. Sobre el tema de los ruidos durante la noche, los afi cionados a las películas de terror estarán deseando estar en el Festival Internacional de Estepona de Cine Fantástico y de Terror, que se celebrará durante la segunda semana de septiembre. Este es un verdadero placer cada noche con proyecciones a menudo a la que asistirán algunos de los actores, directores y personal de producción de las películas en el concurso, y todo ésto gratuito. The Vecinos y Amigos de Marina de Casares have had a very busy agenda recently with a series of diff erent activities such as the recent darts competition, bingo on Saturday evenings from 7 pm, a trip to Málaga Museum to see the Rodín exhibition, with lunch provided by the Diputación de Málaga.They have also had a Tea Party and a Sing-along in Spanish and English. An in-club Petanque tournament saw the winning team, captained by the President Pepe Guisado, receive a handsome silver trophy and a bo le of Cava (albeit a small one). This was presented at the Dinner and Dance, held on the 8th August, which was held at El Rincón del Goleto restaurant
in Los Hidalgos Hills with music and dancing to Spanish and English music performed by an international artist.The Vecinos y Amigos are hoping to have use of their own club room soon thanks to the Ayuntamiento de Casares,

Chemical tanker overturns in TaraguillaA tanker carrying around 25,000 litres of nitric acid overturned last Tuesday at the A7 access roundabout to Taraguilla in San Roque. Although there was no spillage the emergency services evacuated some 70 local residents, along with a nearby restaurant, as a precaution whilst the vehicle was removed. The driver was unharmed in the incident.

Challenge4Ben Charity Fun Day - GibraltarGibraltar’s Ocean Village will be hosting a charity fun day on Saturday 29th August at which intrepid Jersey-based yachtsman Nick Poole will be welcomed into Ocean Village. He plans to have sailed single-handedly the 1,800 miles from Jersey to Gibraltar in an 1972 18 foot Drascombe Lugger. Nick set out at the end of June on his own personal Challenge4Ben which is an initiative set up in memory of his son Ben Poole, a Royal marine who died tragically whilst on a ‘special forces’ exercise in the Brecon Beacons in July 2008.All proceeds raised by Nick will be donated to Jersey charities and Help for Heroes. Ben Poole was a Royal Marine which is one of the reasons Nick has chosen to sail to Gibraltar because of the strong historical link between the Marines and The Rock.Members of Gibraltar’s Rotary Club are organising an all day event to mark Nick’s arrival into Ocean Village. This fi esta on Tuesday, 25th August, 2009 celebrates San Luis the Patron Saint of Sabinillas.Verbena San LuisThe day kicks off in traditional fashion at 8.00 am with rockets and a parade by the Town Band through the streets of Sabinillas.At 11 am the children’s activities begin in Plaza Vicente Espinel organised by the children’s entertainers group.
In the afternoon there is a Mass in honour of the patron accompanied by the Church Choir. After which the Saint’s statue is taken in procession through the streets of the village accompanied by the town band.Music and dancing in the Plaza Vicente Espinel from 10.00 pm until the early hours of the morning to the groups “Latidos” and “A Compas”.

Cuando Pedro Tirado fue arrestado por ello descubrieron en su casa 770.000 euros en
metálico en bolsas de plástico y otros 20.000 euros en la casa de su cuñado. Ambos, Tirado y Francisco Calle, negaron su acusación pero fueron incapaces de convencer al Juez, Miguel Ángel Torres, de la procedencia del dinero y fueron enviamos a la cárcel sin fi anza. El ex alcalde pasó dos meses en prisión antes de ser puesto en libertad bajo fi anza de 250.000 euros.En el proceso se pide dos años de prisión para Tirado, multa de 3 millones de euros e incapacidad para ostentar cargo público durante siete años.
Trial date set for former mayor of ManilvaThe 6th October is the date set for the start of the trial of Manilva’s former Mayor, Pedro Tirado, who along with his brother-in-law Francisco Calle and Aki Kujala, a Finnish businessman, are accused of bribery and corruption offences.The trial concerns the case of
an area of land known as Cortijo La Parrada in Manilva which had been redesignated from rustic land to building land in 2003. Then in 2004 the volume of construction permitted on the land was almost doubled from 1,300 units to 2,340, benefi tting the purchasers substantially by increasing the value from the 9.7 million euros paid to an estimated 118 million euros. On his arrest police searched Tirado’s home and discovered some 770,000 euros in cash in plastic bags in the Mayor’s home and another 20,000 euros in the house of his brother-in-law. Both Tirado and Francisco C, denied the accusations but were unable to convince the judge, Miguel Ángel Torres, of the origins of the cash and were sent to jail without bail on the grounds that there was a danger of their destroying
evidence if they were released. The Mayor spent two months in prison before being released on bail of 250,000 euros.The prosecution is calling for Tirado to be sentenced to two years in prison; a fi ne of 3 million euros, and disqualifi cation from holding public offi ce for seven years.

A ceremony was held on Thursday, 30th July to lay the fi rst stone of the Manilva Wine Centre, which is being built next to the fi re station in Manilva.The centre, which will provide a focus for grape growing and wine production in the area, is being funded under the Costa del Sol’s Plan Qualifi ca which aims to improve the region’s tourism and cultural infrastruction, and which is providing 700,000 euros for the project.The Junta de Andalucia’s Minister for Tourism, Luciano Alonson, who offi ciated at the ceremony, explained the importance of diversifi cation in the tourism infrastructure in attracting visitors

dressage, garrocha - dressage with lance, and carrera de cintas - where riders must grab a ribbon from a line strung across the track.The event starts in the evening at 7.30 pm with a horse parade from La Noria to the Colonia and back again, followed by the horse displays, gymkhana and races in the La Noria area of Sabinillas beach.

La alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, acompañada del concejal de Obras e Infraestructuras, Mario Jiménez, así como de los concejales del Ayuntamiento de Casares, Pedro Gavira y Pepe Carrasco, han mantenido una reunión con los responsables de la empresa que gestiona la cantera situada en la carretera que une Manilva y Casares por la zona de la autopista de peaje.Según ha explicado Muñoz, el objetivo de esta reunión ha sido el de solicitar a la empresa propietaria de esa instalación que ejecute los trabajos necesarios para
mejorar todo el entorno tanto en lo que a seguridad como a imagen se refi ere. Para la alcaldesa de Manilva, quien manifestaba que también es prioridad para el municipio vecino de Casares, el entorno de la cantera debe tener una imagen más adecuada que la que presenta en la actualidad.Antonia Muñoz afi rmó que la empresa responsable de la mencionada instalación se ha comprometida a presentar un proyecto de mejora y adecuación del entorno que ejecutarán una vez cuente con la aprobación municipal de ambas poblaciones.
Improvements to quarry surroundingCouncil representatives from Manilva and Casares have met with the operators of the quarry at Sierra Utrera in order to request that the company carries out necessary environmental works in order to both improve safety and the visual impact of the facility.
Both municipalities share concerns regarding the image presented by the site, and have secured a commitment from the company to present a project to improve the situation which they will execute once approval has been given by the two municipalities.

Exposición de esgrima en el Monumento del Castillo
La Delegación de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Manilva organizó una Exposición Internacional de Esgrima en el Monumento del Castillo el mes pasado. La exposición contó con la participación de el esgrima maestro Alberto Cerrada, que es la persona que ha cedido las más de mil piezas con las que contó la colección.Se trataba de armas antiguas, Ropa, grabados, modelos y otros elementos relacionados con el tema. El castillo fue el escenario perfecto para este tipo de exposición debido a su historia militar, y los visitantes tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender la historia
de la espada a través de gladiadores, soldados, piratas, espadachines y también desde el mundo del cine y el deporte. Los visitantes también tuvieron la oportunidad de empuñar una espada. La exposición fue dramatizada por acción en vivo proporcionada por el grupo de teatro “Felizia” y los estudiantes de la escuela de esgrima “AndaluZía”. Esta exposición tiene por objeto mejorar la imagen del deporte de la esgrima en la zona con vistas a la creación de una escuela municipal de esgrima en el próximo otoño.
Fencing exhibition in Castillo
The Castle in Castillo hosted an International Fencing Exhibition last month.The exhibition was attended by fencing master Alberto Cerrada, who has contributed some 1,000 pieces to the collection.Exhibits included old weapons, clothes, engravings, models, and various other items associated with the subject.The Castle was the perfect setting for such an exhibition given its military history, and visitors had the opportunity to learn the history of the sword through gladiators, soldiers, pirates, and swordsmen both from the world of fi lm and sport. Visitors also had an opportunity to try their hand with the sword.The exhibition was dramatised by live action provided by the drama group “Felizia” and the students of the fencing school “AndaluZia”.
This exhibition aimed to raise the profi le of the sport of fencing in the area with a view to the creation of a municipal school of fencing in Autumn.

La Vendimia de ManilvaManilva celebra su anual Vendimia durante la primera semana de Septiembre.Junto con la Anarquía y la zona de los Montes de Málaga, Manilva es uno de los centros importantes en la producción de la uva Moscatel, dando las famosas “Pasas de Málaga” y el vino seco y dulce de Málaga.Hay viñas en Manilva que datan desde el siglo XVI, pero fue en el siglo XVII y XVIII cuando Manilva se convirtió en el mayor productor de vinos y brandies. En en siglo XIX, las viñas locales, vieron su destrucción con la epidemia Filoxera, la cual se paseó por Europa en 1860.Después de la Guerra Civil Española es cuando Manilva ve aumentado su producción de uvas, haciéndose un centro económico en la actividad de la uva Moscatel, la cual se da muy bien por el clima, situación y tipo de terreno.Cada año, durante la primera
semana de Septiembre, Manilva celebra su anual Fiesta de la Vendimia. Esta fi esta se celebró por primera vez a principio de los años ´60, convirtiéndose así de importante en el calendario local y recibiendo la visita de personas de toda la región.Este año la Feria y Fiesta de la Vendimia cae en el fi n de semana del 5 y 6 de Septiembre.

Manilva Grape FestivalManilva celebrates its annual Vendimia - harvest festival on the fi rst weekend in September.Treading the grapesAlong with the Axarquia and the Montes de Malaga areas, Manilva is an important centre for the production of the Moscatel grape which, when dried on the local hillsides, provides the world famous ‘Pasas de Malaga’, the Malaga raisin, as well as a range of wines from dry to the sweet ‘Malaga’ wine.There have been vineyards in Manilva since the 16th Century but the industry enjoyed its heyday during the 17th and 18th centuries when Manilva was a major producer of wines and brandies.Unfortunately the local vineyards saw a decline during the 19th century which culminated in the destruction of the vines by the Phylloxera epidemic which decimated vineyards throughout Europe in the 1860s.It wasn’t until after the Spanish Civil War that Manilva took up
grape growing as an important economic activity centred on the sweet Moscatel grape which is ideally suited to Manilva’s climate, situation and soil type.Every year, on the fi rst weekend in September, Manilva celebrates its annual grape harvest. This festival was founded in the early ‘60s and has become an important part of the local calendar, drawing in visitors from all across the region.This year the festival falls on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of September.

PSOE e IU fi rman un pacto para dar estabilidad al gobierno de ManilvaLas direcciones provinciales del PSOE e Izquierda Unida han fi rmado hoy una propuesta de acuerdo para garantizar la estabilidad del ayuntamiento del municipio malagueño de Manilva, gobernado en minoría por cinco ediles de la coalición de izquierdas y dos de la Agrupación Socialista de Manilva (ASM). Mediante este acuerdo, ambos grupos municipales se comprometen a apoyar las propuestas presentadas al pleno del Consistorio que hayan sido consensuadas previamente por ambas formaciones, para garantizar así la capacidad del equipo de gobierno, en minoría desde junio tras el abandono de dos concejales de la ASM.Además, han acordado una apuesta por la gestión pública del agua y el alcantarillado del municipio, así como el desarrollo de un plan de saneamiento económico y fi nanciero del Ayuntamiento que permita hacer frente a la crisis.Ambos partidos impulsarán la adaptación del Plan General de Ordenación Urbana (PGOU) de la localidad como instrumento de regulación urbanística del municipio y volverán a poner en marcha la Gerencia de Urbanismo.Este pacto -que no supone la entrada de los socialistas en el gobierno municipal- incluye también el apoyo de Izquierda

PSOE and Izquierda sign agreement in ManilvaThe Provincial executives of the PSOE and Izquierda Unida parties have signed on Friday, 14th August, an agreement guaranteeing the stability of Manilva’s local government, after the coalition comprising the Izquierda Unida and the independent socialist ASM had been put into a minority position with the resignation of two ASM councillors early in June.Through this agreement both parties are committed to supporting proposals submitted to the council meetings that have been agreed beforehand, ensuring the ability of the council to function effi ciently.They have also agreed a way forward on the issue of water and sewage management as well as the development of a strategy to solve the Council’s economic and fi nancial crisis.Both parties will encourage the adoption of the PGOU general planning document as an instrument or regulation and planning in the municipality, and to this end will implement and Urban Management department.By the terms of the agreement, the PSOE will not be taking charge of any of the council departments but the IU will
support the appointment of a PSOE representative on the Association of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities (The Mancomunidad) as a Manilva delegate.This agreement will be monitored by a panel comprising secretaries from the municipal and provincial policy committees of both parties, along with two representatives of each, who will meet on a regular basis to safeguard the terms of the agreement.The Mayoress of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz (IU), has declared that “honesty and sincerity are the foundation of this agreement, putting behind the painful disappointments of the recent past”.For his part the spokesman for Manilva’s PSOE party, Salvador Zotano and said that the proposal is a “a covenant of responsibility between two political forces that will solve the problems that are holding back the municipality”.The document has been signed by both the local and provincial coordinator of the Izquierda Unida, José Antonio Castro, and the secretary general of the PSOE of Málaga, Miguel Ángel Heredia.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, informa que los días 13 (con la recepción a los participantes), 14, 15, 16 y 17 de agosto tendrá lugar la tercera edición de la Ruta de los Fruteros Estepona-M’Diq-Ceuta, cuya presentación del programa completo está prevista para el martes 11, a las 13:00 horas, en el Real Club Náutico de Estepona. Si las condiciones de viento y mar lo permiten, el evento consistirá en la travesía de barcos a motor y vela del RCNE, navegando en conserva, y efectuando las singladuras Estepona-M’Diq-Ceuta-Estepona, e incluye, entre otras actividades, visitas turísticas a Tetuán, Chaouen y Ceuta.Con esta singladura, para la que está abierto el plazo de inscripción de embarcaciones, se pretende emular las gestas de aquellos intrépidos marinos que, durante el siglo XVIII, estrecharon lazos

El Servicio de Vigilancia de Playas atiende más de 1300 incidencias en el mes de julioLa delegación municipal de Seguridad Ciudadana, informa que la Agrupación de Voluntarios de Protección Civil, encargada de la campaña estival de vigilancia de playas, ha atendido más de 1.300 incidencias durante el pasado mes de julio en las playas El Cristo, La Rada y El Padrón, las tres galardonadas con la Bandera Azul.Dicha campaña continuará hasta el 13 de septiembre y en la misma participan 47 voluntarios de Protección Civil, entre los que se encuentran dos DUE/ATS,
23 vigilantes, 18 socorristas acuáticos, un conductor, un patrón de embarcación, un coordinador de campaña y un supervisor.Las incidencias más numerosas son las que hacen referencia al incumplimiento del Bando Municipal en materia de perros, cañas de pescar, alteración del orden público, juegos de pelota, barcos en zona bañista y otros, con casi 500 incidencias. Le siguen picaduras varias, con 247, 88 ayudas a discapacitados, 68 intervenciones por púas de erizos, por golpes y cortes
Estepona’ s lifeguards deal with some 1,300 incidents in JulyEstepona’s civil protection volunteer group, who are responsible for the lifeguard services on the town’s Blue Flag beaches at El Cristo, La Rada and El Padron, have reported a busy month in July with some 1,300 incidents dealt with by their staff.
Of these incidents, many were cases of failure to abide by local by-laws concerning dogs on the beach, fishing rods, public order, ball games, boats in designated swimming areas, in all some 500 incidents. There were 247 cases of bites or stings, 88 disabled requiring

Comienza en Cancelada la construcción de un edifi cio para ofi cinas de equipamiento social
El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que la próxima semana darán inicio las obras de construcción de un edifi cio destinado a uso de ofi cinas de equipamiento social en el núcleo urbano de Cancelada.Dicho proyecto ha sido adjudicado a la empresa Tau Icesa, por procedimiento abierto y tramitación urgente, y tiene como objetivo facilitar los servicios públicos a los ciudadanos de la zona del extrarradio, evitando así el desplazamiento hasta el centro de Estepona. Al tratarse de un edifi cio de uso equipamiento social, en él podrían ubicarse ofi cinas de Correos, Seguridad Ciudadana (Subjefatura de la Policía Local), Gestión de aguas, etc... las cuales no existen en la zona oriental del municipio.Las obras tienen un presupuesto de 328.219,58 €, con cargo al Fondo Estatal de Inversión Local, y para las mismas, la empresa adjudicataria se compromete a contratar a 12 trabajadores sin percibo de prestaciones por desempleo. El plazo de ejecución del proyecto es de ocho meses desde la fi rma del acta de comprobación del replanteo, prevista para el próximo lunes.
Work begins on council offi ces in CanceladaWorks have begun on a new building which will house various council departments in the Cancelada area. Anglo WinesWINE TASTINGWine tasting is the sensory examination and evaluation of wine to describe the range of perceived fl avors, aromas and general characteristics of a wine. The fi ve basic steps in tasting wine are color, swirl, smell, taste, and savour; this is also known as the fi ve Ss: See, Swirl, Sniff, Sip, Savor. During this process, a taster must look for clarity, varietal character, integration, expressiveness, complexity, and connectedness. A wine’s overall quality assessment, based on this examination, follows further careful description and comparison with recognized standards, both with respect to other wines in its price range and according to known factors pertaining to the region or vintage; if it is typical of the region or diverges in style; if it uses certain wine-making techniques, such as barrel fermentation or malomatic fermentation, or any other remarkable or unusual characteristics. Spitting into a spittoon (known as expectoration) at a wine tasting is common because as an alcoholic drink wine can affect the consumer’s judgment and as such formal wine tasters generally spit the wine out after they have assessed its quality. However, since wine is absorbed through the skin inside the mouth, tasting from twenty to twenty-fi ve samplings can produce an intoxicating effect, depending on the alcoholic content of the wine. Alternatively, in order to promote an unbiased analysis, bottles and even glasses may be disguised in a “blind” tasting, to rule out any prejudicial awareness of either vintage or winery.The world of wine has numerous myths and exaggerations that are only now being disproven scientifi cally, yet they still continue to infl uence perceptions and expectancies. My advice is to try these wine tasting procedures for yourselves, it will help you in appreciating wine even more as well as assist in remembering which wines you enjoyed best.

Gracias a ella, se podrán contemplar unas sesenta fotografías, realizadas a partir de los negativos originales procedentes de las mejores colecciones que han recopilado la producción fotográfi ca de algunas de las fi rmas dedicadas a la edición de tarjetas postales de la Andalucía de principios del s. XX.
Organised by the La Caixa Social Works project, under the supervision of Christina Zelich, the exhibition was put together in 2005 in the San Fernando Museum of History later touring the major venues of Andalucia.
The exhibition features 60 photographs reproduced from the original negatives and portrays a series of picture postcards of life in Andalucia in the early years of the 20th C.

El veterano Richard Lynch, uno de los actores de carácter de mayor trayectoria en el género fantástico y de terror, ha confi rmado su asistencia a la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico y de Terror para recoger el codiciado Unicornio de Oro honorífi co.El inolvidable villano de películas como Cromwell, Rey de los bárbaros, Invasión USA o Visiones, 13 años después recogerá durante la Ceremonia de Inauguración del festival este emblemático galardón reservado a fi guras de consolidado prestigio dentro del género fantástico.Lynch, además de ser indiscutible
protagonista de la apertura de este evento, tendrá la oportunidad de co-presentar junto a sus autores dos de las películas que compiten este año en la Sección Ofi cial a concurso que cuentan con la solvente presencia del actor: The Rain, de Douglas Schulze (donde comparte protagonismo con el desaparecido David Carradine) y Laid to rest, un excelente slasher dirigido por Robert Hall.El debut fílmico de Lynch tuvo lugar en 1973, en el clásico El Espantapájaros, ganadora del Grand Prix en el festival de Cannes. Su interpretación en el fi lme dio un impulso a su carrera
que le llevó hasta Hollywood, donde ha trabajado en cine y televisión durante más veinte años. Entre sus películas más destacadas hay que citar Los implacables: Patrulla Especial, Espías sin identidad, Crimen y castigo o The Ninth Confi guration. The veteran actor Richard Lynch will attend this year’s Estepona Horror Film Festival, where he will be presented with the Unicornio de Oro (Golden Unicorn).This unforgettable villain of such fi lms as Sword and the Sorcerer, Invasion USA, amongst many others, will be the star of this year’s opening ceremony and will also co-present at the screenings of two fi lms in the offi cial section of the competition: “The Rain”, in which he starred alongside the late David Carradine and “Laid to Rest” the excellent slasher movie directed by Robert Hall.Lynch made his fi lm debut in 1973 in the Cannes Film Festival winner “The Scarecrow”, where his performance brought him to
the attention of Hollywood where he has worked in fi lm and TV ever since. In recent years he has become one of the stalwarts of the horror and fantasy genre working on such classicas as “Mil Mascaras vs The Aztec Mummy” and Rob Zombie’s celebrated 2007 remake of “Halloween” along with the satirical “Chrome Angels”.
This year’s Estepona Fantasy and Horror Film Festival which will be held from Monday, 7th to Saturday, 12th September.Celebrating its tenth year this prestigious festival brings together the top names in this genre of the fi lm industry to show off their latest works, some of which have their international premieres at the festival. Katy Setterfi eld winner of BBC1’s competition ‘The One & Only’ will be performing a charity concert at Manilva’s famous Roman Oasis restaurant.Originally Katy was to have performed at Cortijo La Vizcaronda, but due to circumstances beyond her control, she has had to reschedule and the event will take place on Monday, 31st August at the Roman Oasis on Manilva’s Rio Manilva Road.She will perform at a Gala evening where much needed money will be raised for the Animal in Need charity in La Linea. Animal in Need currently have in excess of 400 dogs and more dogs are arriving all the time. New facilities are desperately needed and money raised during the evening will go to this very worthy cause. No es del todo razonable esperar que las fuerzas de orden público españolas deban entender una póliza escrita en inglés.¿ Están las operadoras de telefonia ofreciendo un mejor servicio?Telefónica. Por supuesto la operadora de telefonía que la mayoría de los usuarios utilizan pues hasta ahora tienen el monopolio de todas las redes de comunicación telefónicas en España. Debido a la dura competencia que tienen, ciertamente hacen que se negocie con ellos fácilmente, al menos desde nuestra ofi cina, al poner toda clase de facilidades. Por otra parte y en honor de la verdad, han sido económicos por así decirlo en sus últimas ofertas. La mencionada operadora ha lanzado últimamente varias campañas muy atractivas para clientes sean o no de Telefónica. La sorpresa se tiene cuando se recibe la primera factura para nuevos usuarios y más adelante cuando incrementan sus cargos. De nuevo les decimos que desde nuestra ofi cina podemos
reclamar en la mayoría de los casos a la mencionada operadora.Los excesivos costes de transferir su propiedad de una sociedad a su nombre.En este tema hemos sabido de excesivas sumas de dinero que se han tenido que pagar por este servicio y encima tomándoles el pelo, errores hechos en el asesoramiento cuyos resultados han derivado en pagar de más a la Hacienda Pública. En algunos casos los propietarios han tenido que pagar un 7% de impuestos sobre el valor de la propiedad en vez del 1% estipulado por Hacienda, si se sabe cómo hacerlo correctamente. Estos errores tan caros son evitables. Algunos propietarios han tenido que esperar durante años para completar la nueva titularidad de sus propiedades. Back in October 2008, I wrote an article called “Timing the Markets” At the time we were experiencing one of the most dramatic bear markets since the 1930’s. The article, primarily aimed at regular monthly savers i.e monthly pension and savings plans, outlined the advantages of investing whilst the markets effectively were running at a discount. The article also outlined the effect of Pound Cost Averaging (PCA) on regular savings plans. PCA means that when prices are low your contribution buys more shares or fund units, this results in more units for your money and potentially much higher returns. When prices are high your monthly contribution may buy fewer shares or fund units.
The Markets To DateSince that article we have seen the FTSE 100 rise by 16% and the Dow Jones increase by just over 9%. With sensible planning and regular reviews of your investment these gains can be locked in thus minimizing your investment from any nasty pitfalls that may be round the corner. At the time I was criticized by some so called experts, believing that it was far too early to be dipping ones toe back into stocks & shares, but personally for me it was a no brainer, certainly as far as regular savers were concerned because of the effect of PCA.

The warm weather brings an increase in skin problems. As it is in direct contact with the environment and disease causing agents, the skin may suffer various types of diseases. Skin disease or dermatitis, may be refl ected in reddening, small pustules (acne), hair loss and may or may not be painful. These signs may be located in one circumspect area or may affect the entire body, scratching, itching, and/or biting may aggravate the problem. Dermatitis may be due to many diverse causes such as: allergies, bacteria, fungi, parasites, burns, hormonal or nervous or psychological problems or other less common causes. In our animals allergies or parasites are the most guilty parties. When the condition becomes advanced a problem localised in one area may spread and be further complicated by a secondary infection, which in some cases may become chronic. A veterinarian ought to be consulted before a small problem gets out of hand. Allergic Dermatitis is characterised by itching and redness, the animal licks, bites, or scratches itself excessively ( as in other types of dermatitis ), initiating a vicious cycle of itching and scratching/biting. Treatment, as in most skin problems, is twofold: fi rst is to break the itch-scratch cycle and second is to get at the primary cause of the problem. Many times allergic problems are tedious to sort out, pollen based allergies being some of the most diffi cult to resolve, followed closely by food based allergies. In breeding has caused the existance of some dogs to be allergic to some if not all types of meat protien.
The Long Hot Days of SummerThis is pretty odd considering that dogs are carnivores or meat eaters! The majority of these cases are cured by changing them to types of meat that they are not allergic to or in those more extreme cases they have to be put on a soy based protien diet, effectively becoming vegetarians. This is different to those cases where some of the owners of some dogs and cats may themselves e vegetarins and wish their animals to prescribe to the same dietary habits, they should take care as dogs and cats by the basis of their digestive tracts are meat eaters.Fungal infections are common, more so in cats, and some times they may be contagious to other members of the family, they are relatively easy to identify and cure. Mange is caused by mycroscopic “bugs”, the most common of these found affecting our pets are not generally contagious between species. Mange when diagnosed early is also easy to control although it may require 2-3 months of treatment depending upon how advanced a specifi c case may be! Over-bathing often reduces the skins natural defences and as a result may open the door to disease causing agents.Many of the treatments for these problems may include medicated baths, one should never use human shampoos on animals as their skin pH (acidity level ) is quite different to ours!

Estadio-Ciudad de EsteponaEl Ayuntamiento de Estepona, informa que el próximo sábado 22 se celebrará uno de los eventos deportivos de mayor antigüedad de la ciudad, el XIX Trofeo de Fútbol Sala “Centro Deportivo y Cultural Estadio - Ciudad de Estepona”, desde las 19:00 horas, en el pabellón cubierto La Lobilla.Al igual que el año pasado, el Club Deportivo Cultural Estadio ha organizado un triangular tres en uno que contará con el recién ascendido a la categoría de Nacional B, U.D. Coineña que
entre sus atractivos cuenta con el fi chaje estrella de la categoría, Rafael Becerra “Fali”, jugador internacional que la pasada temporada jugó en el Benicarló F.S. de División de Honor y que entre otros, ha pasado por clubes de la solera de Playas de Castellón o Caja Segovia. El jugador regresa a su localidad natal para seguir jugando, y volverá a participar en el torneo del C.D.C. Estadio por enésima vez. Por otra parte, otro de los participantes será el conjunto gaditano Vejer F.S. de la Provincial Gaditana, que
cuenta en su plantel con varios de los jugadores que se proclamaron campeones en la última edición de las 24 Horas de Estepona. El triangular lo cerrará una selección del C.D.C. Estadio conformada por jugadores de la etapa del club en Provincial y Nacional B (años 05/07) cuya gran mayoría continuó en la categoría después de ceder la plaza a otra entidad. El torneo está organizado por el Club Deportivo y Cultural Estadio, en colaboración con la delegación de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Estepona.

EstadioNext Saturday, 22nd August, Estepona will be holding one of its longest running sports events when it celebrates the indoor football tournament the XIX Trofeo de Fútbol Sala “Centro Deportivo y Cultural Estadio - Ciudad de Estepona” from 7 pm at the La Lobilla Sports Centre.As in previous years the Club Deportivo Cultural Estadio have organised a triangular competition featuring three
clubs, one of which is UD Coineña who, newly promoted to the National B category, include among its attractions the star international Rafael Becerra “Fali” , who has played for some of the finest clubs including Benicarló FS, Playas de Castellon, and Caja Segovia. Fali will be returning to his home town to take part in the competition yet again.Also competing are Vejer FS from Cadiz who feature among

U Estepona CF sigue sus preparativos previos a la temporada con dos partidos amistosos contra el Puerto Real y Alhauriño seguido por el primer partido de la Copa del Rey contra el Real Jaén antes de su primer partido de liga el 30 de agosto, contra el Granada CF en Granada. El Estepona ha tenido mucho éxito en sus amistosos hasta ahora ganando Imperio, Antequera y Algeciras, y solo han perdido contra La Linea. La experiencia ha sido una parte vital del equipo en el proceso de consolidación de la gestión y están contentos con la cara del progreso. El equipo tecnico han estado ocupado con las fi chajes durante los últimos meses, los cuales son Javi Muñoz, que se une desde el CD Baza; Gonzalo Arantegui Peñafi el “Lalo”, un interior derecho procedente de Águilas Club de Fútbol, Jesús David Abrante Lorenzo “Memo” delantero de Orihuela Club de Fútbol, y el defensor Fernando Parejo “Pajarero” desde el CD Alhaurino. Presidente Eugenio Muñoz ha hecho un llamamiento a los afi cionados a apoyar
el equipo y comprar sus carnets para está temporada tan pronto como puedan. Queremos empezar la temporada con al menos 2000 socios.Esta temporada habrá abonos para varias zonas del estadio Francisco Muñoz Pérez. Por un lado en tribuna cubierta tendrán un precio de 150 euros para general, 90 para jubilados y señoras y para jóvenes de 12 a 18 años será 70 euros. En Preferencia los precios irán desde los 120 para general, 70 especial y 50 para jóvenes y por último en fondo será 100 euros para general, 50 especial y 30 jóvenes. Eugenio Muñoz ha destacado que “hemos intentado poner precios para todos los bolsillos, porque queremos que todos los afi cionados puedan ir al fútbol”. Además las personas desempleadas y las familias tendrán un diez por ciento de descuento en cada carnet. El club ha abierto una ofi cina en la calle Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente (Conjunto Andalucia), donde los afi cionados pueden renovar o adquirir el carnet.
